Abstract

The objective of this study is to demonstrate how the concepts of monoculturalism are evident in the Nussa children's web series animations. Employing a qualitative approach, the research employed qualitative content analysis by examining five specific episodes from the Nussa Official YouTube channel. The qualitative content analysis employed a semiotic approach to dissect both explicit and implicit meanings. The basis for the content of monoculturalism is drawn from the concepts outlined in "Golden Truth" found in the publication "The Danger of Monoculturalism in the XXI Century" and Indonesia's Broadcasting Law no. 32/2002, encompassing two articles: Article (2) and Article (36). These concepts encompass four key points: (1) The prevalence of a monotonous society; (2) Inadequate portrayal of tolerance; (3) Insufficient diversity; and (4) A lack of communicative interaction and representation through cultural symbols. The findings of this investigation reveal that the animated content of Nussa does not adequately showcase societal and cultural variety in each episode. The Nussa production team also fails to incorporate dialogues and symbols that reflect the rich cultural diversity within Indonesia. In summary, it can be deduced that the content of Nussa's animated web series should incorporate increased diversity in forthcoming episodes.

Abstract

The IDF raid on As-Syifa hospital is a serious matter because it is related to international humanitarian rules regarding civilian objects. Emad Hajjaj in his Instagram account criticizes this behavior with a caricature. This study aims to (1) reveal the representation of social criticism in Emad Hajjaj's caricatures on Instagram and (2) reveal the factors behind the making of caricatures. Primary data sources come from two caricatures in Emad Hajjaj's Instagram account, while secondary data come from books, journals, news, and articles relevant to this study. This type of research is qualitative research using the semiotic approach of Roman Jakobson's perspective. The data collection techniques used are screenshots, reading, and notes. The data analysis technique uses the Miles and Huberman technique which consists of data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The result of this study is that researchers succeeded in revealing the forms of political criticism contained in two caricatures uploaded by @hajjaj_cartoons with six elements in the form of sender, context, contact, code, message and recipient. Meanwhile, the background of the criticism is a response to the IDF's actions.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the dynamics of public opinion in X around the Data Protection Law (UU PDP) that emerged before and after its ratification. Previous research on the UU PDP has only focused on normative juridical aspects but not on public opinion aspects. In fact, research on public opinion is important because public opinion has the power to advocate. This study analyzed 3,374 tweets about the UU PDP published from January 24, 2020, to October 17, 2023. Researchers obtained the data using the scraping method using the Python twscrape library based on the search keywords “Undang-Undang Pelindungan Data Pribadi", “UU PDP", and "RUU PDP". This study adopts the sentiment analysis model of the Indonesian RoBERTa Base Sentiment Classifier and found that neutral-tone tweets dominated conversations that arose before and after the president's passing of the PDP law. A qualitative analysis of the word cloud shows that neutral-tone tweets are facts related to the UU PDP. Negative opinion dominated public opinion against the UU PDP in both conversation periods. The dynamics of public opinion towards the UU PDP reflect the digital movement of opinion (DMO). This is because the number of opinion tweets is volatile and always depends on the intensity of the facts and important momentum related to the UU PDP.Key words: sentiment analysis, public opinion, Data Protection Law, UU PDP, X

Abstract

Shared identity has played a major role in the formation of fandom in the digital age, where online interaction became the dominating mode of social interaction among individuals. The Furry fandom's online ingroup interactions are examined through the evolving process of identity and trust development, highlighting the role of virtual platforms in fostering community cohesion. This paper reviews previous literature about Furry fandom from four aspects of Social Exchange Theory (SET), namely trust, commitment, reciprocity, and power. The narrative review method is employed to explore how these aspects contribute to the resilience of shared identity and trusts within the Furry fandom. The review conducted on six scholarly articles surrounding the theme of Furry ingroup interaction underlined a common belief in how individuals who identify as Furry share a common sense of identity, which fosters a sense of trust and camaraderie within the community. This shared identity serves as a foundation for a sustainable ingroup trust and contributes to the overall cohesion of the furry fandom. This paper suggests that future research could adopt a more in-depth analysis on the importance of trust and its sustainment within ingroup interaction in the scope of the digital age.
