Abstract

Plastic waste is a problem that must be addressed immediately. The existence of plastic waste is increasing along with the increase in the human population. Plastic waste that is just thrown away will not decompose, but will only shrink into smaller ones through physical or chemical processes. Plastics that shrink into smaller ones are called microplastics and have a size of <1-5 m. Microplastics scattered in the ocean can be accidentally consumed by fish or another marine biota. This is because the size of the microplastics is very small and very similar to their natural prey. As a result, fish and another marine biota mistakenly identify microplastics as prey. This study was conducted to analyze the effect of consuming fish contaminated with microplastics on the health of the human body. This study uses a literature review method, in which literature such as articles published in accredited journals, books, and websites are relevant to the issues to be discussed. Based on the research, it was found that some water and fish in Indonesia have been contaminated by microplastics. Microplastics that enter the human body and other living things cause adverse effects. In humans, microplastics can enter vital organs. Whereas in other living things, especially fish, microplastics can interfere with the digestive system and can even cause death in fish. Therefore, it is necessary to take action to reduce and control the use of plastic.

Abstract

Acute Respiratory Infection (ARI) disease is the biggest health problem that occurs most often in Tarakan City,. This study aims to determine the relationship between parental knowledge about ARI, bedroom occupancy density and smoking activity in the home with the incidence of ARI in children aged less than 12 years in the working area of the Sebengkok Health Center, Tarakan City. This study used a cross sectional design with a sample of 61 respondents selected based on the Simple Random Sampling technique. Methods of data collection using questionnaires and measurement sheets. The results of the analysis using the Fisher's exact test showed that there was no relationship between parental knowledge and the incidence of ARI (p-value = 0.279) and the analysis used the chi-square test, namely that there was no relationship between bedroom occupancy density (p- value = 0.613) and no the relationship between smoking activity in the home (p-value = 0.591) and the incidence of ARI in children aged less than 12 years old in the work area of the Sebengkok Health Center, Tarakan City

Abstract

COVID-19 is a fast-spreading infectious disease. In Indonesia, there are 3,372,374 confirmed positive cases of COVID-19, while in the Riau Islands Province, Karimun Regency, 5,293 cases as of September 2021. Washing hands with soap can prevent transmission of COVID-19 among the community. This study aims to determine the relationship between knowledge and availability of sanitation facilities with handwashing compliance with soap during the COVID-19 pandemic. This study uses a quantitative approach with a cross sectional study design. The number of samples used as many as 62 respondents who were selected using probability sampling technique. The results showed that people who have a good level of compliance (36.6%) good knowledge of (27.4%), availability of good sanitation facilities (37.1%) and a high level of education (69.4%). Based on the results of statistical tests, the relationship between knowledge, availability of sanitation facilities and education level with handwashing compliance with soap each has a p-value of 0.004-0.049 and 0.019 (p<0.005). Knowledge, availability of sanitation facilities and level of education have a significant relationship with handwashing compliance with soap. It is recommended for the entire community of RT 013 to increase knowledge about hand washing with soap in order to improve compliance behavior in washing hands with soap during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Abstract

Abstract

The Kaliotic River is the water that flows in several villages in the Lamongan area. The Kaliotic River is a stream of water that is used as a disposal site for liquid waste left over from agriculture and leftover fish markets. The condition of the Kaliotic river which is used as a garbage disposal site is the basis of this research. This research was conducted with the aim of analyzing the potential of endogenous bacteria in the degradation of Kaliotic river waste. Based on the problems that exist in the Kaliotic river, this research was conducted using a quantitative descriptive method and using a true experimental method. Based on the isolation results, isolates were produced, namely isolates suspected to be ammonia degrading bacteria (bacteria A). Ammonia levels also decreased at point 1 by 17.6%; at the 23.3% point; and at point 3 that is 16.21%. The results of the bacterial potency test using a bacterial isolate concentration of 2% each and 98% water sample and can minimize ammonia compounds but do not comply with quality standards.
