Abstract

Gender empowerment has become one of the ways to deal with gender issues in the era of discrimination and patriarchy in gender-based life. The gender empowerment movement is a global movement that promotes women's rights by making various breakthroughs. This study aims at how gender empowerment is represented, the impact of gender empowerment and its contribution to reducing discrimination in social life so that gender equality which is the main goal of gender empowerment, can be achieved. In this study, the researcher used a feminist approach in analyzing Black Widow (2021) as data, leading to literary works representing women's daily problems. The feminist view does not limit itself to analyzing the work's aesthetic value but instead considers the significance of the relationship between social and cultural contexts. The author concludes that this research helps change cultural representations of women who always look down on women in films in future films and real life, that women can do anything just like men with gender empowerment. Abstract

Marvel Studios is the most successful franchise when it comes to superhero movies, their list of superheroes that represents “the best of humankind” goes on and on, however when it comes to showing how diverse humanity actually is they have not done their best, at least until their take on Ms. Marvel. Ms Marvel series shows the rise of Kamala Khan, the first American-Pakistani Muslim teenage superheroes amidst the typically male dominated roles, this less than usual take inspire the creation of this research that aims to examine how to deconstruct and reconstruct Muslim female superheroes in Muslim minority places. In this study, researchers used a deconstruction approach in analyzing Ms. Marvel (2022) as source that leads to forms of deconstruction and reconstruction of the Muslim female superhero concept. This research found there are forms of efforts to deconstruct the Muslim female superhero concept in Ms. Marvel of the issue of white supremacists and immigrant Muslims, because the main character of the series takes the point of view of a Muslim woman who is a minority in America. The effort to deconstruct the concept of a Muslim female superhero is an attempt to undermine the concept of a classic superhero, which Kamala herself has succeeded in deconstructing. However, there is a dualism as in Kamala's position as a Muslim woman, she is not completely free because she is still shackled by the patriarchal cultural system. The existence of ambivalence in this deconstruction effort eventually highlights the previous concept. The aim of deconstructing this series is to rebuild Kamala Khan's Muslim superhero concept. Kamala managed to become a superhero thanks to her hard work, even though she had to face difficult tasks.

Abstract

Society's expectations of how we should act, speak, dress, take care of ourselves, and behave are known as gender roles. For instance, it is expected of girls and women in general to behave politely, be accommodating, and be caring. Men are typically thought to be powerful, aggressive, and brave. Gender expectations exist in every civilization, ethnic group, and culture, albeit they might differ greatly from group to group. They might alter over time even within the same society The 3D computer-animated musical fantasy movie Frozen was created in the United States and distributed by Walt Disney Pictures. The Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale "The Snow Queen" served as the basis for this 53rd Disney animated feature film. tells the tale of a brave princess named Anna who sets out to locate her estranged sister Elsa, whose ice abilities unintentionally plunged their kingdom into an endless winter, along with a gruff iceman, devoted reindeer, and gullible snowman. By utilizing the idea of the three waves of feminism, this study tries to understand how Disney's Frozen challenges both the established gender roles of Disney Princesses and the society's perception of those of the main female characters. The study's findings demonstrate that Disney's difficulties are evident in their two primary female characters, who differ from the previous Disney Princesses. The way the society reacted to the Princess characters' differences was also depicted in the movie.

This research is a descriptive qualitative research. In this research, Encanto movie by Jared Bush and Byron Howard is used as the data source. To support this research, e-books, e-journals, articles, and other online sources relevant to magical realism are used. The result of this research shows that all elements of Wendy B Faris' magical realism such as irreducible elements, phenomenal world, unsettling doubts, merging realms, disruption of space, time, and identity can be identified in the movie. The depiction of magical realism in this film is shown in several magical phenomena that occur. The combination of realistic phenomena with magic is used to convince that this story is true. There is also a decentered ideology in the film that depicts the third world. Keywords: Magical realism; Five characteristic; Encanto.

Abstract

There are many types of exploitation ,such as nature exploitation, animal exploitation, etc. According to (Tomaskovic-Devey & Avent-Holt, 2019), "Exploitation is a situation when one party uses their position to their advantage at the expense of the other." This research analyzes Okja (2017), which focuses primarily on the acts of cruelty that may occur in actual animal farms and how Mirando Corporation exploits Okja and even Mija. The researcher mostly discusses animal abuse and cruelty, human exploitation of animals, the motive of why they do this animal exploitation and the social lessons that may be learned from this film. The researcher used Greg Garrad's idea of Ecocriticism and the Five Freedoms of Animal Welfare to carry out this study. The researcher uses screenshots and Scripts from Okja (2017) as data sources. The result of this study found that Mirando Corporation violated 4 points in 5 freedom of animal welfare, such as making the animal feel pain, making the animal feel discomfort, making the animal fear and stress, and lastly, making the animal cannot behave as usual. All these types of violations were carried out because Lucy Mirando wanted to solve world hunger and make her company name to be liked by people and media, from the most hated Agro chemical company in the world to the most likeable miracle pig company. But they need to tell white lies to the people and media about their super pig and just want to make a profit from GM animals. Abstract

Magical elements do in fact exist, and their presence cannot be explained by human understanding of the outside world (Srikanth. 2014: 331). It is thought that magical realism blurs the distinction between reality and magic by fusing the two concepts into one. Kimi no Na wa (Your Name.) is a CoMix Wave Films anime film directed and written by Makoto Shinkai. It tells the story of two high school students, Mitsuha and Taki. Who one day, they both wake up to find that they have switched bodies. They believe body-swapping is not a coincidence, but rather a consequence of a mysterious event that is connected to their pasts. This research aims to identify the elements of magical realism portrayed in the film, and explore the connections between magical realism to determine the impact of the elements of magical realism on the structure of the film. In this research, the researcher will analyze the elements of magical realism in the movie Kimi no Na wa by Makoto Shinkai, with Wendy B. Faris' five magical realism elements theory. Subtitles and Screenshots from the film Kimi no Na wa are being used by the researcher as data sources. There are also many components that can be considered as elements of magical realism in this movie which are unfortunately rarely discussed in the community. The results of this research found that Makoto Shinkai’s film Kimi no Na wa is categorized as a work of magical realism literature, because it contains 5 characteristics of magical realism. And the significant impact of magical realism elements on the structure of the film is its disruption to the traditional narrative structures. Keywords: Magical, Realism, Magical Realism, Anime, Kimi no Na wa, Makoto Shinkai.
