Abstract

The Pantoloan Community Health Center (Puskesmas) in Palu City was severely affected by the 2018 earthquake and tsunami. The resulting damage to many health facilities limited access to vital reproductive health services. Furthermore, significant gaps persisted in adolescents' knowledge and understanding of how to maintain their reproductive health during emergency situations. This quantitative study was designed to evaluate the effectiveness of reproductive health education in improving adolescent disaster preparedness. The research employed a quasi-experimental design using the Pretest-Posttest Group Design method. The target population consisted of all Middle Adolescents (aged 13-18 years) residing in the Pantoloan Community Health Center area, totaling approximately 561 individuals.Cluster Random Sampling was used as the sampling technique, with clusters established at each adolescent health post (Posyandu). The final sample size was 68 adolescents.Data analysis included univariate and bivariate methods. Statistical tests used were the independent sample t-test if data were normally distributed, and the Wilcoxon test if data were not normally distributed. The study results indicated a difference in the average adolescent knowledge, with an average increase of 1.93 following the provision of reproductive health education. Similarly, the average preparedness of adolescents showed a difference, with an average increase of 3.96 after the education. The statistical test results revealed that the $p$-value for both the knowledge and preparedness variables was 0.000. Based on these findings, it is concluded that reproductive health education is effective in increasing adolescent knowledge and preparedness for when disasters occur in the Pantoloan Community Health Center Working Area.

Abstract

Hypertension is a multifactorial disease with a significant contribution to global cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. In addition to environmental factors, genetic aspects are known to play an important role in the pathogenesis of essential hypertension. One of the most extensively studied candidate genes is the angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) gene, particularly the insertion/deletion (I/ccD) polymorphism in intron 16. This article aims to systematically review the scientific evidence regarding the association between ACE gene polymorphism and the occurrence of hypertension. A literature search was conducted through various international scientific publications addressing the biological mechanisms of ACE, the distribution of I/D genotypes, and their association with hypertension risk across different populations. The review findings indicate that the deletion (D) allele is associated with increased plasma and tissue ACE activity, leading to elevated production of angiotensin II and enhanced degradation of bradykinin, thereby contributing to vasoconstriction and increased blood pressure. Several observational studies and meta-analyses report that the DD genotype or the presence of the D allele is associated with an increased risk of essential hypertension in various ethnic groups, although inconsistencies in results across populations have been observed. Differences in genetic background, environmental factors, and research methodologies are thought to influence these variations. Overall, ACE gene polymorphism, particularly the I/D variant, plays an important role in the pathophysiology of hypertension and has the potential to serve as a basis for the development of genetic-based predictive and therapeutic approaches in the future.

Abstract

Low-fat enteral nutrition is an essential component of hospital nutritional support for patients with fat intolerance, hepatobiliary and pancreatic disorders, and post operative conditions. Nevertheless, standard hospital formulas frequently present limitations in nutritional adequacy, physical properties particularly texture and sensory acceptability. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of varying concentrations of pumpkin flour and soybean flour on the nutritional composition, viscosity, flow rate, and sensory acceptability of a low-fat enteral nutrition formula. A quasi experimental study employing a post-test-only control group design was conducted by comparing a standard hospital formula (F0) with two modified formulations (F1 and F2). The study was performed from October to December 2025 at RSUD Gambiran Kediri and the Integrated Laboratory of Poltekkes Kemenkes Malang. Hedonic testing involved 20 nutrition students using a 4-point hedonic scale. Nutritional composition was calculated based on the Indonesian Food Composition Table. Sensory data were analyzed using the Kruskal Wallis and Mann Whitney U tests, while flow rate was assessed using one-way ANOVA. The findings indicated that the modified formulations significantly increased energy and protein content compared with the standard formula while maintaining low fat levels. Formula F2 exhibited the most favorable physical characteristics, with a flow rate of 5.14 cc/s and a viscosity of 427.5 cP, and achieved the highest acceptance scores for taste and color (p < 0.05). All formulations complied with hospital food service budget standards. Therefore, F2 demonstrates strong potential as a nutritionally adequate and acceptable alternative low-fat enteral formula.

Abstract

Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is a global health problem frequently associated with diabetes mellitus and obesity. This condition increases the risk of renal dysfunction and liver fibrosis progression, highlighting the need for comprehensive therapeutic strategies. This study aimed to evaluate the medium-term effects of SGLT2 inhibitors on renal function and fibrosis progression in patients with NAFLD and metabolic diseases. This study employed a brief systematic review approach by analyzing relevant national and international scientific articles. Literature selection was conducted systematically based on predefined inclusion and exclusion criteria. The findings demonstrated that SGLT2 inhibitors were associated with improved or stabilized renal function, particularly in estimated glomerular filtration rate and albuminuria parameters. Moreover, most studies reported improvements in non-invasive fibrosis indicators and reductions in hepatic steatosis and inflammation. These benefits were closely related to better glycemic control and weight reduction in patients with metabolic comorbidities. In conclusion, SGLT2 inhibitors show potential as an adjuvant therapy in managing NAFLD patients with metabolic diseases by providing combined renal and hepatic protective effects.

