Abstract

Portfolio assessment has long been advocated as a means for students to reflect on and improve their writing. It allows students and teachers to identify consistent areas of strength and weakness to improve the students’ writing. This paper reports on an action research study in a third semester writing class in the English department of Sam Ratulangi University in Indonesia. The objective is to determine how and to what extent portfolio assessment is useful for improving students’ writing. Each student kept a portfolio of their written work, which was used by the teachers to analyze students’ progress over the course of the semester. Students wrote several paragraphs, with each paragraph going through three drafts and incorporating self- and peer-editing, in addition to being edited by a course instructor. At the end of the semester, the teachers compared the students’ writing from the beginning, middle, and end of the semester. Their writing was analyzed to determine changes in paragraph development, organization, and selected grammatical features. In general, the development and organization of the students’ writing showed significant improvement, while results for grammar were less consistent, depending more on individual factors and error type.

Abstract

Model pembelajaran yang paling sering digunakan dalam proses pembelajaran adalah model konvensional dengan metode ceramah. Model pembelajaran ini menjadikan kegiatan pembelajaran bersifat satu arah dan kurang melibatkan siswa secara aktif, sehingga menyebabkan terhambatnya proses pembelajaran. Keberhasilan proses belajar didukung oleh kemampuan pengajar dalam membangkitkan minat peserta didik dengan melakukan berbagai strategi pembelajaran yang efektif. Salah satu model yang dapat menjadi referensi guru adalah model pembelajaran kooperatif. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan hasil belajar siswa pada mata pelajaran teknologi pasca panen pada standar kompetensi menentukan teknik penanganan pasca panen tanaman sayur-sayuran dengan menggunakan pembelajaran kooperatif tipe make a match. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah quasi eksperiment dengan sampel penelitian yaitu siswa kelas XI ATPH SMK PPN Tanjungsari sebanyak 61 orang siswa dan menggunakan desain nonequivalent control group. Peneliti membandingkan kemampuan kognitif siswa dengan pre-test dan post-test pada dua kelas dengan perlakuan yang berbeda. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan, penggunaan model pembelajaran kooperatif tipe make a match dapat meningkatkan hasil belajar siswa yang lebih tinggi dibandingkan pembelajaran konvensional.

Abstract

The study aims to analyze the role of model-eliciting activities on students’ mathematical reasoning ability and self regulated learning. This study was conducted using a pretest-post test experiment control group design. The study involved 72 eighth grade students. Instruments used were mathematical reasoning ability test, and a mathematical self regulated learning questionnaire. The study found that students who got treatment on model-eliciting activities had better grades on mathematical reasoning ability and self regulated learning than that of students taught by conventional teaching, though the students’ mathematical reasoning ability grades were at medium level and the grades of self regulated learning were at fairly good level. Students expressed positive response on Mathematics Model-eliciting Activities, even though student still realized difficulties in solving mathematical reasoning task. So we conclude that students reasoning abilities and their self-regulated learning tend to increase through model-eliciting activities

Abstract

Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk menguji pengaruh penggunaan media dalam permainan bola voli terhadap keberanian dan hasil belajar passing bawah pada siswa tunarungu di Sekolah Luar Biasa di kota Cimahi. Metode yang digunakan adalah eksperimen. Penelitian ini melibatkan 12 siswa terdiri dari 6 siswa kelompok eksperimen dan 6 siswa kelompok kontrol. Untuk mengukur keberanian siswa digunakan lembar observasi keberanian sedangkan untuk mengukur hasil belajar digunakan test keterampilan passing bawah bola voli. Data analisis diuji menggunakan uji paired test atau uji t. Selanjutnya, dilakukan uji independent sample test untuk melihat perbedaan antara penggunaan media dengan tanpa penggunaan media. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa terdapat perbedaan pengaruh penggunaan media pembelajaran parasut terhadap keberanian dalam melakukan passing bawah bola voli. Terdapat pengaruh pengunaan media pembelajaran parasut terhadap hasil belajar passing bawah bola voli. Penggunaan media pembelajaran parasut lebih baik daripada tanpa menggunakan media parasut terhadap keberanian siswa dalam passing bawah bola voli. Penggunaan media pembelajaran parasut lebih baik daripada tanpa menggunakan media pembelajaran parasut terhadap hasil belajar passing bawah bola voli. Temuan ini menunjukkan bahwa media pembelajaran parasut dalam permainan bola voli terbukti efektif mempengaruhi keberanian dan hasil belajar siswa tunarungu.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to describe the characteristic of high-performing and low-performing students based on the morphological awareness test. This research is about the morphological awareness of 5-6-year-old kindergarten students in Bandung. The method used is the descriptive quantitative method, using questionnaires and interview as the data collection instruments. The instruments were given to the parents of 12 kindergarten children who showed high-performance and low-performance. The results showed that the characteristics of high-performing students is that they were from higher SES families (better education, job, and income), and they use Bahasa Indonesia dominantly.
