Abstract

Accumulation of heavy metal Pb into the tissue can proceed through a food chain or environmental exposure. This study was to determine the content of heavy metals Pb in water, sediments and mussels (perna viridis). This research was conducted in March 2016, in the waters of Lekok Pasuruan at the three stations. TPI Station 1, Station 2 at the mouth of the Rejoso river and station 3 nearby PLTU 3. The water, sediments and green mussels (Perna viridis) samples were collected for Pb analysis using Absorpotion Atomic Spectrophotometer (AAS). In addition to the water quality such as salinity, temperature, DO and pH was observed. The results showed the highest Pb content in the water (0.4444 mg/l), sediment (23.8284 mg/kg) and green mussel tissue (1.5098 mg/kg) were found at station 2 (Rejoso river mouth). The Pb content in green mussel seemed to above safety level to consume.

Abstract

Pokea clam Batissa violacea var. celebensis von Martens 1897 that inhabits the substrates of some estuaries in Southeast Sulawesi has a tendency to have different reproductive pattern. The aim of this study was to determine the sex ratio, gonadal maturity stage (TKG), gonadal maturity index (IKG) and the size at first gonad maturity of pokea in Lasolo estuary, Southeast Sulawesi.  Samples were randomly collected using a traditional fishing gear called tangge.  Sex ratio, TKG, IKG, and the size at first gonad maturity were determined using standard methods and formulas and then analyzed using Chi Square, quantitative description and non-linear regression. The results showed that the number of males were higher than the numbers of females, ranging from 71.85-89.84% and 10.16-28.15%, respectively.  Gonadal maturity development of male and female occured simultaneously. Early gonadal maturity stage began in January.  Spawning occurs twice, beginning with maturity in April and spawning in May and then again maturity in July and spawning in July until October.  IKG values of male and female were relatively the same ranging from 2.56-31.92. The males matured earlier than the females at size 1.95 cm and 2.15 cm, respectively.   Keywords: female, gonad, male, clam, maturity, spawning

Abstract

The fishing vessel is the main vehicle of the fishermen to go to fishing ground and hauling purse seine especially fishing gear. Pinrang Regency ships traditionally built without calculation of naval architecture. Where the purse seine fishing gear in Pinrang Regency has length 330 m nets with a depth of 36 m. The purpose of this research was to examine the main dimension ratio in particular design and static stability of the vessel purse seine in Pinrang Regency. Method of using a case study on two types of vessels have different relative and analyzed by numerical simulation, calculate the ratio of the main dimensions and static stability. The results of this research are the vessels in Pinrang kasko model has the shape of a round bottom and slim body as well as the ratio of the dimensions of the vessels only L/D purse seine LOA 24 m more than the standard reference of vessels (encircling) in Indonesia and on the value of the static stability by the IMO, with a purse seine vessel Pinrang already has a good stability. Abstract

Karimunjawa National Park (KNP) has a high diversity of coral reef and fish. This study is aimed to analyze the biodiversity of reef fish in KNP. Field survey was conducted in KNP, District of Jepara, Central Java, in April-Juni 2015. Primary data was obtained by using survey and observation method,   includes the number of reef fish individuals per family, coral cover, turbidity, total nitrogen (N), and PO4. Secondary data were obtained from KNP authority. Belt transect method was used for counting the number of reef fish individuals, while coral cover was measured using line intercept transect (LIT) method. Abundance and biomass of reef fishes were analyzed descriptively, followed by cluster analysis. The results indicated that the average of coral cover in 2015 was 44.70%. The highest coral cover was in Taka Malang with 65.65% and the lowest was in Nirwana with 35.45%. The reef fish’s abundance in 2015 was dominated by Pomacentridae (60.46%) with an abundance of 14,850 no/ha, the second position was Caesionidae (11.77%) with an abundance of 2,892 no/ha, the third was Scaridae (6.27%) with an abundance of 1,540 no/ha. The highest biomass in 2015 was Scaridae (122.33 kg/ha), the second order was Caesionidae (104.91 kg/ha), and the third was Serranidae (50.80 kg/ha). Reef fish biodiversity in KNP is considering properly maintained, as demonstrated by high abundance and biomass of fish families.  Keywords: biodiversity, reef fish, Karimunjawa, marine protected area

Abstract

Morphological changes. i.e. shoreline change and bathymetry change of Serang District were significantly influence by natural factors as well as human activities of sand mining (seabed sand exploitation). Bathymetric data were obtained through direct bathymetry measurements using Single-Beam Echosounder (Echotrac CVM Teledyne Odom Hydrographic) and GPS- Real Time Kinematic (RTK) as well as through secondary data from digitization data of DISHIDROS and LPI BIG. The data obtained is then processed to obtain the volume of moved bed sediment using 2 different topography overlays, from the bathymetry analysis result, we obtained the volume of natural sediment transported is 95,800 m3 with the value of average thickness is 0.036 m. therefore, the volume which is caused by human factors (sand mining activities during 2003-2013) is 5,578,470 m3 with the sand mining area extents of 261.9 Ha. Abstract

