Abstract

Potatoes have a high nutritional content such as carbohydrates, starch, fat, protein, and water. Almost 90% of medicinal raw materials, both active substances and additives are obtained through imports and abroad, even though Indonesia's natural resources can be developed. This study aims to determine the effect of using pregelatinized local potato starch (Solanum tuberosum) as a developer in paracetamol tablets by direct compression. This research was conducted experimentally using five formulas with certain concentrations of F1 (4%), F2 (6%), F3 (8%), and F4 (10%). Then the tablet evaluation test was carried out, namely the weight uniformity test, tablet hardness test, tablet friability test, tablet disintegration time test. The results showed that the paracetamol tablets with local pregelatinized potato starch developer were made to meet the requirements for weight uniformity test, tablet hardness test, tablet friability test, and tablet disintegration time test. It can be concluded that local pregelatinized potato starch (Solanum tuberosum) can be used as a developer in paracetamol tablets.

Abstract

Breast milk (ASI) is the best food for babies. Breast milk has advantages compared to other milk, including guaranteed cleanliness, the composition of breast milk is also very suitable for digestion, growth, and development of babies, one of the compositions contained in breast milk is protein. Currently, many mothers cannot breastfeed their own babies, so they choose infant formula as a substitute for breast milk. The purpose of this study was to determine differences in protein levels in infant formula and breast milk. Determination of protein content was carried out using the Kjeldahl method which is a simple method for determining total nitrogen in protein and other nitrogen-containing compounds. The Kjeldahl method is carried out through 3 processes, namely: the destruction process, the distillation process, and the titration process according to the procedures and tools used in the Chemistry Laboratory of the Sari Mutiara Indonesia University. The results of the determination of protein levels using the Kjeldahl method contained a protein with average levels in infant formula brand A (10.10 ± 0.96) %, infant formula brand B (10.95 ± 2.43) %, infant formula brand C (11.0666 ± 1.6932) %, and breast milk (20.5733 ± 3.1828) %.

Abstract

Whitening cream is a mixture of chemicals and or other ingredients with properties that can fade dark spots on the skin. Whitening cream must be safe and must not contain harmful ingredients such as heavy metal mercury because its toxicity to the organs of the kidneys, nerves, and brain is very strong, so its use is prohibited in cosmetic preparations. The purpose of this study was to determine the levels of metallic mercury (Hg) contained in the preparation of facial whitening creams circulating in Sei Sikambing Market, Medan. The sample used in this study was a facial whitening cream that was not registered with BPOM. The method used to determine mercury levels is qualitatively using color reagents and quantitatively using AAS (Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometry). The results obtained were from 2 samples of facial whitening cream that were used positively for heavy metal mercury (Hg) characterized by the formation of a red-orange precipitate with KI reagent, yellow precipitate by NaOH reagent, white precipitate by HCl reagent. The results of the analysis showed that the highest Hg metal content in the sample with code E was 5.0241 ± 0.4064 g/g. The conclusion of this study is that two samples were positive for mercury, where the use of mercury has been prohibited by BPOM.
