Abstract

This study aimed to find methodologies of translation and interpretation of The Message of the Qur`ān and the contribution of The Message of the Qur`ān to the development of the study of the Qur`ān. This study is library research with the inferential-descriptive method using historical, linguistic, and philosophical approaches. The primary data of this research is the translation and interpretation of the Qur`ān in The Message of the Qur`ān. The study shows that the type of translation of the book is tafsiriyyah translation with grouping some verses based on the small themes in the surah (munasabah). Asad interpreted the Qur`ān using the sequence of surah (tartib mushafi), with the analytical method (tahlili) and the style of adabi ijtima’i. The sources of his interpretation include the Qur`ān itself, the Hadis, the interpretation from the earlier scholars, asbab al-nuzul, sirah, dictionaries both Arabic and English, Bible, and the contemporary scientific theories. Through his work, Asad not only presented the translation with a strong linguistic study, but also enlivened the study on the Qur`ān studies, such as muhkam-mutasyabih, nasikh-mansukh, and the stories in the Qur`ān. The Message of the Qur’an has been written in the contemporary method and become one of the comprehensive English translations of the Qur`ān for Muslims today.

Abstract

Muhkam science and mutasyabbih are the results of human construction. Its existence is clearly not absolutely true. As a science, muhkam and mutasyabbih are always open to all developments. This research - using Thomas Kuhn's shifting paradigm framework - analyzes the direction of the development of muhkam-mutasyabbih science starting from normal science, anomaly/crisis, and new paradigm. From this analysis, the answer is obtained that the construction of muhkam-mutasyabbih (normal science) is based on the textuality of the verse. This construction experiences anomaly and even crisis when dealing with maqashidul Qur'an, because by relying solely on verse textuality, there is often a counterproductive product between interpretation based on muhkam science and mutasyabbih with the maqashidul Qur'an itself. Here a new paradigm is born, value-based muhkam-mutasyabbih; muhkam is fundamental and universal values (ushul Al-Qur'an), while mutasyabbih are implementational values that are local-temporal (furu 'Al-Qur'an).

Abstract

Lately, the concept of the methodology of interpreting the texts of the Qur’an is not only struggling from the history of the Companions and the Tabi'in but in understanding the Word of God it is necessary to have dialectics with the interpretation of the text with the term hermeneutics. Some contemporary interpretations make a new study of the Qur’an using the hermeneutic approach. Specifically, this paper seeks to contribute to providing concepts related to hermeneutics as a textual interpretation methodology. There are some things that are very urgent to be studied in this discussion, including, First, hermeneutics as a dialectic of text interpretation. Second, the methodology of the hermeneutic approach in understanding texts. Third, the application of hermeneutics as a text interpretation. Thus, the concept of hermeneutics in the texts is to find the Qur'anic values contextually behind the meaning of the text of the verse.

Abstract

Deliberation is part of the teachings of Islam that already exist and are practiced by the Prophet Muhammad and his companions. The order to carry out this meeting is found in the Asy-Syuraa verse 38 and Ali Imran verse 159. Allah gives more attention to this deliberation, namely by giving the name Ash-Shura (deliberation) in one of the letters in the Qur'an. This proves the importance of deliberation in overcoming every issue of life. But not all life problems become objects or fields of deliberation. Only matters relating to social affairs can be used as objects of deliberation, while the affairs of Religion, which already have a text in the Qur'an, cannot be used as objects of deliberation. In this article, the author will explain the interpretations of Al-Maragi, Al-Baghawi, and Ibn Kathir on the verse about deliberation, then show the similarities and differences between the three.

Abstract

This article aims to discuss the symbolization of colors in the Qur'an. In the article, the symbolism of colors in the Qur'an is discussed using the thematic interpretation theory pioneered by Abdul Hay al-Farmawi. Through this thematic interpretation, theory found 6 colors found in the Koran, namely red, yellow, green, blue, black, and white scattered in 33 ayat contained in 22 surahs by mapping the results of research using thematic analysis techniques. The results of color research in the Qur'an are expressions that are marked with color in various forms of lafadz as a symbol to describe certain objects in a situation, situation, place, and nature of the object. First, read as a symbol of the beauty of nature. Second, yellow is a symbol of the image of humans in the world. Third, green is a symbol of fertile earth. Fourth, blue as a symbol of the human condition on the Day of Judgment. Fifth, black is a symbol of human images on the Day of Judgment. Sixth, white is a symbol of a human image when in heaven. The existence of this article shows that color is a simple but meaningful symbol hidden in the Qur'an which needs to be studied.

