Abstract

Hyperemesis Gravidarum is a condition in pregnant women characterized by nausea and vomiting throughout the day during pregnancy, often occurring in the first trimester. Several factors can lead to hyperemesis gravidarum in pregnant women, including hormonal imbalances involving HCG, estrogen, progesterone, and cortisol. Hyperemesis can be caused by multifactorial issues, including primigravida, allergies, the relationship between psychological factors such as family support, anxiety about pregnancy, and the mother's nutritional status. This study aims to identify the factors influencing the incidence of hyperemesis gravidarum in first-trimester pregnant women. This cross-sectional study was conducted on 68 first-trimester pregnant women in the Working Area of the Ketapang Nusantara Health Center in Central Aceh Regency from October 2021 to March 2022. The sampling technique used was purposive sampling. Data analysis was performed using the Chi-Square test, and the results showed a relationship between knowledge and the incidence of hyperemesis gravidarum (p=0.005), education level (p=0.005), parity (p=0.002), and age during pregnancy (p=0.015). Therefore, pregnant women need to receive health information education about their pregnancy to manage and reduce the morbidity rates in mothers and babies and to address hyperemesis gravidarum during pregnancy.

Abstract

Anemia is a condition characterized by a lower-than-usual hemoglobin level in the blood. The purpose of this study was to analyze the relationship between the level of knowledge, menstrual disorders, and body mass index and the incidence of anemia in female adolescents in high schools within the working area of the Marina Permai Palangka Raya Health Center, using an analytical observational method with a cross-sectional approach. The research sample consisted of 108 female adolescents from high schools within the working area of the Marina Permai Palangka Raya Health Center. Sampling was done using proportional random sampling. Data analysis employed descriptive statistics, chi-square tests, and multiple logistic regression. The results of the chi-square analysis showed a p-value for the variable level of knowledge (p = 0.375), menstrual disorders (p = 0.001), and body mass index (p = 0.000). The results of the multiple logistic regression analysis showed a p-value and Exp(B) for the variable menstrual disorders (p = 0.000, Exp(B) = 20.300) and body mass index (p = 0.000, Exp(B) = 25.477). There is a relationship between menstrual disorders and body mass index with the incidence of anemia in female adolescents. There is no relationship between knowledge level and the incidence of anemia in adolescent girls. The most dominant variable associated with the incidence of anemia in adolescent girls is body mass index

Abstract

Maternal Mortality Rate (MMR) and Infant Mortality Rate (IMR) remain major health issues in Indonesia. Pregnancy, childbirth, postpartum, newborn care, and family planning services are physiological periods with high risks for maternal and infant morbidity and mortality. One strategic effort to reduce MMR and IMR is to provide comprehensive and continuous midwifery care through the Continuity of Care (CoC) approach. This final project aims to implement comprehensive midwifery care for Mrs. S at RSIA Masyita Makassar, covering antenatal care, intranatal care, newborn care, postpartum care, and the selection of contraceptive methods. The care was provided using the 7-step Varney midwifery management framework and documented using the SOAP format. Data were collected through interviews, observations, physical examinations, supporting examinations, and document reviews. The results showed that Mrs. S (G3P1A1), at 36–38 weeks of gestation, attended four antenatal visits without any pregnancy danger signs. Labor progressed spontaneously, and the baby, a female, cried immediately after birth, weighed 3,160 grams, measured 50 cm in length, with a head circumference of 30 cm and chest circumference of 31 cm. The postpartum period was normal, with three follow-up visits and no complications. The patient chose progestin-only pills as her postpartum contraceptive method. Through this care, it is expected that the patient will improve her knowledge and awareness of possible complications, and this experience will also serve as a valuable opportunity for the author to enhance her skills in delivering comprehensive midwifery care

Abstract

Complaints of frequent urination during the third trimester can cause discomfort for pregnant women. Physically, this condition can disrupt the mother's activity patterns, as the increased frequency of urination can hinder daily activities and disturb rest patterns. Kegel exercises, aimed at strengthening the bladder sphincter and pelvic floor muscles, were one method that could help reduce the frequency of urination in pregnant women. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of Kegel exercises on urination frequency in pregnant women during their third trimester. This research was conducted as a quasi-experimental study with a nonequivalent group design, using the Wilcoxon statistical test. Sampling was performed through purposive sampling, with 15 participants in the intervention group and 15 in the control group. The results showed that, in the intervention group, the pre-test frequency of urination categorized as frequent was recorded for nine pregnant women. After the post-test, there was a change in urination frequency, with 12 pregnant women now categorized as infrequent. Meanwhile, in the control group, the pre-test frequency of urination categorized as frequent was recorded for four pregnant women. After the post-test, there was an increase, with 12 pregnant women still categorized as frequent. There was a significant effect of Kegel exercises on urination frequency in pregnant women during their third trimester, with a p-value of 0.001 < 0.05. In conclusion, Kegel exercises affected the frequency of urination in pregnant women during their third trimester at the Bongomeme Health Center.
