Abstract

Cigarette industry wastewater contains organic compounds and suspended solids that may adversely affect receiving water bodies when discharged without adequate treatment. This study evaluated the effects of aeration time, electric current, and contact time on dissolved oxygen (DO), chemical oxygen demand (COD), and total suspended solids (TSS) concentrations during Electro-Fenton treatment. The experiment was conducted in batch mode using a 3 L reactor, with aeration times of 0, 5, and 10 minutes, electric currents of 3, 4, and 5 A, and contact times of 10, 15, 20, 25, and 30 minutes. The initial wastewater characteristics were pH 4.8, DO 0 mg/L, COD 1,017 mg/L, and TSS 56 mg/L. Aeration increased the initial DO concentration to approximately 5.3 mg/L after 5 minutes and 6.9–7.1 mg/L after 10 minutes. The lowest final COD concentration, approximately 150 mg/L, was obtained at an electric current of 5 A, an aeration time of 10 minutes, and a contact time of 30 minutes. The lowest TSS concentration, approximately 10 mg/L, was observed at a contact time of 10 minutes under several treatment conditions. Longer contact times generally increased the TSS concentration, which was associated with the continued formation of iron-containing solids and flocs. These findings demonstrate that aeration time, electric current, and contact time influence COD and TSS concentrations during Electro-Fenton treatment of cigarette industry wastewater. Abstract

Sorghum (Sorghum bicolor L. Moench) is a local cereal with high starch content and considerable potential as a raw material for food applications. However, the physicochemical properties of sorghum starch vary among varieties, thereby influencing its functional characteristics and suitability for food processing. This study aimed to characterize and compare the physicochemical properties of native starch extracted from red and white sorghum. The physicochemical properties evaluated included moisture content, starch content, swelling power, and water solubility. The experimental data were analyzed using analysis of variance (ANOVA) at a 95% confidence level (? = 0.05) to determine the effect of sorghum variety on the physicochemical properties of native sorghum starch. White sorghum starch exhibited higher starch content (85.73%), swelling power (2.36 g/g), and water solubility (12.49%) than red sorghum starch. Conversely, red sorghum starch showed higher moisture content (7.83%). These differences were attributed to variations in starch composition and molecular structure between the two sorghum varieties. Overall, sorghum variety significantly affected the physicochemical properties of native starch, indicating that red and white sorghum starches possess distinct functional characteristics and are suitable for different food applications.

Abstract

The research was conducted in Lombok Island, Indonesia. Samples of forages were collected from smallholder goat farms across three regencies, i.e., East Lombok, Central Lombok, and West Lombok. The selection of respondents was carried out using a purposive sampling method, whereby locations based on their relevance to smallholder goat farming activities and the availability of diverse forage resources commonly utilized by farmers. Data obtained from chemical composition and in-vitro analysis were subjected to descriptive statistics analyses, including mean and standard deviation (mean+sd). Eight forage species, including Leucaena leucocephala, Indigofera zollingeriana, Artocarpus heterophyllus, Hibiscus tiliaceus, Terminalia catappa, Jatropha curcas, Lannea coromandelica, and Native grasses, were analyzed for nutrirional composition and in-vitro analysis. Results showed significant variation among species. Leguminous forages, particularly Leucaena leucocephala and Indigofera zollingeriana, had superior nutritional profiles with high crude protein (31-40%), low neutral detergent fiber (19-35%), and high total digestible nutrients (>75%). These species also exhibited the highest in-vitro dry and organic matter digestibility (IVDMD >60%) and also produced rumen ammonia concentrations within the optimal range (9–11 mmol/L), indicating efficient microbial activity and nitrogen utilization. In contrast, non-leguminous forages and Native grasses contained higher fiber and lignin, resulting in lower digestibility (<35%) and reduced rumen ammonia levels (<6 mmol/L). In conclusion, leguminous forages, especially Leucaena leucocephala and Indigofera zollingeriana, showed the highest nutritional composition and digestibility, characterized by high crude protein, low fiber, and high in-vitro digestibility. Abstract

