Abstract

Purpose: This study aims to comparatively analyze Islamic education policies in Indonesia and Egypt by examining their historical, political, institutional, curricular aspects, and challenges. Methodology/approach: This research employs a qualitative literature study with a comparative approach, focusing on differences and similarities between Islamic education policies in Indonesia and Egypt. Data sources are obtained from relevant academic journal articles, and data are analyzed using content analysis techniques. Findings: The findings indicate that Islamic education in Indonesia has evolved from the traditional pesantren and madrasah systems, which have subsequently been integrated into the national education system under the coordination of the Ministry of Religious Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia. The Indonesian system is characterized by decentralization, inclusivity, and a balanced integration of religious and general knowledge, reflecting the country’s socio-cultural context. In contrast, Islamic education in Egypt is highly institutionalized and centralized through Al-Azhar University, which maintains a long historical continuity and emphasizes the study of turats (classical Islamic heritage) and classical scholarly authority. These differences reflect two contemporary models of Islamic education: one that is open and adaptive to modern developments, and another that is strong in preserving tradition and classical scholarly authority. Practical implications: Indonesia can enhance the quality of Islamic education through the integration of religious and general curricula, the improvement of teacher competencies, and international collaboration with Egypt. Originality/value: The novelty of this study lies in the typology of adaptive-integrative and authoritative-traditional models. This typology theoretically explains the dynamics between adapting to modernity and preserving classical scholarly traditions.

Abstract

Purpose: This study aims to determine the improvement of students’ Qur’anic reading ability after tajwid instruction and to analyze the effect of tajwid comprehension on students’ Qur’anic reading ability. Methodology/approach: This study employed a quantitative approach using a quasi-experimental method with a one-group pretest-posttest design. The participants consisted of 51 students from grades VII–IX at MTs Rahmat Sa’id Bongkot Peterongan Jombang. Data were collected through pre-tests, post-tests, and Qur’anic reading practice tests. Data analysis was conducted using paired sample t-test and simple linear regression with the assistance of IBM SPSS version 26. Findings: The results showed a significant improvement in students’ Qur’anic reading ability after tajwid instruction. The mean pre-test score increased from 70.20 to 81.67 in the post-test, with an improvement percentage of 16.34% (t = 9.258; p < 0.05). Simple linear regression analysis indicated that tajwid comprehension had a positive and significant effect on Qur’anic reading ability (β = 0.454; p = 0.016). These findings indicate that better understanding of tajwid rules contributes to better Qur’anic reading ability among students. Practical implications: Schools should implement systematic tajwid instruction accompanied by continuous evaluation and regular Qur’anic reading practice to improve students’ Qur’anic reading ability. Originality/value: Previous studies generally focused on the effectiveness of specific tajwid teaching methods. This study specifically positions tajwid comprehension as the main variable influencing Qur’anic reading ability through the measurement of both theoretical understanding and practical reading skills among Islamic junior high school students.

Abstract

Purpose: This study aims to describe the use of smartphones in the teaching of Natural and Social Sciences (IPAS) in Year 4 at SD Negeri 3 Jenengan, Sawit Sub-district, Boyolali Regency. Methodology/approach: A qualitative, descriptive approach was employed. The research subject was the Year 4 teacher, whilst the object of study was the use of smartphones as a teaching aid for IPAS. Data collection techniques included observation, in-depth interviews and documentation, which were subsequently analysed using the Miles and Huberman interactive model. Findings: The use of smartphones was supported by four main factors, namely the availability of school infrastructure, an adequate internet connection, a variety of learning applications (such as Quizizz, Google Earth and YouTube), and active support from pupils’ parents. Teachers implemented the use of smartphones through three structured stages: planning (by adapting applications to learning outcomes), implementation (with intensive guidance), and evaluation (through digital quizzes and feedback via a WhatsApp group). A key finding of this study is that the success of smartphone integration is largely determined by the readiness of the supporting ecosystem beyond the teacher, particularly the role of parents in providing access to devices and internet data allowances, as well as the teacher’s ability to mitigate the risk of inappropriate device use during the learning process. Practical implications: The use of smartphones makes it easier for pupils to access a wide range of information via the internet, enabling them to learn independently. Furthermore, teachers can easily share teaching materials, set assignments and provide feedback via instant messaging platforms or learning applications. Originality/novelty: This study offers a novel focus on the use of smartphones in IPAS learning in Year 4 of primary school, covering the stages of planning, implementation and evaluation. In addition to examining the positive impacts on learning outcomes, this study also reveals the negative impacts in a more comprehensive manner and highlights the role of parental support and the use of digital applications in learning.