Abstract

Hypertension is a non-communicable disease with the most prevalence in the world. In Pelaga Village and Belok Village, 81,92% of the 100% target for hypertension patients undergo regular treatment. In relevance to actualize SDGs goal 3 (good health and well-being), the government program "CERDIK" is carried out as an effort to control and prevent hypertension to increase compliance with taking medication. This study aims to find out the most related component of the "CERDIK" behavior to medication adherence in hypertension patients In Pelaga Village and Belok Village, Badung Regency, Indonesia. This research is an analytical observational cross sectional study involving residents in Bedali Regency, who suffer from hypertension with a large sample of 130. The independent variables are regular health checks, getting rid of cigarette smoke, physical activity, balanced diet, adequate rest, and managing stress using the "CERDIK" behavior questionnaire. The medication adherence variable uses the 8-item Morisky Medication Adherence Scale (MMAS-8) questionnaire. The data obtained were subjected to bivariate analysis using Chi-square test and multivariate analysis using logistic regression with the IBM SPSS v25 application. The results of bivariate analysis found a significant relationship on physical activity, balanced diet, sufficient resting, and stress management towards medication adherence (p-value 0,002; 0,023; <0,001; and 0,025). There was a simultaneous relationship between CERDIK and medication adherence in hypertensive patients, where physical activity and sufficient rest stated as the dominant variables.

Abstract

Older adults are among the most vulnerable populations in disaster situations due to physical, psychological, social, and economic limitations that may exacerbate disaster impacts, including injury, psychological distress, and death. Disasters affect not only the physical safety of older adults but also their emotional and psychological well-being, highlighting the need for disaster management approaches that are sensitive and specialized. This study aimed to explore the needs of older adults in disaster situations. A qualitative study with a phenomenological approach was conducted. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with eight participants who were directly involved in the management and care of older adults during disasters. Data analysis was performed using Colaizzi’s method. The findings revealed four main themes: (1) the need for age-friendly evacuation facilities and infrastructure; (2) limitations in human resources during the evacuation process; (3) the need for health and psychosocial support services, particularly for older adults with cognitive impairments; and (4) the need for institutional and policy support. These findings indicate that the needs of older adults in disaster contexts are multidimensional and interrelated. Therefore, inclusive and integrated disaster management strategies that are oriented toward the specific needs of older adults are essential to enhance their safety, preparedness, and overall well-being during disaster situations.

Abstract

Based on preliminary studies conducted by the author at the Bringin Community Health Center, 35 duplicate outpatient medical records were found in 2020.  The purpose of this study was to identify the factors causing the duplication of outpatient medical record numbers at the Bringin Community Health Center. This study used a qualitative method with a descriptive approach. The sample in this study consisted of 4 medical record officers. The results of the study in February-March 2021 showed that there were two duplicate medical record numbers. The causes of duplicate medical record numbering were based on the 5M aspects (Man, Material, Method, Machine, Money). The man factor was related to the limited number of staff. The material factor was related to patients who did not bring their medical treatment identity card when visiting. The method factor indicates the lack of specific standard operating procedures regarding medical record numbering. The machine factor indicates that the system is still manual. The money factor indicates a lack of funds needed to add medical record staff. The recommendation to the Bringin Community Health Center is to create standard operating procedures for Medical Record Numbering and provide training for staff who are not medical record graduates.

Abstract

The Community Health Center (Puskesmas) serves as a primary healthcare facility that plays a vital role in providing essential health services to the community. However, the frequency of community visits to puskesmas remains varied, and one of the influencing factors is the distance between residence and the healthcare facility. This study aims to determine the relationship between travel distance and the frequency of visits to the puskesmas. This research employed a quantitative method with a correlational analytic design (cross-sectional study). The study was conducted at Bontonompo II involving 90 respondents selected through accidental sampling technique. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire and distance observation. The data were analyzed using univariate analysis to describe respondents’ characteristics and bivariate analysis with the Spearman Rank test at a 0.05 significance level. Statistical test results show a significant relationship between distance traveled and the frequency of visits to community health centers (p < 0.001), with a negative relationship, meaning the longer the distance traveled, the lower the frequency of visits. In conclusion, distance traveled influences the level of utilization of health services at community health centers.

Abstract

The diagnosis of bipolar disorder (BD) in adolescents is often delayed due to reliance on subjective assessments, necessitating objective biomarkers such as C-reactive protein (CRP) to improve clinical accuracy. This systematic review aims to synthesize the latest findings on the role of CRP levels in adolescents with BD through analysis of various experimental studies. The systematic review was conducted in January 2026 through searches in Embase, PubMed, and ScienceDirect for studies from 2016 to 2025. Selection was performed according to PRISMA. Risk of bias was assessed using JBI Critical Appraisal Tools. A total of four experimental studies with a total of 3298 subjects met the criteria with low to moderate risk of bias. CRP levels in adolescents with Bipolar Disorder were found to be significantly elevated compared to the control group, especially during the symptomatic phase and periods of severe symptoms. CRP levels in adolescents with BD were found to be significantly elevated compared to healthy controls (p<0.001) and the anxiety disorder group, especially during the severe symptomatic phase. Additionally, high initial CRP levels significantly predicted longer recovery times (p=0.009). CRP is an effective state-dependent biomarker to support diagnostic accuracy, predict clinical course, and monitor the risk of cognitive decline in adolescents with BD.

Abstract

Sanitation and personal hygiene remain critical public health concerns in rural communities, particularly in relation to health literacy and the adoption of preventive behaviors. This study aimed to analyze the level of understanding of personal hygiene symbols and its association with personal hygiene practices among residents of Desa Pabudunkang, South Bontonompo District, Gowa Regency. A quantitative survey design was employed involving 213 respondents selected through stratified random sampling. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire and analyzed using univariate and bivariate approaches to examine variable distribution and inter-variable relationships. The findings indicate that most respondents demonstrated good comprehension of personal hygiene symbols and consistently practiced hygiene behaviors in daily life. A significant association was identified between symbol comprehension and hygiene practices, suggesting that the ability to interpret visual health messages contributes to the adoption of clean and healthy behaviors. These results highlight the relevance of visual-based health promotion strategies in strengthening hygiene literacy and behavioral outcomes in rural settings. Integrating visual education with environmental support systems may enhance the sustainability of hygiene practices at the community level.