Abstract

Al-Qur’an is the text that contains i’jāz. However, there are disagreements about i’jāz criteria. Some people think that i’jāz is outside the text, while others assume i’jāz is in the Qur’an itself. One of the scholars who agreed that i’jāz al-Qur'an is in the text of the Qur’an is Abd al-Qāhir al-Jurjānī. However, al-Jurjānī’s explanation explaining this problem is still widely misunderstood and sometimes directs understanding of the irrational aspects. This study aims to find the reasoning i’jāz al-Qur’an according to al-Jurjānī by using the linguistic relativity approach. This study found that the problem of i’jāz al-Qur’an according to al-Jurjānī lies in the aspect of the language structure (al-naẓm) which covers the whole concept contained in the language convention. With the form of i’jāz in the form of this language allows the inability of other people to make the same thing that becomes the sign i’jāz can be explained through the concept of language relativity. Therefore, al-Qur’an as when Allah made it has a special reality that excels every human language.

Abstract

This article aims to examine the influence of the practice of the grave pilgrimage to the tomb of KH. Munawir Krapyak on the memorization of students. Pilgrimage to KH. Munawir was not only done to visit the grave but to memorize the Qur'an. Using the living Qur'an theory, this article shows that the pilgrimage practice can have an impact on the recitation of the Qur'an. First, memorization tends to be easier and faster to enter the brain when compared to memorization, not in the tomb. Second, because KH. M. Munawwir is a religious symbol, he is seen as a supervisor who accompanies the process of memorizing the Al-Qur'an. Third, the continuity of the transmission of the sanad Al-Qur'an until it reaches the Prophet Muhammad

Abstract

In this most recent era, sexuality has found a new form that is inseparable from the sophistication of technology that shapes the face of sexual digitalization / digisexuality. This research seeks to describe Al-Qur'an's view of digital behavior from the perspective of Maqashid Syari'ah Al-Ghazali. This research was conducted using qualitative methods and taking data from various literature (library research). In this study, the writer used the theory of maqāṣīd al-syarī'ah which was initiated by Al-Ghazali to analyze the verses about sexuality to obtain Al-Qur'an's view on digisexuality. The results of this study indicate that digital behavior when viewed from the aspects of Maqashid Al-Syar'ah, including protection of the soul, mind, religion, descent, and property has many shortcomings and does not achieve the purpose of sexuality by the guidance of the Al-Qur'an.

Abstract

This paper discusses the qur’anic concept about an atrocity that imagined in lafadz fahsyā’, in which in the view of some people, the atrocity still confused in definition and understanding with some closest lafadzs, and frequency caused the confusion in definition and misleading of concepts. Al-Qur’an still guides the people not to be trapped in atrocity behavior for themselves and their circles. Al-Qur’an uses the lafadz fahsyā’to refer to all shapes of action, expression, and mind that pass the border of a corridor in syariat. But on another side, al-Qur’an also uses the lafadz fāhisyah, fawāhisy, zina, khabis, munkar, or some closest lafadzs to refers to all action pass the limit, and this is seen as contradictive and ambiguous. Abstract

As the times and advances in human civilization, the noble values of culture began to be forgotten by the current generation. Sipakatau culture has become one of the cultures that is almost forgotten by Bugis humans. The term sipakatau which means "humanizing each other", seems to be a daily verbal expression that is often heard, but far from comprehension and practice. The challenge for every nation in the world is how the noble values that have taken root in the cultural lives of the ancients can be maintained and actualized by keeping abreast of increasingly rapid times. Sipakatau culture is not something new in Islam. Sipakatau is a noble character that can also be found in the verses of the Qur'an. This type of research is field research that uses two kinds of data sources, namely primary and secondary sources. Data collection methods used were observation, interviews, and documentation using interpretive, phenomenological, and sociological approaches. The embodiment of civil servants is distinguished from civil servants in the family and civil servants. The whole form is in the form of manner and speech with courtesy as a form of appreciation to man himself and to Allah as the creator of man.