Abstract

Purpose: This study aims to formulate a comprehensive framework for fiqh muʼamalah learning management in Islamic educational institutions, focusing on the internalization of riba, maysir, and gharar concepts to build student sharia economic literacy in the digital era. Methodology/approach: This study employs a qualitative library research approach with descriptive-analytical techniques, drawing on the Qurʼan, Hadith, classical fiqh texts, and contemporary Islamic education management literature published within the past ten years. Data were analyzed through content analysis with source triangulation. Findings: The study identifies four interconnected dimensions of effective fiqh muʼamalah learning management: (1) curriculum planning that positions riba, maysir, and gharar as core competencies with vertical and horizontal integration; (2) instructional management integrating contextual, problem-based, and case-based learning strategies; (3) human resource and material development strengthening teachers’ capacity and digital-based teaching materials; and (4) authentic assessment measuring sharia economic literacy across cognitive, affective, and behavioral domains. Practical implications: Institutional leaders of Islamic educational institutions can adopt the four-dimensional framework as a policy guide for curriculum design, teacher capacity building, and learning evaluation systems. Teachers are encouraged to develop contemporary case-based learning strategies and leverage digital technology to make riba, maysir, and gharar materials relevant to students’ lived realities. Originality: This article contributes to Islamic education management theory by offering an integrative framework that bridges fiqh muʼamalah with institutional management practice, equipping students with the character and economic literacy needed to navigate digital-era transactions responsibly.

Abstract

Purpose: This study aims to evaluate the feasibility of implementing Bandicam-based learning media and to examine students’ responses toward its use in Aqidah Akhlak learning for Grade X students at MA Darul Ma’arif Lamongan. Methodology/approach: This study employed a Research and Development (R&D) approach using the ADDIE model, which consists of the stages of Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation. The developed product was a PowerPoint-based learning video recorded using Bandicam, covering Aqidah Akhlak topics on avoiding extravagant behavior (israf), riya’, and sum’ah. Data were collected through interviews, observations, questionnaires, and expert validation. The participants consisted of one media expert, one material expert, and 14 Grade X students from a single class who were involved in the field-testing stage. Findings: The media expert validation yielded a feasibility score of 89.33%, while the material expert validation reached 82.66%, both categorized as highly feasible. Student response questionnaires showed a feasibility percentage of 80.44%, indicating that the learning media was easy to use, visually appealing, and supportive of independent learning. The overall average feasibility score from all assessments was 84.14%, placing the product in the highly feasible category. Practical implications: Bandicam-based learning media can serve as an innovative alternative for Aqidah Akhlak teachers in presenting abstract theological and moral concepts through more interactive, engaging, and accessible learning experiences for Madrasah Aliyah students. Originality/value: This study contributes to the development of learning media in Islamic education by integrating Bandicam screen-recording technology into Aqidah Akhlak instruction at the Madrasah Aliyah level. Although video-based learning media have been widely developed in Islamic education, the application of Bandicam-based media in Aqidah Akhlak learning remains limited and has received relatively little attention in previous studies.

Abstract

Purpose: This study aims to analyze the effects of brand image, consumer trust, and word of mouth on the purchasing decisions of Fortune cooking oil consumers in Ambon City. Methodology/approach: This study employed a quantitative approach with an explanatory research design. Data were collected through questionnaires distributed to 120 consumers who had purchased and used Fortune cooking oil. The data were analyzed using multiple linear regression with the assistance of Jamovi software. Findings: The findings indicate that brand image, consumer trust, and word of mouth have positive and significant effects on purchasing decisions. Among these variables, word of mouth was found to be the most influential factor affecting consumer purchasing decisions. These findings suggest that purchasing decisions for cooking oil are influenced not only by the functional attributes of the product but also by psychological and social factors reflected in brand perception, consumer trust, and interpersonal communication. Practical implications: The results imply that companies should strengthen brand image, maintain consumer trust, and encourage positive consumer-to-consumer communication to enhance purchasing decisions and sustain consumer preference in a highly competitive market. Originality/value: This study extends consumer behavior research in the context of staple household products by simultaneously examining the effects of brand image, consumer trust, and word of mouth on purchasing decisions for Fortune cooking oil in Ambon City. Unlike previous studies that primarily focused on digital products, smartphones, and retail settings, this study demonstrates that word of mouth is the most dominant factor influencing purchasing decisions in the context of local consumers of household food products.

