Abstract

This research aimed to explore effective cooperative learning strategies for learners with disabilities and identified the challenges teachers face in implementing these strategies in the classroom. A qualitative descriptive approach using a case study design was utilized for data collection, including observations, interviews, and documentation analysis. The collected data was analyzed deductively. The participants of this research were four English teachers and six disabled students of SMAN 4 Banjarbaru, South Kalimantan. The findings of this study revealed that teachers employ various cooperative learning strategies such as NHT (Number Head Together), Jigsaw, Round Robin, and STAD (Student Teams Achievement Divisions) to support students with disabilities. However, teachers encounter specific obstacles in implementing these strategies, including the unique characteristics of each student with a disability, requiring individualized adaptations. This implies that teaching and learning approaches for students with special needs cannot be standardized, and personalized attention and active involvement from both the teacher and other students are crucial for optimal learning outcomes. The study aimed to analyze the needs and motivations of the main character, Tessa, in Netflix's movie The In Between using the hierarchy of needs theory by Abraham Maslow. This study used descriptive qualitative methods to collect, describe, and summarize data. The study's primary goal was to examine how Tessa, the main character in The In Between, illustrates the hierarchy of human needs and motivations. The study focused on the main character's struggle to meet their psychological needs following personal life turmoil. The study's findings indicated that Tessa's character development aligned with Maslow's hierarchy of needs during the movie's narrative. Abstract

The complexity of meaning in advertising involves not only language elements that play a role in conveying meaning but also non-verbal language elements and other visual means. For that reason, a multimodal approach is needed to understand the complexity of meaning. The present article discussed a multimodal analysis of Scarlett's advertising images in collaboration with Song Joong Ki. The study used the analysis by Kress & Van Leeuwen's multimodal concept, which includes three dimensions of meta-functional analysis: representational, interpersonal, and compositional meta-functions. The current research design was qualitative descriptive, where the data were collected through documentation. The data source was a poster on the Instagram feed @scarlett_whitening depicting Song Joong Ki as a brand ambassador. The results showed that Scarlett advertisers aim to attract active consumers on social media through the portrayal of Song Joong Ki in the advertisement. Apart from that, the advertisement also represents a fantasy about a brightening and moisturizing body serum. Keywords: multimodality, social semiotics, advertising, Scarlett, Song Joong Ki

Abstract

This study aimed to explore the challenges faced by students in creative writing. A qualitative narrative approach was employed, gathering data through open-ended questionnaires and transcription. The narratives in this study were collected from seven English teachers from seven different schools in Bone Regency, South Sulawesi Province. The data was analyzed using the constant comparative method. The primary difficulties encountered by students include a limited vocabulary, student motivation, and a lack of ideas for writing. Teachers provided solutions such as supplying related vocabulary pertinent to the theme, giving students a foundation to build upon. Additionally, assigning writing themes related to the student’s immediate environment was found to stimulate their exploration and creativity. The study reveals that students’ challenges in creative writing are predominantly rooted in linguistic limitations, motivation, and a lack of ideas. The implications suggest a need for integrating targeted vocabulary development and contextually relevant themes in creative writing curricula, emphasizing the importance of aligning teaching strategies with students’ linguistic abilities and environmental experiences. Keywords: creative writing, student challenges, teacher narratives