Microalgae are a source of bioactive compounds with potential for development as functional food ingredients. The effectiveness of bioactive compound extraction is influenced by the extraction method and the type of solvent used. This study aimed to determine the effect of microalgal species (Spirulina sp., Chlorella sp., and Nannochloropsis sp.) and solvent types (ethanol, methanol, and acetone) on the yield and phytochemical profile of the extracts produced using the Ultrasound-Microwave Assisted Extraction (UMAE) method. The study employed a factorial Complete Randomized Design (CRD) with two factors—microalgal species and solvent type—each replicated twice. Phytochemical screening results showed that Spirulina sp. extracts consistently contained alkaloids, phenols, flavonoids, saponins, tannins, and terpenoids in all solvents but did not contain steroids. Chlorella sp. extracts exhibited a similar phytochemical profile, except that tannins were not detected in the acetone extract. Meanwhile, Nannochloropsis sp. extracts showed variations in secondary metabolite content, with flavonoids and tannins detected only in the methanol extract. The results of this study indicate that the combination of microalgal species and solvent type influences both the yield and the phytochemical profile of the extracts produced via the UMAE method.

Abstract

The transport and distribution of flanged housing products to the fettling and shotblast tumbler zones in the metal casting industry heavily relies on manual material handling, which involves strenuous physical loads and highly repetitive motions. These conditions pose a significant risk of musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) for operators and hinder overall production cycle efficiency. This study aims to design and develop a semi-automatic charging system as an automated material feeding solution to optimize distribution workflows and enhance ergonomic standards at the workstation. Structural analysis confirms that the entire mechanical framework, including the main chassis and lifting arms, demonstrates exceptional structural integrity and is fully secure under maximum operational loads. The actual bending stress sustained by the structure remains well below the allowable stress threshold of the specified structural steel. Furthermore, critical powertrain elements and supporting transmission components—specifically the shafts and rotary bearings—are verified to have adequate safety factors and dynamic service-life estimates for long-term production cycles. From an occupational safety perspective, implementing a panel-controlled automated system significantly improves working postures, as assessed by the Rapid Upper Limb Assessment (RULA) framework. This systemic transition completely eradicates static loads and awkward postures, thereby fostering a substantially safer, more ergonomic, and highly efficient working environment for foundry operators. Abstract

Commercial ginger chocolate bars combine cocoa flavour with pungent, warming ginger notes, yet differences in cocoa ingredients, fat systems, milk components, ginger form, and processing can yield markedly different consumer responses. This study compared five purposively selected Indonesian commercial ginger chocolate bars, anonymized as KR, NM, MG, CU, and MJ, and integrated consumer-based Rate-All-That-Apply (RATA), preference mapping, and product-level total sugar measurement. A focus group of 10 selected participants generated a final lexicon of 19 attributes covering aroma, appearance, taste, texture/mouthfeel, and aftertaste. Eighty untrained panelists aged 20-40 years evaluated five coded samples; 0 indicated that an attribute was not perceived, whereas 1-5 represented increasing intensity, and overall liking was rated on a six-point hedonic scale. RATA data were analysed using Kruskal-Wallis and Dunn tests, principal component analysis (PCA), and preference mapping. Total sugar was determined by the anthrone method against a glucose standard coefficients across five products were treated strictly as exploratory. Eighteen attributes differed significantly, while milky aroma did not (p=0.085). PCA explained 83.39% of sensory variation. KR occupied the 80-100% overall acceptance region and was associated with sweet taste, sweet aftertaste, brown colour, and milky aroma; MJ occupied the 60-80% region and was associated with softness and melting. Among the descriptive age-group maps, panelists aged 26-35 years showed the strongest acceptance pattern, with KR and MJ both located in the 80-100% region; this subgroup was therefore highlighted in the manuscript. MG had the highest total sugar (13.02%) but was not the most preferred, illustrating that anthrone-derived sugar concentration is not equivalent to perceived sweetness or liking. The findings support product development that balances ginger identity with familiar cocoa flavour, controlled pungency, and a soft-melting texture. Abstract

Perumdam Purwa Tirta Dharma in Grobogan Regency, as a clean water service provider, is expected to meet customer expectations; however, the high number of complaints received indicates that the quality of service provided is not yet optimal. This study aims to analyze customer satisfaction levels using the Service Quality (SERVQUAL) method and to identify service attributes that should be prioritized for improvement through Importance-Performance Analysis (IPA). The study employed a quantitative approach using a questionnaire distributed to 100 active customers selected via random sampling. The results of the SERVQUAL analysis showed that all five dimensions of service quality had negative gap values, with the Tangibles dimension exhibiting the largest gap (?2.158), followed by Assurance (?2.046), Reliability (?2.026), Empathy (?2.002), and Responsiveness (?1.982), indicating that the overall service received by customers still falls short of their expectations. The IPA mapping results identified five attributes in the top-priority quadrant: clarity of service information, provision of clean water, staff appearance, speed of complaint response, and staff courtesy in serving customers. These findings serve as the basis for the company to focus on improving these five attributes by enhancing staff competence, developing clearer standard operating procedures (SOPs) for handling complaints, and implementing a digital complaint system, thereby increasing customer satisfaction and loyalty. Abstract

