Abstract

This research purposes to find out what type of words mistake made by the students and the causes of mistake made by the students in skripsi examination especially in English Education Study Program. This research is a qualitative research by using documentation and interview as intruments. The researcher used audio recording in documentation to record the students' proposal seminar performance and the researcher asked some questions in interview by using the audio recording to record the students' answers. The researcher selected 6 students in a class as a sample. This data collection involved 6 students of English Education Study Program who finished their skripsi examination. The result of this research indicate that the common mistake are made by the students during skripsi examination such us hard to apply grammar rule, limited number of vocabulary, and not perfect in pronounciation and intonation. Also, the result of this research indicate the causes of students mistake during skripsi examination namely communication apprehension, test anxiety, lecturer’s characteristic, and psychological factors.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to identify the difficulties of understanding descriptive text faced by the students of class IX MTS N 1 Banggai, and to identify the factors that influence students' difficulties in understanding reading descriptive texts. The subjects of this study were students of class IX MTS N 1 Banggai. This type of research is descriptive qualitative. This study used two instruments to obtain data, namely interviews and the students’ result. The researchers classify and reduce data. The researcher found that some students still did not understand the descriptive text which was determined by the main idea. The researcher found that some students did not understand the descriptive text, whose main idea was determined first. And, students who had difficulty understanding the vocabulary of the text. Then, there are students who have difficulty in understanding making conclusions from the text using and the last difficulties are to find detail information in descriptive text. The factors that cause students to have difficulty in understanding English reading texts are difficulties in understanding long sentences to read. text, inadequate instruction given by the teacher, difficulty in understanding vocabulary.

Abstract

The objective this research is to improve students’ reading comprehension through story grammar strategy at SMP Negeri 08 Satap Doda Bunta. This research used a pre-experimental research design with one group pretest and posttest design. The population of this research was the students of VIII grade of SMP Negeri 8 Satap Doda Bunta consisted of twenty-eight students. The sample of this research was all the population of the research. In collecting data, the researcher used test. The test consisted of pretest and posttest. Data were analyzed statistically. After being analyzed, it was found that the result of the t-counted was 9,245. With 27 degree of freedom, and a the significance level of 0,05, the t-table was 1,703.Therefore, the result of t-counted is greater than t-table. It is clear that the research hypothesis is accepted. In other words, story grammar strategy can effectively improve the reading comprehension of VIII grade students at SMP Negeri 8 Satap Doda Bunta.

Abstract

This research aimed to find out the effectiveness of using Berlitz method in teaching vocabulary in terms of noun and verb at first year of SMA PGRI Sungguminasa. The researcher applied experimental method with one group pretest-posttest design. One group was pretested (O1), exposed to a treatment (X) and post-tested (O2). The researcher conducted the treatment in six times meetings. It employed vocabulary test as instrument. The subject of the research were 21 students in XIPS class.The result of statistical analysis of t-test with degree of freedom (df) = n-1, where n=21, (df=20) at the level of significance 0.05 indicated that there was a significance differences between the mean score of the post-test and pre-test. The mean score of pre-test was 30.53 and the mean score of post-test was 56.36. thus, the null hypothesis (H0) was rejected, while alternative hypothesis (H1) was accepted. Therefore, the hypothesis of the research states that There is a significant difference between the students’ vocabulary mastery after using Berlitz method at the first grade of SMA PGRI Sungguminasa in academic year 0f 2014.

Abstract

This research aims to find out whether diary activities can improve students’ writing skill or not. This research is also quantitative research using quasi experimental research design with non-equivalent control group design. The population of this research was student of SMPN 1 Luwuk grade VIII. The sample of this research was 50 students, 25 students from class VIIIa (experimental class) and 25 students from class VIIIb (controlled class). The instrument of this research was test, where it was divided into pre-test and post-test. Treatment was given after giving pre-test in experimental class for about six meetings. Five aspects were assessed in order to find out the result. They are content, organization, vocabulary, language use and mechanism. The result of shows that the t-test of 73.9644 was higher than the t-table of 1.6772 with a significance level of 0.05 with 48 degrees of freedom. Therefore, the hypothesis of “Diary writing can improve the writing skills of the eighth grade students of SMPN 1 Luwuk” is accepted. In conclusion, diary activities can be used to improve students’ writing skill at SMPN 1 Luwuk significantly.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the improvement of students' ability in writing descriptive text using YouTube media. The research was conducted from August to September 2021 on first-grade students of SMAN 3 Bunta. This research is quantitative research with 29 students of class X MIA SMAN 3 Bunta as research subjects. In searching for research data, a written test was used which contained pre-test and post-test. The instrument is given to find out how far the students' writing ability is before and before the test. The results showed that the t-count was 5.825. Therefore, the t-table with a one-tailed significance value is 0.05, and it is found that the t-table is 1.701. This shows that the t-count is higher than the t-table. In other words, there was a significant improvement in students' writing ability after using YouTube. Therefore, this research hypothesis can be accepted. The mean pre-test score was 53.17 and the mean post-test was 68.31. This means that the average score of students is increased by 15.14. Thus, the results of the study conclude that using YouTube can improve students' ability in writing descriptive text at SMAN 3 Bunta.