Abstract

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to summarize the best practices of adaptive leadership that are in line with technological advances, shifts in learning systems, and the dynamics of current school/madrasah governance Methodology/approach: This study examines various empirical and conceptual literature sources published over the past five years. It uses a systematic approach, examining more than 30 nationally indexed articles to enrich the discussion Findings: Based on the results of the study, it was revealed that adaptive leadership strategies will be optimal if they emphasize the combination of technology and pedagogy, continuous improvement of the quality of human resources from teachers, staff, and students, flexibility in managing change, the formation of an innovative and mutually supportive school environment/culture, and the existence of monitoring and evaluation of implementation carried out by utilizing digital media Practical implications: Schools and Islamic schools are required to build innovative learning environments by providing digital-based platforms for both learning media and school administration systems. Furthermore, institutions must actively develop human resources willing to develop. This begins with principals, who must adapt to digital disruption, and teachers and staff, who must receive intensive training in technology use for implementation in daily teaching and learning activities. Originality/value: The novelty of this study provides a new theoretical contribution by shifting the conventional paradigm; principals in the era of disruption do not only act as facilitators of digital tools, but must also be able to implement dynamic data-driven decision-making to monitor the progress of educators and students.

Abstract

Purpose: This study aims to analyze and compare excursion policies implemented at The Australian Islamic College Adelaide (AIC) and East Preston Islamic College (EPIC), particularly in terms of experiential learning, risk management, and inclusivity. Methodology/approach: This research employs a qualitative approach using a comparative method through document analysis and content analysis of policy documents from both institutions. Data were collected through documentation and literature study, and analyzed systematically to identify similarities and differences in policy aspects. Findings: The findings indicate that both institutions position excursion activities as part of experiential learning integrated into the curriculum. However, differences exist in policy orientation. AIC emphasizes technical aspects, standardized procedures, and structured risk management to ensure student safety. In contrast, EPIC focuses on inclusivity, student well-being, flexibility, and active parental involvement. These differences reflect distinct approaches, namely managerial-technical and humanistic approaches. Practical implications: The results suggest that educational institutions should integrate structured management systems with inclusive and student-centered approaches in designing excursion policies to ensure safety, effectiveness, and meaningful learning experiences. Originality/value: This study provides a comparative perspective on excursion policy in Islamic educational institutions, highlighting the importance of balancing standardization and inclusivity in educational policy development.

Abstract

Purpose: This research examines the management effectiveness of the Merdeka Curriculum under regional autonomy, gauging the synergy between fulfilling local aspirations and achieving national standards to equitably optimize national education quality. Methodology/approach: A qualitative literature review approach was employed. Systematic searches of scientific literature and official government documents from 2017 to 2025 were conducted, followed by in-depth evaluation using qualitative content analysis and thematic synthesis. Findings: Implementation shows significant tension between national flexibility and local contextual adaptation. While regional autonomy provides strategic roles, its success heavily depends on local governance quality. Furthermore, on-the-ground effectiveness is hindered by severe disparities in teacher readiness for innovative practices, and educational inequality in frontier regions remains a critical challenge. Practical implications: Local governments must create responsive policies and provide equitable capacity-building programs for educators to minimize regional disparities in curriculum implementation. Originality/value: This review specifically maps the dilemma between national standard centralization and local aspiration decentralization regarding the ongoing Merdeka Curriculum implementation in Indonesia.

Abstract

Purpose: This study aims to examine the influence of fintech payment, financial literacy, and financial behavior on the personal financial management of students at University KH. A. Wahab Hasbullah. Methodology/approach:  This study employed a quantitative approach. The sample consisted of 97 respondents selected from a population of 2,771 students using Slovin's formula. Data were collected through a Google Forms questionnaire using a Likert scale and analyzed using SPSS 15. The analysis included validity and reliability tests, classical assumption tests (normality, linearity, multicollinearity, and heteroscedasticity), multiple linear regression analysis, partial t-tests, simultaneous F-tests, and the coefficient of determination. Findings:  The results reveal that fintech payment does not significantly affect students' personal financial management (t-value = 1.241 < t-table = 1.661; Sig. = 0.218 > 0.05). Financial literacy also does not have a significant effect on students' personal financial management (t-value = 1.769 > t-table = 1.661; Sig. = 0.080 > 0.05). In contrast, financial behavior has a positive and significant effect on students' personal financial management (t-value = 4.147 > t-table = 1.661; Sig. = 0.000 < 0.05). Simultaneously, fintech payment, financial literacy, and financial behavior significantly influence students' personal financial management (F-value = 48.324 > F-table = 2.703; Sig. = 0.000 < 0.05). Practical implications:  The findings provide practical insights for higher education institutions in designing financial education programs that emphasize the development of positive financial behavior to improve students' personal financial management. Originality/value:  This study provides empirical evidence regarding the simultaneous contribution of fintech payment, financial literacy, and financial behavior in explaining students' personal financial management in Indonesian higher education.
