Abstract

The development of contemporary church music often shifts attention away from the quality of liturgical vocals, particularly in the ministry of singing carried out by cantors/psalmists and choirs who lead the congregation. Yet, excellent vocal technique is a crucial element for leading the congregation in prayer and conveying the liturgical message with reverence. This research aims to examine the implementation of classical (seriosa) vocal technique within the context of worship, focusing on its function in enhancing the musical quality and spirituality of the liturgy. The research method used is descriptive qualitative with a library research approach. This approach was chosen because the study focuses on the exploration, analysis, and conceptual synthesis needed to answer theoretical-explanatory research questions regarding the integration of seriosa vocal technique into the liturgical realm. The research results indicate that the application of seriosa principles (such as diaphragmatic breathing, voice formation, articulation, and clear phrasing) significantly improves the clarity, projection, stability, and prayerful quality of liturgical singing. However, its implementation faces challenges such as the lack of specialized vocal training for liturgical ministers and the need to adapt the technique to remain flexible and not overly operatic. The research conclusion underscores that seriosa vocal technique is not merely an artistic achievement but an effective pastoral tool for supporting the congregation's actuosa participatio. The implication is the necessity of integrating contextual seriosa-based vocal training into the formation of future priests, religious figures, and leaders of liturgical music.

Abstract

This study examines the collaboration between choirs and music ensembles in worship at the Ebenhaezer Sentani GKI Church, which is understood as an essential part of the church's liturgical structure. This study aims to identify the artistic characteristics of this collaboration, evaluate its alignment with liturgical needs, and interpret its meaning for music ministers and congregations. The research applies a qualitative approach with a phenomenological design. Data were obtained through semi-structured interviews, observations of the rehearsal process and worship implementation, as well as documentation review in the form of scores and recordings. The research informants consisted of the conductor, choir members, ensemble players, pastors, council, and congregation. Data analysis was carried out through the stages of reduction, presentation, and systematic conclusion drawing using triangulation to ensure the validity of the findings. The findings show that musical collaboration is designed and implemented in a structured manner in worship services. The arrangement of tempo, dynamics, harmony, and rhythm is directed to support liturgical meaning while encouraging congregational participation. The role of the conductor is central in maintaining artistic unity and coordination of the service. Overall, this collaboration contributes to strengthening the atmosphere of worship, fostering solidarity among music ministers, and reinforcing the identity and spiritual experience of the congregation.

Abstract

This paper discusses the theological meaning of Jesus' prayer in John 17:20-23. The main focus of this prayer is Jesus' request that His followers live in unity as the unity between Jesus and the Father. This study aims to analyze the message of unity contained in John 17:20-23 through a critical hermeneutical approach supported by various literary sources. The results of this study indicate that the unity referred to by Jesus is not only spiritual and internal among the disciples, but also has a public dimension of unity, where unity reflects love rooted in the relationship between the Father and the Son. A critical hermeneutical study of John 17:20-23 shows that Jesus' prayer regarding the unity of the disciples emphasizes that the unity of believers is a sign of God's presence and a means for the world to recognize that the world is sent by the Father. In the context of interfaith life in Indonesia, the unity taught by Jesus becomes the basis for Christians to build a dialogical attitude, tolerance, and respect for differences in interfaith life. Thus, this study seeks to contribute theological thought regarding the importance of Christians being peacemakers, maintainers of harmony, and playing an active role in creating a harmonious social life in a pluralistic society.
