Abstract

Purpose: This study aims to explore the conceptual understanding profiles of seventh-grade students in social arithmetic across varying mathematical ability levels to mitigate cognitive obstacles in numeracy literacy. Design/methodology/approach: An exploratory qualitative design with triangulation techniques was employed. Three subjects (high, middle, and low ability) were selected via purposive sampling. Instruments included problem-solving tests and clinical interviews based on NCTM indicators. Findings: High-ability students demonstrated coherent relational understanding. Middle-ability students exhibited sound verbal logic but suffered from dissociation in written symbolic representation. Low-ability students remained constrained by procedural fragmentation and contextual interpretation failures. Practical implications: Educators should implement professional noticing to bridge the transition from verbal to formal representation using guided discovery methods. Originality/value: This study provides a unique contribution by mapping specific cognitive gaps between oral articulation and written formalisation within social arithmetic.   Purpose: Penelitian ini bertujuan mengeksplorasi profil pemahaman konsep siswa kelas VII pada materi aritmetika sosial berdasarkan tingkat kemampuan matematis untuk memitigasi hambatan kognitif dalam literasi numerasi. Design/methodology/approach: Menggunakan desain kualitatif eksploratif dengan teknik triangulasi. Subjek terdiri dari tiga siswa (kemampuan tinggi, menengah, dan rendah) yang dipilih melalui purposive sampling. Instrumen meliputi tes pemecahan masalah dan wawancara klinis berdasarkan indikator NCTM. Findings: Siswa berkemampuan tinggi menunjukkan pemahaman relasional yang koheren. Siswa menengah memiliki logika verbal yang baik namun mengalami disosiasi pada representasi simbolik tertulis. Siswa berkemampuan rendah terjebak pada fragmentasi prosedural dan kegagalan interpretasi kontekstual. Practical implications: Guru harus menerapkan professional noticing untuk menjembatani transisi representasi verbal ke formal melalui metode guided discovery.Originality/value: Studi ini memberikan kontribusi unik melalui pemetaan gap kognitif spesifik antara kemampuan artikulasi lisan dan formalisasi tertulis dalam materi aritmetika sosial.

Abstract

Abstrak: Kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematis pada materi segitiga sangat penting dalam mengembangkan keterampilan berpikir kritis dan analitis siswa SMP. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematis siswa SMP pada materi segitiga berdasarkan teori pemecahan masalah Polya. Pendekatan yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah kualitatif dengan desain studi kasus, di mana data dikumpulkan melalui tes pemecahan masalah dan wawancara mendalam dengan siswa. Data dianalisis menggunakan langkah-langkah dalam teori pemecahan masalah Polya, yang meliputi pemahaman masalah, perencanaan penyelesaian, pelaksanaan, dan pengecekan hasil. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa sebagian besar siswa mengalami kesulitan dalam tahap perencanaan dan pengecekan hasil, meskipun mereka mampu memahami masalah dan melakukan langkah-langkah awal pemecahan. Beberapa siswa menunjukkan pemahaman yang baik terhadap konsep segitiga namun kesulitan dalam menghubungkan konsep-konsep tersebut dengan cara yang sistematis untuk menyelesaikan masalah. Penelitian ini memberikan wawasan mengenai pentingnya pengajaran yang mengarah pada pengembangan strategi pemecahan masalah yang lebih terstruktur dan mendalam, serta memberikan kontribusi terhadap pembelajaran matematika yang lebih efektif melalui penerapan teori Polya dalam pembelajaran segitiga di SMP.

