Abstract

Infection prevention and control is an effort to prevent and minimize the occurrence of infection inpatients, officers, and community around health care facilities; through cleaning and disinfection of bed surface, bedside equipments and the often-touched bed edges. A preliminary study conducted in Puskesmas Sewon 1 of Bantul found that one intravenous pole had micobrial number of 208,67 colony/cm2 and had never disinfected. Nonetheless, chemical disinfectants usually leave residues. The safer with no-residue disinfectant is the vegetable-based ones, and one of the example is coriander. This research was a true experiment with pre-test post-test with control group design. The disinfectant used was coriander stew water with three various concentrations, i.e. 10 %, 20 % and 30 %, which were applied to eight intravenous poles. The data were analysed by one way anova test at 5 % level of significance. Descriptively, the average decrease ofbacteria number from 10 % concentration was 43,15 colony/cm2 (69,7%), from 20 % concentration was 65,87 colony/cm2 (40,3 %), from 30 % concentration was 50 colonies/cm2 (46,1 %), and from the control group was 38,94 colonies/cm2 (61,69 %). However, the p-value yielded from the statistical analysis was 0,525 which means that those bacteria number reduction of intravenous pole from the various concentration of coriander stew water disinfectant are not significantly differrent.

Abstract

Waste sorting has to be implemented at initial waste generators/producers, including schools, such as islamic boarding school (IBS) or pesantren. Most of students in Krapyak IBS have low knowledge and inappropriate practice of waste sorting. One of the efforts to overcome this problem is by conducting health promotion. This research was aimed to know the effect of sortingcard game as the media of health promotion towards Krapyak IBS students’ knowledge and practice on waste sorting. The study was a quasi-experiment with non-equivalent control groupdesign. The study subjects were 52 students aged 13-18 years old. They were divided into 2 groups, i.e. 26 were assingned into treatment group and the other 26 into the control group. Statistical analysis by using independent t-test and Mann-Whitney at ?=0,05 show that the knowledge and practice scores between pre-test and post-test are statistically significant (the obtained p-values were 0,043 and 0,040, respectively). By using sorting card game, students’ knowledgeincreased 55,14 % and the practice increased 67,23 %.

Abstract

Pb pollution is harmful for human health. The monitoring results of Pb air ambient measurementby the Environment Agency of Yogyakarta City in 2016 showed that at five measurement points the Pb exceeded the threshold regulated by the Decree of Yogyakarta Province Governor No. 153 in 2002, i.e. 2 ?g/m3 secondary quality standard 1,500 ?g/m3. The purpose of this study was to know the effect of Sansevieria trifasciata on decreasing Pb levels in air. This research was a quasi-experiment with control time series design. There were three time exposure variation of Sansevieria trifasciata, namely 30 minutes, 60 minutes and 90 minutes, in five replications. The research employed special designed glass box to input the pollutant emission from vehicle. The study results show that 30 minute exposure of Sansevieria trifasciata can decrease Pb from pretest measurement of 829,64 ?g/m3to 269,6 ?g/m3 (30,56 %), 60 minutes exposure decreased to 346,22 ?g/m3 (41,70 %) and 90 minutes ex-posure decreased to 368,16 ?g/m3 (44,63 %).

Abstract

Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) is a health problems that tends to increase, in terms of the case number and the spread. Elementary school students are the vulnerable groups for this disease. Therefore, health education to uplevel their knowledge about the eradication of Aedes’ breeding places should be conducted. One of the methods is through traditional games as the media. The purpose of this research was to know the effect of Engklek game and lecture on the knowledge level of preventing DHF among students of Krekah Elementary School of Bantul. Thestudy was a quasi experiment with non-equivalent control group design. The study subjects were 82 students of IV grade, who were assigned into 2 groups, i.e. 41 as the experiment group and 41 as the control group. The data were analyzed by using Mann-Whitney test at 0,05 level of significance. Results of the study show that Engklek game as health education media is significantly able to improve students’ knowledge (p-value = 0,001), i.e. about 18 %.

Abstract

One of compulsory chemical parameters of water for sanitation and hygiene needs is hardness (CaCO3). One method to reduce water hardness is by ion exchanging This study used natural zeolite from Gedang Sari, Gunung Kidul; bentonit from Nanggulan, Kulon Progo, and zeolite from a chemical store. The study was a true experiment with one group pre-test post-test design, and was conducted in June and July 2018. The hard water samples were taken from Wonotawang Village RT 11 of Bangunjiwo, Kasihan, Bantul. The water treament were held in nine replications. The data were analyzed by using one way analysis of variance at 95 % confidence level.Descriptively, the average of hardness reduction yielded from Gunung Kidul’s zeolites was 50,90 %, from Kulon Progo’s Bentonite was 66,11 %, and from zeolite of chemical store was 56,19 %. Statistical analysis produced a p-value of 0,037 which means that in filtration process the three medias have significant different ability in reducing water hardness.

Abstract

Flies are mechanical vectors which can transmit diseases. The aim of the study was to identify various fly and intestinal parasite species in the settlements near Talang Gulo waste final disposal site of Jambi in 2018. The study method is analytical descriptive analytic with observational and cross sectional approaches. The study results show that the species of the caught flies are: small house flies (Fannia spp) 6.3 %, meat flies (Sarcophaga spp) 6.3 %, green flies(Calliphoridae) 15.6 %, and house flies (Musca domestica) 71.9 %. The fly density was measured as much as 16, which is categorised as high (density between 6-20). In the active zone of Talang Gulo, at the third point, two fly species was found carrying intestinal parasites Ascaris lumbricoides, i.e. Musca domestica (19 %) and Chrysomya megacephala (1 %). Those intestinal parasites were only found in garbage in the active zone at point one, point two and point three (25 %). Based on the study results, the garbage officers of Talang Gulo are recommended to wear gloves to prevent contamination from Ascaris lumbricoides’s eggs. Fly control at the wastesite should be also in concern, particularly in the nearby settlements.

Abstract

Health service facilities need to be monitored in order to prevent the nosocomial infections, especially from the high amount of air microbe. Therefore, disinfection effort is needed. One of natural disinfectant substances is lime peels which contain flavonoid as anti-bacteria. The aim of the study was to identify the influence of the use of lime (Citrus aurantifolia) peels extract on various exposure distances toward the decrease air microbe in Puskesmas Sewon II, Bantul. The study was a pre-test post-test group designed experiment and was conducted in May and June 2018. The disinfections were attached to a modified wall fan. The data were analysed by using paired t-test and one way anova at 95 % level of significance. The reduction of air microbe number were measured at three exposure distances. i.e.1,4 m, 2,8 m, and 4,2 m from the fan. Each distance consisted of three sampling collection points. Descriptively, the highest reduction of airmicrobe was identified in 2,8 m, i.e. 63,42 %, and the lowest one was found in 1,4 m distance, i.e. 52,7 %. The result of paired t-test analysis show that only at point F (2,8 m) and point H (4,2 m) the use of lime peels extract affecting the reduction of air microbe (the association p-values gained were 0,009 and 0,045 respectively). In genereal, the results of one way anova test show that the air microbe reduction among the three exposure distance are not significantly different (p-value = 0,496).
