Teaching English as a Foreign Language Overseas Journal (TEFLO)
Teaching English as a Foreign Language Overseas Journal (TEFLO) is a Journal of English Education Study Program of Universitas Kristen Indonesia Toraja (p-ISSN:2461-0240) is a scientific journal published third a year in April, August and December. It was established on 25th September 2016 for printing. TEFLO publishes articles as the results of research and scientific work either empirical or conceptual. This journal focuses on both research and conceptual articles done by any English teacher or lecturer within Indonesia or overseas countries. It allows any writer to submit up to 8-12 pages or equivalent with 2500 to 4000 words in range. It applies APA style in all articles submitted to this journal. While the scopes include English Language Teaching (ELT) in EFL or ESL context, English applied linguistics (EAL) in any form: empirical or conceptual. TEFLO focuses on and welcomes researchers in both EFL and ESL contexts to publish professional or conceptual articles, and research articles formed in a qualitative and quantitative study in the area of the following scopes: Analysis of English pieces of literature in the English Education Context Discourse Analysis in the English Education context ELT Material Development English Applied linguistics English for Specific Purposes English Language Testing and Evaluation Psycholinguistics, Sociolinguistics, and Anthropolinguistic Tourism and Local Wisdom issues

The objective of the research was (1) to find out whether or not the use of short story to improve the students’ vocabulary achievement of Grade IX Students of SMP Negeri 6 Pangsid, (2) to find out which aspect of vocabulary was dominantly affected by short story at SMP Negeri 6 Pangsid. This research employed the method of the research was quasi-experimental research method. Two classes were selected using cluster random sampling technique, 25 students each. One by experimental group, and the other by control group. The experimental group was taught by short story method and the control group was taught by non-short story or conventional method. The data were collected use vocabulary test administered to experimental group and control group before and after treatment. The treatment was conducted for eight meetings for experimental group and control group. The data was analyzed using SPSS 20.0 version. The result of the t-test value in posttest (20.294) was higher than t-table (2.010) while the t-test value of control group (4.164). This means that H1 was accepted. The research concluded that (1) teaching vocabulary by using short story increased the students’ vocabulary at the ninth year of SMP Negeri 6 Pangsid and (2) the aspect that most affected was word meaning, it was proven by the interval score was higher among the others aspects (85.20).

This research aimed to find out whether or not the used of word wall media can improve students’ vocabulary mastery. The writer used pre-experimental design which involved one class as the subject of the research. The population was VIII grade students at SMP Negeri 23 Makassar. Sample in this research was class VIII.1 which consists of 35 students. In this research the writer gathering data by given vocabulary test in pre-test and post-test consist of 10 multiple choice questions and 10 matching word questions. Pre- test is given to find out how far the students ability before they were given treatment used word wall media. The writer gave the posttest to know the student’s improvement after they are given treatment. The writer analyze data to find the mean score, the different between pre-test and post-test used statistic formula. The result of the research showed that there was a significant different which gained by the students in pre-test and post-test. The mean score of in pre-test is 59.43 and post- test is 80.14. From the result of data analyze, it can be concluded that by using word wall as a media can improved students vocabulary mastery at SMP Negeri 23 Makassar.

Writing is a complex process that draws on: our knowledge of the topic, our ability to anticipate what readers will need, our ability to logically organize information, our skill at finding the right words, our ability to evaluate our efforts, and the perseverance to keep working. In this research, the writer expected to find out strategy to reinvigorate students’ enthusiasm in writing. Design of the research is qualitative research. The writer interviewed the English teacher and students to knowing some information from her/him about enthusiasm in writing. Successful navigation frequently results in reinvigorating students' enthusiasm for writing even if they struggle with learning disabilities. The objectives of the research were (1) to find out the influence of Instagram on social behavior in using English of under graduate students (2) To find out the influence of Instagram on student’s motivation in using English and (3) To find out the students interest in using English on Instagram. The researcher applied mixed method namely triangulation mixed method design (QUAN-QUAL). The population of this research was the students of English Language Education Program FKIP Bosowa University Makassar. This research used purposive sampling. The sample of this research consisted of 40 students; 10 students from first semester and 10 students from third Semester, 10 Students from fifth semester and 10 students from seventh semester. The research data were collected by questionnaire which was analyzed by descriptive statistic through SPSS version 16 for windows program. The result of data analysis shown that College students had on social networking like Instagram may affect their social behavior. Instagram can encourage the students' motivation and attitudes towards learning English, and also increase interaction between teachers, students and others. The aim of his research is wanting to know that the herringbone technique application is effective to improve student skill in reading, predict, make the conclusion in every paragraph and able to solving the problem by the students in understand the reading or discourse. This research is experimental research that I did in SMP Negeri 23 Makassar. In this research the total of population in Grade VII students are 480 students that shared in 12 classes. The researcher choose sample in class VII-12 are 32 students. The aim of the researcher to choose class VII12 as a subject of the research because the average of the student in this class still less to understand the reading text. The result data analysis in pre-test and post-test shows up that t-test score is 36.25 and t-table score is 2.036. It means the t-test score is better than t-table or (tt36.25> 2.036). These things show up the students’ skill to understand reading text at the end of the research is improved. These things can identify with the significant different between average score in pre-test (3) and post-test 5.8). This research shows up if herringbone technique that try out in SMP Negeri 23 Makassar is works. It appears that student’s English skill to understand reading text from bad to better.

