Abstract

The objective of this research was to obtain the best dosage of paddy straw compost as residual effect from the first planting toward growth and production of green mustard at the second planting. The experimental research was carried out in duration of 3 months using Completely Block Randomized Design (CBRD) with 5 treatments and 4 replications. The treatments were the application of paddy straw Tricho-compost of o ton/ha, 10 tons/ha, 15 tons/ha, 20 tons/ha, and 25 tons/ha. Parameters observed were plant height (cm), leaf area (cm2), number of leaf (piece), root length (cm), fresh weight of plant (g) and consumable fresh weight of the plant (g). Deta obtained were analyzed by anova and continued by Duncant New Multiple Range Test (DNMRT) at 5% level. The result of this research showed that application of paddy straw Tricho compost at 20 tons/ha dosage for the first planting gave the best effect for the growth and production of green mustard at second planting. There was an increase of green mustard growth an production at the second planting.

Abstract

This research aimed to investigate the best soaking time for areca seed in young coconut water to improve its germination. This research was carried out in Jalan Limbungan, Limbungan village Rumbai district, Pekanbaru city. This research started from early March to end of May 2005. The method esed in this research was non factorial of completely randomized design with 3 replications. Parameters in this research were the time germination, germination ability, speed of germination, plumulae length, root length, and dry weight of seed. The seed soaking treatments significantly affected all germination parameters except the root length and the best treatment for araca seed is A4 (24 hours of soaking).

Abstract

This research aimed toknow influence of interaction of mashitam organic fertilizer dosage and NPK 25:7:7 to the productivity of cabbage (Brassica oleracea var. Capitata L.). the Treatments were arranged in a factorial 3x3 of Completely Randomized Design with 3 replications. The first factor was mashitam organic fertilizerdosage of 3 levels namely 250, 500, and 750 kg/ha and the second factor was NPK 25:7:7 dosage of 3 levels namely 0, 70, and 140 kg/ha. Parameters observed were cabbage crop forming time, harvest age, crop diameter and fresh weight of cabbage crop. Application of 500 kg/ha mashitam organic fertilizer and 140 kg/ha NPK 25:7:7 provided the highest result.

Abstract

Identification of high inputs to increase the land suitability for oil palm plantation was carried out at PT. Teso Indah, Indragiri Hulu, Riau in 2006. The land evaluation system applied in this study was maximum limiting factors. The result of this study indicated that reas occupied by three soil mapping units were: SPT1 of 3,988.36, SPT2 of 807.57 and SPT3 of 21.07 ha. Actual land suitability classes of PT. Tweso Indah were not suitable  currently and the limiting suitability factors are depth (100-200 cm), flood, drainage, pH, and base saturation. The high inputs needed to increase the suitability class are compacted peat and draiage channel construction.

Abstract

The objective of this research was to achieve the best CMA dosage for soybean growth and production in red yellow podzolic soil. This research was carried out experimentally by Completely Randomized Design (CRD) which consisted of 5 treatments (0 g CMA/plant, 10g CMA/plant, 20g CMA/plant, 30g CMA/plant, dan 40g CMA/plant) and 4 replications. Parameters observed were CMA infection percentage (%), the age of flower bloom (day), the age of harvesting time (day), amount of pods (pods), and seed dry weight (g).  The analysis of Variance was followed by Duncan’s New Multiple Range Test at 5% level. The result of this research concluded that application of 40g CMA/plantin red yellow podzolic soil will increase soybean growth and production.

Abstract

The study aimed to analyze development of smallholder oil palm plantations in Riau, focusing on patterns of partnership between farmer and estate companies, financial intitutions, marketing agents, and industries, and analyzed profit margin and farmer incomecontribution to household income. Data had been collected by household survey and indepth interviews, and analyzed using a descriptive-comparative method. The study identified that smallholder oil palm plantations were developed by finance scheme of Nucleus Estate Smallholder (NES), KKPA (Kreedit Koperasi Primer untuk Anggota), and pure self finance. According to the poverty criteriaby Sayogyo, most of the oil palm farmers are not in poor category. The productivity of pure self finance smallholder plantation is 15.5% to 44.0% from the research-based palm oil standart productivity, while smallholder plantations by NES and KKPA have 61,3% to 83,8% and 39,7% to 70,6% of the standart, respectively. It is due to diferences in seed used and agricultural technology applied. Marketing of fresh fruit bunches in smallholder plantations by NES and KKPA integrated with nucleus estate or company, while marketing by pure self finance smallholder plantations used intermediate sellers.

Abstract

The effects of ammonium sulphate on physical properties of bacterial cellulose-Nata de banana skin produced by Acetobacter xylinum had been studied. The pupose of this study was to find out the optimum concentration of ammonium sulphate that can be used to produce maximum Nata de banana skin. A completely randomized design was used in this research and the treatments were concentrations of ammonium sulphate; A1 (0,4% per vol), A2 (0,8% per vol), and A3(1,2% per vol). The result showed that various concentrations of ammonium sulphate significantly affected  the tital bacteria population, but did not provide different results for thickness, weight, moisture and yield.