Abstract

Abstract: The Problem-Based Learning (PBL) method has garnered significant attention as an approach to enhance students’ critical thinking and problem-solving skills, particularly in mathematics education. This research explores the impact of PBL on mathematical connection and problem-solving abilities, aiming to provide a deeper understanding of how this teaching method can foster student engagement and improve learning outcomes. The study employs a qualitative research design, utilizing case studies and observations to gather data from a sample of high school students engaged in a PBL-based mathematics curriculum. Data were analyzed using thematic analysis, identifying key themes related to students' mathematical connections and problem-solving strategies. The results suggest that PBL not only strengthens students' ability to connect mathematical concepts but also enhances their approach to solving complex mathematical problems. The research contributes to the growing body of literature on PBL by highlighting its effectiveness in promoting both conceptual understanding and practical problem-solving skills. This study offers valuable insights for educators seeking to implement PBL in mathematics classrooms, emphasizing its potential to improve student engagement, motivation, and achievement in mathematical learning.

Abstract

Purpose: This study aims to describe the investigation process of plane geometry and evaluate the effectiveness of GeoGebra in enhancing critical thinking skills and overcoming cognitive barriers in minimum triangle perimeter problems. Design/methodology/approach: A qualitative descriptive approach was employed involving 26 undergraduate mathematics education students at the University of Bengkulu. Data were gathered through investigative performance tasks (paper-pencil and GeoGebra-based) and an 18-item response questionnaire covering cognitive, psychomotor, and affective domains. Findings: GeoGebra significantly reduced problem-solving time from 120 minutes (via inaccurate manual methods) to 30 minutes with precise logical argumentation. Students demonstrated mastery of dynamic construction features, although 60% required guidance in establishing systematic initial strategies. Practical implications: These findings offer operational strategies for educators to integrate dynamic technology as scaffolding to mitigate mathematics anxiety and foster student learning autonomy. Originality/value: This study contributes uniquely by providing a comparative analysis of cognitive efficiency between manual and digital methods in complex geometry investigation tasks within higher education.   Purpose: Penelitian ini bertujuan mendeskripsikan proses investigasi geometri bidang dan mengevaluasi efektivitas penggunaan GeoGebra dalam meningkatkan kemampuan berpikir kritis serta memecahkan hambatan kognitif pada masalah keliling segitiga minimum. Design/methodology/approach: Menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif dengan subjek 26 mahasiswa S1 Pendidikan Matematika Universitas Bengkulu. Data dikumpulkan melalui unjuk kinerja investigasi (metode tulis-tangan dan GeoGebra) serta angket respon 18 item yang mencakup aspek kognitif, psikomotorik, dan afektif. Findings: GeoGebra secara signifikan mereduksi waktu penyelesaian masalah dari 120 menit (metode manual yang tidak akurat) menjadi 30 menit dengan argumentasi logis yang tepat. Mahasiswa menunjukkan penguasaan fitur konstruksi dinamis meski 60% masih memerlukan bimbingan dalam menentukan strategi awal yang sistematis. Practical implications: Hasil ini memberikan strategi operasional bagi pendidik untuk mengintegrasikan teknologi dinamis sebagai perancah (scaffolding) guna menurunkan kecemasan matematika dan meningkatkan kemandirian belajar mahasiswa. Originality/value: Studi ini memberikan kontribusi unik melalui analisis perbandingan efisiensi kognitif antara metode manual dan digital dalam tugas investigasi geometri kompleks pada tingkat pendidikan tinggi.

