Abstract

There are the variability of peat swamp forest, one of there domination is Gonystylus bancanus (Miq.) Kurz). Ramin is as one type of constituent of the forest, Ambawang kecil. Currently, its existence endangered due to illegal logging. This research aimed to obtain information about ramin at each level of growth(The number of individuals in the form of availability, level of dominance, and the density of ramin at each level of growth). That information may be the initially to determine the appropiate of silviculture treatment.  This research used  the line terraced method, with a width of 20 m, the length of each line 200 m as much as 8 lines, the line spacing of 100 m, and the direction of the scratch line 109 ⁰ 18 ' 55.99 ' ' E. Determination of the initial purposive sampling done on line, based on the consideration of the information field that that location pretty much there is vegetation ramin, the characteristics of the soil with peat moss in marshy waterlogged conditions.  The results of recearch showed that ramin is dominant in seedlings and saplings of growth level (INP=44,65%, 82,96% respectively). Syzygium sp is dominant in poles of growth level (INP=73,60%) and koompassia malacensis is dominant in tree of growth level (=53,78%). Viewed from its density, ramin have  fewer number of individuals seedling of growth level (2500/btg/ha) more density mainly for tre of growth level (0,31 btg/ha). Abstract

In addition, water is non biological factor from the forest that has an important role, especially for people who lived in that area. The availability of the water in one area have to be describe to explore that the potential and availability of the water in the area. For Melancar river, there’s no research about the availability of the river water. This research aims to study water debit of Melancar river in protected area of Gunung Loncek in Kecamatan Anjongan Kabupaten Pontianak in rainy and dry. It also explain the condition of vegetation in Gunung Loncek. The results show that water debit of Melancar river in dry days was 0,0278 m3/s and the debit in rainy days was 0,0392 m3/s. The function of the forest in Gunung Loncek area is important to manage water availability, it is shown by the difference of the Melancar river’s debit value between rainy and dry days is not too far evently it is significantly different. The availability of the Melancar river’s water is still good enough and it still can supply  people who lived in Melancar river area for their daily used. Abstract

This research aims to utilize the low quality of wood i.e.sengon (Paraserianthes falcataria) and waste of  Coconut fiber dust to made particle board. Particle board made with different ratio i.e 100%  sengon, 80%  sengon and 20% Ccocnut fiber with adhesive concentration of 12%, 14% and 16%. Particle board made with size 30 cm x 30 cm x 1 cm with a density of 0,6 g/cm3 at a pressure of 25 kg/cm2 at  1400C for 8 minutes. Evaluated the physical properties (density, water content, water absorption and thickness swelling) and mechanical properties modulus of elastis (MOE), modulus of rupture (MOR) and internal bonding (IB) was conducted in accordance with JIS A 5908-2003 standard. The results showed that the density value sranged between 0.53g/cm3 - 0.58g/cm3, water contentranged from 6.63%-8.27%, thickness swelling ranged between7.51% -11.75%,water absorption ranged between 53.75% - 64.62%, MOE ranged between 14654.54 kg/cm2 - 18031.95 kg/cm2, MOR ranged between 169.54kg/cm2 - 218.47 kg/cm2, internal bonding ranged from3.33 kg/cm2-4.93 kg/cm2. The particle board values can fulfill the standart of JIS A 5908-2003, except for the value of the MOE. Composition of raw materials significantly affect the water absorption value, MOE and MOR mean while the concentration of adhesive significantly affect the value of thickness swelling, water absorption, MOE and MOR. Interaction between the ratio of raw material and concentration of adhesive did not significantly affect the physical and mechanical properties of particle board. The best values of particle board was achieved with composition sengon 80% and 20% coconut fiber dust withan adhesive concentration 16%.