This study examines the impact of Halal Supply Chain Management (HSCM) on the sustainability performance of food SMEs in Padang City, evaluating consumer trust as a mediator and Lean Green Practices as a moderator. Driven by low halal certification rates despite rising consumer demand for halal and sustainable products, data were collected from food SME owners using a survey method and analyzed via PLS-SEM.The results reveal that HSCM does not directly affect sustainability performance. However, consumer trust fully mediates this relationship, demonstrating that HSCM drives sustainability performance by fostering consumer confidence in halal integrity and quality. Additionally, Lean Green Practices do not significantly moderate the relationship between HSCM and sustainability performance. Overall, the findings emphasize the necessity for SMEs to build consumer trust and adopt eco-efficient operational strategies to ensure long-term business sustainability. Abstract

This study investigates the effects of seven Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology 2 (UTAUT2) constructs (Performance Expectancy, Effort Expectancy, Social Influence, Facilitating Conditions, Hedonic Motivation, Price Value, and Habit) on Behavioral Intention and Use Behavior among users of the Tring! by Pegadaian application for digital gold (e-gold) investment. The study employs a quantitative approach using Covariance-Based Structural Equation Modeling (CB-SEM) with AMOS 23 to analyze data from 180 respondents selected through purposive sampling. The results reveal that Performance Expectancy (?=0.284, p<0.001), Social Influence (?=0.163, p<0.05), Hedonic Motivation (?=0.202, p<0.05), and Habit (?=0.370, p<0.001) have positive and significant effects on Behavioral Intention, with Habit demonstrating the strongest influence. Conversely, Effort Expectancy, Facilitating Conditions, and Price Value do not show significant effects on Behavioral Intention. For Use Behavior, Behavioral Intention (?=0.388, p<0.001) and Facilitating Conditions (?=0.293, p<0.01) have positive and significant effects, while Habit does not have a significant direct effect (?=0.049, p>0.05). Mediation analysis confirms that Habit's influence on Use Behavior operates indirectly through Behavioral Intention. These findings contribute empirical evidence on technology adoption in the emerging digital gold investment sector and provide practical recommendations for improving digital investment services in Indonesia. The study also acknowledges limitations, including the absence of trust and perceived risk constructs, and suggests directions for future research. Abstract

Environmental conditions regulate macroalgal growth and determine whether living biomass can function as an aquatic biofilter. This preliminary study described changes between day 0 (D0) and day 7 (D7) in one best final-weight culture unit selected from each of two water-medium ratios: P1 (1:0) and P2 (1:1). Wet weight, pH, temperature, salinity, dissolved oxygen (DO), and nitrate concentration were evaluated. Wet weight increased from 100.0 to 105.0 g in the 1:0 unit (+5.0%; specific growth rate 0.70% day?¹) and to 105.1 g in the 1:1 unit (+5.1%; 0.71% day?¹). In the 1:0 unit, pH rose from 7.14 to 7.44, temperature from 26.4 to 28.9 °C, salinity from 40.9 to 42.0 ppt, and DO remained at 5 mg L?¹. In the 1:1 unit, pH rose from 7.22 to 7.43 and temperature from 26.4 to 29.1 °C, while salinity declined from 42.0 to 38.3 ppt and DO from 6 to 5 mg L?¹. Nitrate concentration decreased from 9.62 to 0.00 mg L?¹ in the 1:0 unit and from 8.58 mg L?¹ to not detected (ND) in the 1:1 unit. Both selected units maintained positive short-term growth under different environmental trajectories, supporting the preliminary feasibility of Gracilaria sp. as a biofilter component. Because deliberately selected single units were analyzed and nitrate was the only nutrient parameter quantified, the findings do not establish ratio superiority or comprehensive biofiltration efficiency. Replicated trials with direct nutrient mass balances are required.