Kuta Beach of Bali is one of the top tourist destination for a vacation in Bali Island. The beauty of the beach with white sand, ocean waves are excellent for surfing, sunset, and tourism infrastructure which detailed makes very famous Kuta beach to foreign countries. However, in recent years the beauty of Kuta beach which has become an icon of tourism in Bali began plagued by high levels of contaminant of the marine debris on the beach, mainly contamination of the marine debris that often accumulate in Kuta beach every season West. The purpose of this study was to determine the condition of water quality based the quality standards of sea water KMNLH Number 51 Years 2004 post contamination of the marine debris that occurred in the Kuta beach of Bali. The method used is to perform measurements using a "Water Quality Checker" at 8 measuring stations. Water quality parameters which measured, namely physical parameters (temperature, turbidity) and chemical parameters (pH, salinity, DO). The results showed a temperature with the range of value 29.10-29.40°C, turbidity with the value range 0.30-18.70 NTU, pH with the value range 8.10-8.15 DO with the value range 6.85-7.38 mg/L and salinity with the value range 30.60-30.90%o. Based on the measurement data obtained indicates conditions of the waters chemistry of still suitable and condition of the waters physical showed the value of the temperature is still suitable, except the turbidity value shows the value does not suitable in the station 1, 2 and 8. Keywords: Bali, water quality, Kuta Beach, marine debris

Abstract

Vulnerability analysis is one of the methods for determining effective management of coastal and marine resources. Seribu islands potentially affected due to oil spills. The oil spills incident in this area caused by shipwreck from traffic on Tanjung Priok port and ALKI 1, as well as accident of petroleum exploration and exploitation. At least, oil spills in Seribu Islands have been recorded since 2003, 2004, 2006, 2007 and 2008. This study aims to calculate the vulnerability index of Pramuka island and Belanda island in the Seribu Islands. This research was conducted by using a theoretical approach of vulnerability (V), which is a function of exposure (E), sensitivity (S) and adaptive capacity (AC). The parameters in exposure category are tidal type, tidal range, wave height, substrat type, and water depth. Parameters in sensitivity category are growth type of reef, slope, protected ecosystem, coverage percentage, coral density, protected species, and fish abundance. Parameters in adaptive capacity are oil spill contingency system, conservation institution, community response, and economic dependence. Data of each parameter were transformed into a score ranging from 1 to 5. The formula of vulnerability index using addition and subtraction model where; V = E + S – AC.  The results indicate that Seribu Islands have vulnerability status from moderate to high, which 4.15 for Pramuka island and 6.39 for Belanda island.  Keywords: vulnerability index, Seribu islands, coral reef, oil spill

Abstract

Majakerta estuary and its surrounding waters have a high potential fishery resource which is commonly utilized by the community around the area. Fluctuation of physical and chemical parameters of the waters and fishery activities around the estuary can influence the existence of  zooplankton. This study was conducted from December 2014 to May 2015. Samples of the zooplankton were collected monthly at four stations (consisted of sea, river and estuary areas). Based on the study, zooplankton in the  Majakerta estuary and its surrounding waters consisted of six classes; i.e. Protozoa (11 genera), Crustaceae (4 genera, 1 nauplius stadia), and Rotifera (4 genera). A higher abundance was found at the sea (29025 ind./m3), while a lower  abundance was at the river and estuary (7147 ind./m3 dan 7582 ind./m3).  Based on the zooplankton diversity index, it can be inferred that the value was relatively low. There were two habitat groups, namely Station Group 1 (Station 1 and  2; river and estuary) and Station Group 2 (Station  3 and 4; sea) with influencing parameters such as  transparency, pH, and salinity.  Keywords: estuary, Majakerta, zooplankton, community structure

Abstract

Java medaka Oryzias javanicus potentially developed as test organism, represents the coastal region because it has a high adaptability in freshwater, brackishwater and marine environments. Utilization of it as a test organism has some obstacles such as lack of number of test organisms with same size or age. The fulfillment of number can be solved if the test organism is cultivated exclusively in the laboratory. This study was a preliminary study to get information about suitable salinity for spawning and hatching. Parameter observed were spawning ability in 0 and 20 ppt and hatching rate of egg among 0. 15 and 30 ppt and development of larval fish in 0 ppt. Result indicated that the fish was be able to spawn in 0 and 20 ppt. Eggs were hatched within 9 days in 30 ppt, faster than in freshwater and 15 ppt. In general, O. javanicus was be able to spawn either in freshwater or seawater, but there are differences in the behavior of fish in the laying of egg. Fish will carried their eggs in the abdomen in freshwater, while 20 ppt salinity fish tends to release the eggs. O. javanicus be able to live and lay eggs on freshwater and seawater. Selection of salinity is adjusted to test requirement in egg phase, pascalarva or adult. In general, breeding of fish easier and faster done in fresh water while hatching eggs take place more quickly in high salinity.Keywords: Indonesia, Java Medaka, Oryzias javanicus, test organism

Abstract

ABSTRACTScalloped perchlet, Ambassis nalua,  is one of fishes in Pabean Bay, Indramayu. This research aims to determine the reproductive aspects of Ambassis nalua in Pabean Bay Indramayu including sex ratio, spawning season, first maturity, fecundity and spawning pattern. Fish samples were collected by trap net and trammel net at three sites in Pabean Bay from April to October 2015. A total of 424 of A. nalua were caught, consist of 114 males and 310 females; with total length ranged from 38.04 to 112.63 mm and total weight ranged from 0.37 to 25.44 g. Sex ratio of mature fish  was 1:1.9. The mature males and females were found in every month of sampling period. The gonado-somatic index (GSI) ranged from 0.40 to 0.83 and 2.36 to 4.54 for male and female, respectively. The peak of spawning season was found in September. The first maturity (Lm50) for male and female were 79.17 mm and 91.25 mm, respectively. The fecundity varied from 3,451–32,465 eggs. Egg diameter distribution shows that spawning pattern of A. nalua was batch spawner. Keywords: Ambassis nalua, spawning season, sex ratio, reproduction