Abstract

Purpose: This study evaluates the correlation between learning motivation, self-regulation, and the use of Google Meet in enhancing students' mathematical concept understanding of systems of linear equations (SPLDV).Design/methodology/approach: A quantitative correlational design was employed with 32 students at SMPN 4 Tambun Selatan. Data were collected via the Mathematics Attitudes and Perceptions Survey (MAPS), self-regulation inventories, and concept mastery tests, then analyzed using Bayesian estimation and regression.Findings: Findings reveal a significant positive correlation ($r = 0.78$) between motivation and concept mastery. Motivation and self-regulation contribute 61% to learning outcomes, while synchronous interaction via Google Meet effectively mitigates mathematics anxiety and fosters creative thinking.Practical implications: Educators should integrate synchronous feedback and independent study workbooks to optimize spaced retrieval practice, ensuring long-term knowledge retention in digital environments.Originality/value: This research contributes to the literature by synthesizing psychological dispositions with synchronous technology, validating the "expert-like views" model within middle-school online mathematics education.     Purpose: Penelitian ini mengevaluasi korelasi antara motivasi belajar, kemandirian belajar, dan penggunaan Google Meet dalam meningkatkan pemahaman konsep matematis siswa pada materi Sistem Persamaan Linear Dua Variabel (SPLDV). Design/methodology/approach: Desain kuantitatif korelasional digunakan terhadap 32 siswa SMPN 4 Tambun Selatan. Data dikumpulkan melalui Mathematics Attitudes and Perceptions Survey (MAPS), inventori kemandirian, dan tes penguasaan konsep, lalu dianalisis menggunakan estimasi Bayesian dan regresi. Findings: Hasil menunjukkan korelasi positif signifikan (r = 0,78) antara motivasi dan penguasaan konsep. Motivasi dan kemandirian berkontribusi 61% terhadap hasil belajar, sementara interaksi sinkronus via Google Meet efektif memitigasi kecemasan matematis dan mendorong berpikir kreatif. Practical implications: Pengajar harus mengintegrasikan umpan balik sinkronus dan buku kerja mandiri untuk mengoptimalkan spaced retrieval practice, menjamin retensi pengetahuan jangka panjang di lingkungan digital. Originality/value: Penelitian ini berkontribusi pada literatur dengan menyintesis disposisi psikologis dan teknologi sinkronus, memvalidasi model "pandangan menyerupai ahli" dalam pendidikan matematika daring tingkat sekolah menengah.

Abstract

Kemandirian belajar merupakan salah satu faktor penting dalam meningkatkan kualitas pendidikan di sekolah menengah. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk merancang dan membangun sistem pakar yang dapat mendiagnosis tingkat kemandirian belajar siswa, serta memberikan rekomendasi untuk peningkatan kemandirian tersebut. Sistem pakar ini dirancang menggunakan pendekatan berbasis kecerdasan buatan, dengan menganalisis data dari tes, kuesioner, dan observasi perilaku siswa dalam proses pembelajaran. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah pengembangan sistem pakar dengan teknik inferensi berbasis aturan untuk menilai tingkat kemandirian belajar siswa. Sistem ini mengidentifikasi indikator-indikator kemandirian, seperti kemampuan siswa dalam mengatur waktu, mencari informasi secara mandiri, dan menyelesaikan tugas tanpa bantuan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa sistem pakar yang dibangun dapat secara akurat mendiagnosis tingkat kemandirian siswa dan memberikan umpan balik serta rekomendasi yang tepat untuk meningkatkan kemandirian belajar siswa. Penelitian ini memberikan kontribusi terhadap pengembangan teknologi pendidikan, khususnya dalam penggunaan sistem pakar untuk memantau dan meningkatkan kemandirian belajar siswa di sekolah menengah, serta menawarkan pendekatan inovatif yang dapat diterapkan oleh guru untuk mendukung proses belajar siswa secara lebih efektif.

Abstract

This study aims to find out the description of students' difficulties in solving math olympiad questions at SMP Negeri 2 Muaragembong. This research is a descriptive study with a qualitative approach designed to find out the description of students' difficulties in solving Olympic questions. The data analysis techniques used are data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. Based on the results of the study, it was stated that the difficulties in solving Olympic questions consisted of four types of difficulty components, namely conceptual difficulties, principle difficulties, information difficulties and arithmetical difficulties. Internal factors include students' lack of interest in learning mathematics, especially in linear programming material, study routines, and lack of motivation to learn. While external factors include family and school environment. Efforts that can be made to reduce students' difficulties in solving Olympic questions based on the difficulties experienced and the causative factors behind them include: providing a better understanding to students, students actively asking questions, and using learning media
