Abstract

Psychosocial is an important study to be understood and studied by everyone to know oneself as the basis for socializing. This study is also very important for people who have experienced social injustice, like the Baudelaire children, Violet, Klaus, and Sunny. Because the study can help the characters to know themselves to live their new life, their personality development is described through several phases called "The Eight Phases of Man" in Erik Erikson's psychosocial theory. The description of each phase, in theory, shows the importance of the process of developing character identity in social life as a fundamental way to build good social relations with many people and social circles. Based on the results of this study shows that of the eight human phases in Erik Erikson's theory, there are six phases that can be used to explain the personality of the characters. Furthermore, the descriptions reveal that there is one character that stands out the most and dominates the other two out of the three analyzed characters.

Abstract

Literacy practices are often represented in various media through literary works such as novels, films, and others. Literary works are the result of literacy practices, and the values of literacy practices are sometimes incorporated into literary works through the characters in them. However, readers often ignore the value of literacy in literary works. Literacy is more than just the cognitive ability to read and write; it also refers to what people do with literacy. Literacy can be represented in several forms and used for different purposes, one of which is power. The literacies in The Queen's Gambit novel represent power in the eyes of Beth Harmon. The power of literacy gained by Beth is represented by improving social class and increasing popularity, which later impacted her gender roles. The purpose of this study is to display literacy representation as power and its impact on gender roles in Beth Harmon, the main character in The Queen's Gambit novel. The method used is textual analysis, the main source of which is the novel The Queen's Gambit by Walter Tevis, using the framework of New Literacy Studies (NLS) as a social practice of literacy perspective using the theory of Williams and Zenger (2007) from their book "Popular Culture and Representation Literacy". The results of the study show that literacy can be powerful and impact Beth Harmon's gender roles. Keywords: representation, literacy, power, gender roles

Abstract

“Knocking On Heaven's Door” is a song by Bob Dylan written in 1973. This song is unique because it was created after Dylan's mysterious accident in 1966 and that accident put him on hiatus for some time. After returning, there were changes in his works; so the researcher thought there were things related to Dylan's psychological side. This research used the psychoanalytic theory proposed by Jacques Lacan. In analyzing the lyrics of “Knocking On Heaven's Door”, the researcher finds that Bob Dylan as the lyricist is a subject of lack and that lack brings the desire to him. Dylan has a desire for self-authenticity. Thus, it can be concluded that the lyrics of “Knocking On Heaven's Door” are metaphors and metonyms from Bob Dylan's life. Keywords: song lyric, lacan, bob dylan, desire, 'I'.

Abstract

Kata Kunci: Representasi Feminisme, Semiotika, Film AbstractThis study aims to find a representation of feminism depicted in the film Black WIdow (2021) using the Semiotic theory by John Fiske. Semiotic theory is the study of signs and how the meanings of signs are formed in media texts from any type of work in society which includes the level of reality, the level of presentation, and the level of ideology. The film Black WIdow (2021) tells the story of a woman's struggle to gain her own identity by getting out of the dictatorship of men as the ruling party in the public sphere. The results of the research show that the codes in the Black WIdow (2021) represent the value of feminism at the level of reality through codes of appearance, costumes, make-up, environment, behavior, speech styles, gestures, and expressions. The level of representation for representation of feminism can be seen in the movement of camera, setting and lighting, music and narration, dialogue, character and action, and conflict. At the ideological level, the value of feminism is depicted which shows the ideology of feminism with the flow of existential feminism because the main conflict in this film is the usurpation of women's identities by men with the aim of enslaving women so that they only obey men who have power over them. After analyzing Black WIdow (2021), researchers can conclude that feminism mainly discusses the struggle against slavery and deprivation of identity through appearance, planning, action and conflict resolution, which are represented by the codes in The Codes of Television theory which contains a level of reality, level of representation, and level of ideology. Keywords: Feminism Representation, Semiotics, Film
