Abstract

Quality of voltage stability both in industrial and residence electricity services really becomes a continuity and reliability system demand. But high industrial load, such as motor, welding machine, electric furnace, other high power supply make a flicker or even a voltage dip. The dip affects not only the user, but also the the distribution network, with the result that disturbs other users on the outside of the area. A method decreasing the dip effect is by using voltage compensator, which is a volt ampere rective compensation (VAR-Compensation) injected to load in parallel network.In this paper, VAR on motor load will be investigated. The compensator consists of a capacitor bank A with full of charge in the beginning condition as a compensator and a capacitor bank B with no charge in the beginning condition as a dummy load. The compensator is expected working while before the system is back to normal condition (stable) that is done by either AVR or the generator governor. For example, a high power motor is connected to the network. In the network, ther will be a voltage dip. If in conjunction with the motor to be attached along with the interlinked network of capacitor A and the capacitor A is off again after the normal voltage. Similarly, when the release of the motor, also comes with the inclusion of capacitor B to the network and capacitor B is off again after a normal system voltage.Actually, this compensation method applies past method, for example SVC (Static VAR Compensation). VAR value calculation which is appropriate with starting power motor becomes an attention in this paper. This paper is fully new which is idea and logic.

Abstract

Mobile Ad-Hoc Network (MANET) is the type of network that can connect people without depending on fixed infrastructure. Dynamic topology that characterizes this network leads to different routing process compared to wired-network with fixed topology. The two main classes of routing protocols for mobile ad-hoc networks (MANETs) are proactive and reactive (or on-demand). Reactive routing protocols consume less bandwidth compared to proactive routing protocols because they establish the route on demand. This thesis presents the simulation results and performance analysis of reactive routing protocol Dynamic Source Routing (DSR) and Ad Hoc On-demand distance Vector Routing (AODV). The analysis is based on packet delivery ratio, routing overhead, average delay, and averagethroughput by varying the number of nodes and speed of nodes. The simulation is performed using NS2 network simulator. The results show that AODV outperforms DSR in more stress situations, however DSR outperforms AODV in less stressful situations (smaller number of nodes and lower speed of nodes). DSR produces higher delay in all scenarios, therefore this protocol not recommended for MANET with the need for low delay.

Abstract

WMN merupakan model jaringan komunikasi yang menggabungkan teknologi wireless dan routing ad-hoc yang membentuk sebuah topologi mesh. Optimized Link State Routing Protocol (OLSR) merupakan salah satu routing protocol yang digunakan untuk jaringan ad-hoc agar setiap wireless router yang terhubung dalam jaringan dapat melakukan komunikasi dan menghasilkan jaringan dengan jangkauan yang luas. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah melakukan analisis terhadap kinerja yang dihasilkan oleh testbed WMN dengan menggunakan routing protocol OLSR.Untuk mengetahui kinerja dari WMN, dilakukan pengukuran parameter throughput, latency, jitter, dan packet loss pada tesbed WMN yang dibangun menggunakan lima buah wireless router Linksys WRT54GL dengan firmware OpenWRT Freifunk pada lantai 1 Gedung KPTU Fakultas Teknik, Universitas Gadjah Mada.Hasil analisis pada testbed WMN tersebut adalah sebagai berikut; nilai throughput pada singlehop 988.48 Kbps dan pada multihop 78.952 Kbps, nilai latency berkisar antara 0.5 ms – 7.15 ms, nilai jitter pada singlehop 16.3931 ms dan pada multihop 105.5513 ms, nilai packet loss pada singlehop 2.06 % dan pada multihop 33.3 %.

Abstract

The growth of current wireless networks has increased rapidly. The growth of information technology and telecommunications technology requires interoperability, joint regulation and various solutions to solve the increasingly complex problems, such as computer network security issues on wireless networks. An evaluation is needed to maintain and re-assess the stability of the network to remain adequate. This research resulted a model as a result of evaluation that can be used as a useful recommendations to improve the security of a wireless computer network access which affects the performance on the network at the Headquarters of Engineering Faculty of Gadjah Mada University.

Abstract

With the increasing of advanced and sophisticated computer technology currently, especially for PC and server, is marked by the appearance of dual core processor, quad core processor, even hexa core processor. Besides all applications currently, especially not 3D animation and games which utilize the maximum performance of the multicore processor, makes the advanced processor work with a low utilization rate or a little usage of this processor. The advanced processor can be used for running application and services virtually.Virtualization can be seen as a part of whole IT company trend currently. Day by day the virtualization engineering become more popular and widely used because in addition tosaving the power source, it can have a good performance at running various server services in a network. Even nowadays virtualization can run on a cluster infrastructure, which will produce HA (High Availability) server.By using applications, such as VirtualBox and Proxmox, which are very powerful tools, easily-setting and especially free, virtual appliances can be made including functions and services of a server in the real network. It aims to prove how effective and efficient the usage of the multicore processor computer is.

