Abstract

Reporting adverse drug reactions is an important part of pharmacovigilance, involving healthcare workers in reporting adverse drug events to detect any adverse reactions in drug use. Reporting of adverse drug reactions by healthcare workers in Indonesia is still relatively low, so technical guidance is needed for healthcare workers in healthcare facilities to improve their knowledge and awareness in reporting adverse drug reactions. The activity was attended by 45 healthcare workers from community health centers and hospitals in the North Sulawesi region. The implementation was carried out in a hybrid manner, with face-to-face meetings and online via the Zoom meeting platform. Materials covered the importance of pharmacovigilance and understanding of adverse drug reactions (KTD/ESO) for healthcare workers, the application of pharmacovigilance in reporting adverse drug reactions in healthcare facilities, and the practice of inputting adverse drug reactions into the e-meso application. The average pretest score of participants was 74.4, reflecting a fairly good level of initial understanding. After receiving the educational materials, the average posttest score increased to 95.6, indicating a significant increase in participants' understanding of pharmacovigilance material. The average score difference (gain) reached 21.1 points, indicating a positive impact of this activity on increasing participants' knowledge. A further impact of this activity was an increase in the number of reports of drug side effects from healthcare workers who participated in the technical guidance.

Abstract

Abstract

The SIAGA UKS community service programme aims to improve the quality of school health facility management through education on standardising the contents of first-aid kits, a medicines management system to prevent expiry, and the enhancement of practical skills among UKS staff. The activity took place in May 2026 at SMAN 8 Samarinda with 32 Year 10 pupils participating. The methods used included interactive lectures using PowerPoint presentations, hands-on demonstrations of the use of portable diagnostic test kits, and assessment via pre-tests and post-tests. The results of the activity showed a significant improvement in the students’ understanding, with all participants (100 per cent) able to answer the post-test questions correctly, particularly regarding the indicator for restricted-use medicines. The independent demonstration sessions successfully boosted the students’ confidence in using medical equipment hygienically. A continuous education programme is recommended to maintain first-aid readiness in schools.

Abstract

Superficial fungal infections remain a significant public health concern in tropical countries, including Indonesia. High humidity, intense physical activity, and inadequate personal hygiene increase the risk of fungal colonization on the skin, particularly in the interdigital spaces of the hands. Community education integrated with laboratory examination represents an effective preventive strategy to improve public awareness while enabling early detection of fungal colonization. This community service program aimed to improve participants' knowledge regarding the prevention of superficial fungal infections and to identify fungal colonization through interdigital hand swab examination. The activity was conducted at Yonif Kodam V/Brawijaya, Surabaya, in collaboration with the Bonek Bonita Surabaya community, involving 25 participants. Health education was delivered through interactive lectures and discussions covering risk factors, transmission, clinical manifestations, and preventive measures. Laboratory examination was performed using Sabouraud Dextrose Agar (SDA) culture followed by microscopic identification using 10% potassium hydroxide (KOH) preparation and Lactophenol Cotton Blue (LPCB) staining. Laboratory findings demonstrated fungal growth in 7 participants (28%), whereas 18 participants (72%) showed negative culture results. The isolated fungi were identified as Candida spp. and Aspergillus spp.. The educational intervention successfully enhanced participants' understanding of proper hand hygiene and the importance of early laboratory detection of superficial fungal infections. This collaborative program demonstrates that laboratory-based community education can serve as an effective model for promoting early detection and prevention of superficial fungal infections.

Abstract

The use of essential oils extracted from plants as an alternative treatment is known as essential oils. This method has been proven to provide various health benefits. This collaboration created an integrated essential oils training program that aims to synergize academic knowledge with its application in the business world. This program was held to enrich participants' understanding and skills regarding the basic concepts of herbal business classes, essential oils making practices, and production process observations. Using a one-group pretest-posttest design approach, this activity summarizes the delivery of theoretical material, making essential oils products, and reviewing the production process in the factory. Based on the evaluation results, there was a significant increase in knowledge with an achievement rate of 90.34% in various aspects measured. Overall, this training successfully honed the technical competencies of participants while opening up opportunities for small-scale business startups in the field of essential oils products.