This research is aimed to know the students’ reading comprehension through inference strategy at SMPN 35 Makassar. This research applied an experimental method. The population of the research was students of the second grade of SMPN 35 Makassar. The sample of the research took through their registration number consists of 40 students. They are students of classVIII.7. Data collected through pre-test and post-test. From the result of the research that student ability on pretest and post test showed that the t test score was 6,923 and t table was 2,021, it means t test score better than t table score or (6,923 > 2,021) it means that the student reading ability after given treatment increased and the result was the effect of using inference strategy can improve the students’ reading comprehension at second grade of SMPN 35 Makassar

The purpose of this writing is to know the effect of using Questions in motivating students to master English vocabulary of SMP Wahyu Makassar. This research is experiment research that according to students ‘vocabulary knowledge. The population in this research is students’ class VII-A of SMP Wahyu Makassar with number of sample 25 students. This research holds on January 2016. In this research, the writer used test as the instrument that given on pre-test and post-test. The result of research showed that with using questions method in teaching and learning English process can improving students’ vocabulary of SMP Wahyu Makassar. In other words, with using questions can giving positive effect to students. Using questions in this research can be said success because can improving students’ vocabulary.

The aim of this study is to describe the way students’ writing ability of the third-year students improved by using Wholesome Scattering Game of SMP Negeri 35 Makassar. The study employed Experiment Class. Where the subject consisted of 30 students who taken from class IX-1 of the third-year students of SMP Negeri 35 Makassar. The instrument of this research was writing test. The data were collected in pre-test and post-Test. The result indicates that the mean score in pre-test of experiment class was 55 and posttest was 85,83 It shows that used of Wholesome Scattering Game as a medium has effect on students’ writing paragraph at SMP Negeri 35 Makassar

This research is aimed to know the reading ability of Senior Air Traffic Control Cadets through ICAO English Language Proficiency Test. This research applied descriptive study. The population of the research was 87 cadets of D.III SATC CASEA Makassar which are divided into 4 classes, they are D.III SATC VI, D.III SATC VII, D.III SATC VIII A dan D.III SATC VIII B. The sample of the research took through their registration number consists of 24 cadets. They are cadets of D.III SATC VIII B. Procedure of collecting data that the researcher has applied was gave the reading test to cadets, and each cadet should answer the questions that given. The result of the research shows that the senior air traffic control cadets still have low ability in reading

The objectives of the research were to know the use of scrabble game can reinforce EFL Young Learners vocabulary. The writer was applied pre-experimental with one group pre-test and post-test. This research was conducted at SMPN 35 Makassar sub-district of Biringkanaya, Makassar city. In this research, the population was the seven grade students of SMPN 35 Makassar. The total numbers of population were 240 students. The researcher was used total sampling technique. The total number of samples was 30 students from class VII-1. In analyzing the numerical data, the writer used SPSS for windows. After conducted the research, the writer concludes that the use of Scramble Game in teaching English vocabulary enriches the students’ vocabulary; it is proved by the mean score of the students in pre-test and posttest. The mean score of the pre-test before the treatment was 57.40 and after the treatment the students gained score 74.67. The t-test of the students’ vocabulary achievement in posttest was smaller than ?. The researcher found that the p-value (probability value) was lower than ? (0.00 < 0.05) and the degree of freedom was 29. The t-test value of pre-test and post-test was remarked significantly different. It indicated that the alternative hypothesis (H1) was accepted and, of course, the null hypothesis (H0) was rejected.o learn autonomously and it is compulsory subject from the school.