Abstract

One of the primary danger that is made by Meraapi mountain volcanic activity is pyroclastic flow which move fast and consists of gas that has a high temperature, volcanic ash and rock. This flow can move quickly down the mountain with a very high temperature. Merapi mountain natural conditions cause difficulties in visual monitoring of pyroclastic flow, whereas the usage of seismic equipment needs experts to analyze the data. This causes difficulties for staffs to warn people early, rapidly and precisely. So that, inspections are needed to plan an early pyroclastic flow warning system and be able to give a danger caution.The research devised an early pyroclastic flow warning based on geographical information system by using thermal sensor as a pyroclastic flow detector,this system is expected to give easiness in monitoring the flow and an early warning to people around Merapi mountain so that it can minimalize victims which is caused by pyroclastic flow. The research was done by surveying, observing and interviewing, whereas designing of the software using waterfall methodology or linear sequence model which consisted of analysis, design, implementation, and testing. Infrared thermal sensor using ATMega8535 microcontroller was used for the testing.The result of the research was a prototype of an early volcano pyroclastic flow warning which is based on geographical information system by utilizing thermal sensor as a pyroclastic flow detector. Thermal sensor used for the system is an infrared thermal sensor using microcontroller as an analog to digital converter. The system has facilities to set the sensor location, read the temperature on each sensor, and give n appropriate condition waning.

Abstract

Finite element method (FEM) with hybrid polygonal elements using Wachspress shape functions to analyzethe band gap characteristic of two-dimensional photonic crystals (2D PCs) is presented in this paper. Hybrid polygonal elements are mix elements between polygonal (n>3) and triangular elements. In triangular elements, Wachspress shape function is linear while in polygonal elements, the shape function becomes high order. The performance of the method compared with which of the linear triangular FEM is presented in its convergence rate graph showing the trend of accuracy. The flexibility in meshing using polygonal elements with Wachspress shape function as the interpolation function is also presented. The results show that hybrid polygonal FEM gives better accuracy compared with linear triangular FEM.

Abstract

Human computer interaction has a long history to become more intuitive. For human being, gesture of different kind is one of the most intuitive and common communication. However, vision-based hand gesture recognition is a challenging problem, which are involved complex computation, due to high degree of freedom in humand hand.In this paper we use hand gesture captured by web-cam instead of mice, for natural and intuitive human-computer interaction. Skin detections method is used to create a segmented hand image and to differentiate with the background. A contours and convex hull algorithm is used to recognize hand area as well as the number of finger tip of hand gesture image to be mapped with button. And for moving detection of hand gesture, the Lucas-Kanade pyramidal algorithm were used.The result shows that this system can operate well so we can interact with computer using our hand gesture instead using a mice.

Abstract

Three-phase induction motor is a motor type which is most often encountered in the household and in industry. This is due to the cheap price, easy maintenance and long age. One way to change the speed of three phase induction motor is by changing the number of poles.This research was conducted to determine the characteristic of three-phase induction motor when a change is done either by number of poles loaded and no-load.Characteristics of the motor which want to know are the rotor speed, slip, flow, power, and power factor when th number of stator poles varied.The study was conducted by modifying the number of poles three-phase induction motor squirrel cage. Motor induction of the results of modification has a the number of poles which can be changed so that the motor induction have the the number of poles 2, 4, 8 or 16. Characteristics of induction motor testing is done by changing the number of poles, and then the measurement is done on the velocity of the rotor speed, slip, flow, power, and power factor when th number of stator poles varied.The results showed that three-phase induction motor speed can be varied by changing the number of poles, but their work is less satisfactory in performance as demonstated by large slip of the induction motor, especially with 2 poles, 4 poles and 8 poles.

Abstract

Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) has aweakness that lies at the high power variation. Power variationis stated in peak-to-avarage power ratio (PAPR). PAPR is the ratio between the maximum and average power of OFDM signal at the certain time frame. High PAPR value will result in nonlinear distortion when operating on non linear devices such as high power amplifier (HPA). Therefore, it is necessary to find way to reduce PAPR value. In this paper, we used PAPR reduction simulation using clipping techniques. PAPR reduction is done by clipping of the output signal of IFFT block which has a PAPR value exceeds the clipping level clipping value is determined by the ratio of the test using the clipping ratio is 0.8 and 1.4. Clipping provides complimentary cumulative effect of improving the quality of the distribution function (CCDF) and decreased quality of Bit Error Rate (BER). Finally, the smaller the value of the clipping ratio CCDF quality improvement will be higher and the BER degradation will be even greater.
