Abstract

Islam in the Philippines faces significant challenges but also holds immense potential for peaceful and productive development. The long history of conflict and struggle within the Muslim community highlights the importance of adaptive and context-sensitive da'wah efforts. The success of Islamic propagation relies on the ability of Muslim communities to engage with the local socio-cultural context, gain support from the government, and foster collaboration with non-Muslim communities. Educated and context-aware local Muslim scholars play a vital role in strengthening Muslim identity and facilitating interfaith dialogue. International funding and networking alleviate local resource constraints, but transparency and accountability in fund management remain essential. Social media platforms have broadened the reach of da'wah, enabling more personalized interactions between preachers and worshippers. Key challenges include government policies, social prejudice, and negative stereotypes. However, collaborative approaches and support from both local and international actors present significant opportunities to enhance Islamic da'wah in the Philippines.

Abstract

Pesantren as a traditional Islamic educational institution in Indonesia has an important role in shaping the religious values of the community. Along with the development of digital technology and the challenges of the Society 5.0 era, pesantren are required to transform, not only in education management, but also in da'wah strategies. This study aims to describe the form and application of digitalization in pesantren da'wah, analyze the reach and influence of digital da'wah as an expression of rahmatan lil 'alamin, and identify the challenges and opportunities faced in the transformation of da'wah through technology. The approach used is sociological with a descriptive qualitative method, and data is collected through literature studies from scientific journals and verified websites. The results showed that digitalization allows pesantren to deliver da'wah through social media such as YouTube, Instagram, and TikTok with a creative approach that remains based on traditional values. Digital da'wah also expands the reach of pesantren to communities across regions, across ages, and even to the Muslim diaspora. The positive influence is seen in the formation of digital communities that strengthen the narrative of moderate Islam and expand people's understanding of the values of Islam rahmatan lil 'alamin. However, this transformation also presents challenges such as low digital literacy, resistance to internal change, and potential loss of substance if the content prioritizes popular aspects. Therefore, pesantren need to develop digital literacy strategies, strengthen collaboration with technology and media institutions, and maintain a balance between scientific substance and digital content packaging. The digitalization of pesantren traditions, if managed appropriately, can be a strong and inclusive new way of da'wah in the modern era.

Abstract

The rapid development of digital technology and social media has significantly transformed communication patterns in society, including Islamic preaching (da’wah) activities. TikTok, as a short-video–based social media platform, offers great potential for disseminating Islamic values in an effective and wide-reaching manner. This study aims to analyze the utilization of TikTok as a medium for spreading Islamic values through the da’wah content of Tuan Guru Haji (TGH.) Lalu Ahmad Zaenuri. This research employs a qualitative approach using qualitative content analysis. The data were collected through non-participant observation and documentation of ten selected da’wah videos from the TikTok account @TuanGuruZaenuri. Data analysis was conducted using the Miles and Huberman model, which includes data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal that TGH. Lalu Ahmad Zaenuri effectively utilizes TikTok as a da’wah medium by presenting concise, communicative, and contextually relevant messages aligned with everyday life. The Islamic values conveyed encompass aspects of faith (aqidah), worship (ibadah), morality (akhlaq), social values, and spirituality. The use of simple language, occasional incorporation of the local Sasak language, and diverse preaching locations serve as distinctive characteristics that enhance audience engagement. Furthermore, TikTok’s interactive features enable two-way communication and facilitate the formation of digital religious communities. This study concludes that TikTok functions not only as an entertainment platform but also as an effective medium for Islamic da’wah in the digital era.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the cultural da‘wah approach embedded in the traditional Akkawaru ceremony in Gantarangkeke District, Bantaeng Regency, South Sulawesi. Akkawaru represents a form of local wisdom of the Bugis–Makassar community that contains spiritual, social, and religious values that are still preserved today. This research employs a qualitative approach with a descriptive-ethnographic design. Data were collected through participant observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation involving 6 informants, consisting of traditional leaders, religious figures, community leaders, ritual practitioners, and local residents directly involved in the Akkawaru ceremony. Informants were selected using purposive sampling. Data analysis was conducted using Miles and Huberman’s interactive model, which includes data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing, supported by source and technique triangulation to ensure data validity. The findings reveal that Akkawaru functions not merely as a customary ritual but also as a medium of da‘wah conveying Islamic values such as gratitude to God, social solidarity, communal harmony, and respect for all of God’s creation. The cultural da‘wah approach within the Akkawaru tradition has proven effective in delivering Islamic teachings in a contextual, peaceful, and inclusive manner, while also strengthening religious moderation and social cohesion within the local community.

Abstract

Live shopping (livestream commerce) has rapidly evolved from an entertainment-oriented feature into a significant sales channel that blends real-time interaction, creator trust, and impulse-friendly promotional mechanics. This shift creates a distinctive tension for Islamic da'wah: the platform logic of urgency, scarcity, and algorithmic attention can collide with the normative commitments of truthfulness (sidq), trustworthiness (amanah), and fairness in muamalah. This article aims to develop an integrative model of 'Da'wah-First Commerce' for da'wah actors who operate within live shopping ecosystems, emphasizing value negotiation, muamalah ethics, and persuasive communication that remains ethically bounded. Methodologically, the study employs an integrative literature review of research on livestream commerce, consumer trust, parasocial interaction, and Islamic business ethics, complemented by a conceptual synthesis using the mediatisation of religion as an interpretive lens. The synthesis yields three findings: (1) live shopping's persuasive affordances are driven by social presence and parasocial bonds that shape trust and purchase intentions; (2) ethical risks cluster around information asymmetry, guilt/fear-based selling, and performative religiosity; and (3) a layered strategy—core values, operational muamalah safeguards, and 'polite persuasion'—can reduce ethical drift while preserving engagement. The article contributes a practical run-of-show, moderation SOP, and measurable indicators for both da'wah outcomes and commercial outcomes. Implications are discussed for da'wah practitioners, platforms, and regulators seeking a healthier digital marketplace.
