Abstract

The purpose of this research is to analysis what kinds error in perfect tense made by student in English education study program and to find out the cause of error made by students at English education study program in Muhammadiyah Luwuk University. The method of this research is qualitative-descriptive. This research used two instruments, the first instrument is test and the second instrument is interview. This research used data analysis technique by Miles and Huberman stated that data analysis technique into three parts, those are data reduction, data display and conclusion drawing. The research subject is students in English education study program that already programed the general English structure. The result of the test found four types of error. Those are addition, omission, substitution and miss ordering. And the result of the interview found four causes of error. Those are interlingua transfer, intralingua transfer, context of learning and communication. The highest error is substitution with 110 error. and the most cause of error that happened in students English education study program is intralingua transfer.

Abstract

The purpose of this research was to determine wheter using CLT (Communicative Language Teaching) can improve pupils’ speaking ability at Prateepsat Ismail Memorial School or not. This research used a quasi-experimental research that required a pre-test and a post-test for both groups. The research population was pupils in grade 2, where class 2/2 as an experimental class consisiting of 36 pupils and class 2/1 as a control class consisting of 36 pupils. In collecting data, reseracers used test. The test consisted of a pre-test and post-test. Data were analyzed statistically. After being analyzed, the result of t-counted was 11,977 with 70 degrees of freedom and a significance level of 0,05, the table is 1,666. This research used a significance level of 0,05 because it has moderate accuracy. Therefore the result of t-counted is higher than t-table. It means that the hypothesis of this research is accepted. In conclusion, there was a significant effect in using CLT (Communicative Language Teaching) to improve pupils’ speaking ability of the second grade at Prateepsat Ismail Memorial School, Thailand.

Abstract

Abstract The purpose of the research is to investigate the eight-grade students’ interest in learning English at SMP Negeri 4 Totikum. It was a qualitative research, and the researcher conducted interviews to collect the data. The researcher chose SMP Negeri 4 Totikum as a subject because the researcher had prior data that the students were interested in learning. Therefore, the researcher wanted to know specifically in English subject. Based on the findings of the research, the researcher concluded that majority of the eighth-grade students' interest in learning English at SMP Negeri 4 Totikum were low, majority of them uninterested in learning English. There were several factors supporting the interest, namely: attention, willingness, feeling happy, teaching materials and teachers, participation, environment, family, and society.

Abstract

This study aims to see the effect of Jigsaw techniques in improving students’ reading comprehension. The population in this research was students of X grade SMK Handayani Luwuk. The research sample involved all students using total sampling technique. The main instrument in collecting research data is test. Data analysis used t-test analysis to compare students’ means score. The calculation result shows that the t-counted value 8.271 is higher than the t-table 1.795. it means that improving students’ reading comprehension by applying Jigsaw technique was effective. The alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted and the null hypothesis (H0) is rejected. Therefore, it can be concluded that the application of Jigsaw technique is effective in improving students’ reading comprehension.

Abstract

Abstract The purpose of this research is to know whether the initial stage can improve writing skill, to find out how their paraphrase capabilities result using the initial stage, and to know the students’ writing skill. This research employed quasi experimental design. Independent variable of this research was the initial stage technique and the dependent variable was the students’ writing skill. The population of this research was the eleventh grade students of MAN 1 Luwuk Banggai in 2020/2021 academic year. The way of taking the sample was by using purposive sampling. The samples were class XI IPA 1 as the experimental group and class XI IPA 2 as the control group. The test consisted of pre-test and post-test. Data were analyzed statistically. After analyzed the data, the result revealed that the t-counted was 14.38 with a degree of freedom 70 and a significance level of 0.05, t-table was 1.666. Therefore, the t-test result was higher than the t-table. It means that the hypothesis was accepted. In conclusion, the result showed that the initial stage technique of paraphrasing can develop writing skill of the eleventh grade students’ of MAN 1 Luwuk Banggai. Abstract

This research aims to find out whether students’ understanding in learning on simple present tense can be improved by using games or not. This research employed pre-experimental design. The variables of this research were games as the independent variable and the students’ understanding in learning simple present tense as the dependent variable. The population of this research was the VIII grade of SMP Negeri 7 Ampana Tete which consists of twenty five students. The technique sampling was total sampling, which means that all population was taken as the sample of this research. The researcher used test as the main instrument in this research which was divided into pre-test and post-test. The data analysis of this research used statistic calculation. The result of the research, the mean score of pre-test was 55.8 while the mean score in post-test was 87.2 and the testing hypothesis, the t-counted score was 11.80, while t-table for degree of freedom 24 and the level of significance = 0.05 was 1.710. It indicated that the hypothesis was accepted because games have improved students’ understanding in learning on simple present tense.
