Abstract

Diabetes mellitus is a multifactorial chronic metabolic disorder characterized by increased blood glucose levels due to insufficient insulin production. One of the plants that can be used to reduce blood sugar levels is keduduk leaves (Melastoma malabathricum L.). This study aims to determine the potential of keduduk leaf extract in reducing blood sugar levels in male white rats (Rattus norvegicus) with complications of kidney dysfunction. Methods This study is an experimental study in which rats were induced diabetes using alloxan dose 150 mg/kgBB for 3 days and kidney dysfunction with gentamicin dose 80 mg/kgBB for 7 days. Data were analyzed using Two Way Anova followed by Duncan test. The results showed that the administration of keduduk leaf extract at a dose of 400 mg/kgBB most significantly reduced blood sugar levels in male white rats with complications of kidney dysfunction. The results of creatinine examination after being given the extract showed that there was an effect of kidney complications on the decrease in blood sugar levels in rats, where the decrease in blood sugar levels in the diabetes group with kidney dysfunction complications was smaller than the diabetes group without complications. Keduduk leaf extract can potentially affect kidney function and has adverse side effects, especially on damaged kidney function. Abstract

Technological advancement and globalization have shaped a narrowing standard that society considersgood. This creates social pressure on women, as not meeting beauty standards often leads to issues suchas body shaming. The five Asian countries with the highest prevalence of bullying are Cambodia,Vietnam, Nepal, Pakistan, and Indonesia. Indonesia ranks first with 84% of bullying cases in schools.Forty-one percent of students in Indonesia are victims of harassment, and 22% experience teasing frompeers. Body shaming impacts physical, psychological, and social aspects. It is essential to avoid factorssuch as anxiety because extreme conditions caused by body shaming can lead victims to engage indangerous behaviors like running away, self-harm, or suicide. Objective: to determine the impact of bodyshaming on anxiety levels in adolescents. Method: quantitative research with a cross-sectional design, using a total sampling technique with 50 samples. Analysis using Chi-Square. Results: The Chi-Squaretest for anxiety with body shaming showed a p-value of 0.001 and an alpha of 13.461. Therefore, it can beconcluded that H0 is rejected and Ha is accepted. So, there is a relationship between anxiety and bodyshaming.

Abstract

The irrational use of antibiotics in hospitals can increase bacterial resistance, necessitating monitoring of their usage patterns. This study aims to describe the clinical characteristics of patients and the usage patterns of meropenem and vancomycin antibiotics at Universitas Hasanuddin Hospital. The study employed a retrospective analytical method using secondary data from electronic medical records and antibiotic request forms. The results showed that the majority of meropenem users were adults (61.25%) and the elderly (28.75%), while vancomycin was predominantly used by adult patients. Among meropenem patients, the primary diagnoses were CKD (13.75%) and sepsis (7.5%), whereas vancomycin was mainly prescribed for phlebitis and thrombophlebitis (20%). Therapeutic outcomes indicated that 50% of meropenem patients improved, but 41.25% died, while 60% of vancomycin patients showed improvement. Meropenem was primarily used for empirical therapy (53.75%) for 1–14 days, while vancomycin was mostly used for definitive therapy (80%) with more varied durations, including >14 days (20%). Adverse effects were minimal, with 1 case reported for meropenem (1.25%) and none for vancomycin. This study highlights the importance of rational antibiotic use monitoring to prevent resistance and improve therapeutic effectiveness in hospitals. Keywords: antibiotics, meropenem, vancomycin, bacterial resistance, teaching hospital.

Abstract

Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) is a virus that attacks white blood cells, resulting in a weakened immune system. This makes individuals more susceptible to various infections. HIV remains a significant global public health issue, with an estimated 42.3 million deaths to date. Organizations such as WHO, Global Fund, and UNAIDS have aligned strategies aimed at eliminating the HIV epidemic by 2030, as part of SDG 3.3. This study employs a literature review methodology, using PRISMA and Quality Assessment techniques, focusing on research from 2019 to 2024. The findings highlight several key factors contributing to HIV in children, including vertical transmission, early diagnosis, socio-economic factors, the PMTCT program (Prevention of Mother-to-Child Transmission), and access to healthcare services. Barriers such as distance from healthcare facilities, limited resources, and logistical challenges affect HIV prevention and management in children. Vertical transmission from mother to child, which can occur during pregnancy, childbirth, or breastfeeding, remains the leading cause of HIV in children. A comprehensive approach, including medical interventions, increased awareness, and social support, is essential for significantly reducing HIV incidence in children. Keywords: determinant children, and HIV

Abstract

The ratio of triglycerides to high-density lipoprotein (TG/HDL) is an important indicator in assessing the risk of cardiovascular disease. The intake of nutrients such as fats, carbohydrates, proteins, and PUFAs influences triglyceride and HDL levels in the blood. This study aims to see the relationship between energy intake and nutrients and the TG/HDL ratio in adult women. This cross-sectional study involved 158 adult women aged 25-44 years who were randomly selected, exclusion criteria were pregnant, taking drugs to lower blood cholesterol, and smoking. Energy intake data was collected using the interview method with SQ-FFQ by trained nutritionists and lipid profile data was obtained from blood tests using the spectrophotometer method with results in mg/dl. Blood sampling was carried out in the morning after the respondent fasted for about 10 hours, carried out by experts in the field of medical laboratories. Results of the lipid profile measurement were continued by calculating the TG/HDL ratio and statistical analysis with Spearman correlation. The results showed that 14% (22 people) had a high Triglycerides/HDL ratio value. The average Triglyceride level was 90.84 + 41.83 mg/dl, this value was still within the normal limit, while the average TG level in the group that had a high TG/HDL ratio was obtained with an average TG level of 163.27 + 50.99 mg/dl. Average HDL cholesterol levels were 52.93 + 12.86 mg/dl, and lower HDL levels were obtained in the group with a high TG/HDL ratio. The average energy intake was 124.7%, protein intake was 151.17%, carbohydrate intake was 103.63%, and fat intake was 158.82%. There was no significant correlation between energy intake, protein, carbohydrates, fat, fiber, and PUFA with TG/HDL ratio (p>0.05), but there was a tendency to negatively correlate between intake and TG/HDL ratio. Abstract

The implementation of Electronic Health Records (EHR) is part of the digital transformation of the healthcare system, which requires comprehensive human resource (HR) readiness. This study aims to critically analyze HR readiness for the implementation of EHR at Dr. H. Abdul Moeloek General Hospital by 2025. The method used is qualitative with a descriptive-interpretive approach through in-depth interviews with healthcare workers, medical records staff, and the IT team. Analysis was conducted using thematic techniques based on a critical analysis approach. The results of the study indicate that HR readiness is in a transitional and asymmetrical phase, characterized by disparities in digital competencies, resistance to change, and weak internalization of digital culture. Compared to previous studies, these findings suggest that HR readiness issues are not merely a matter of training but are also related to organizational structure, work culture, and change management. This study concludes that the failure of EMR implementation is likely to occur if digital transformation is not accompanied by human transformation

Abstract

Maternal mental health problems during the perinatal period remain a significant global health concern due to their impact on maternal well-being, pregnancy outcomes, and infant development. Mindfulness-based interventions have increasingly been used as non-pharmacological approaches to improve psychological well-being among pregnant and postpartum women. This systematic review aimed to analyze the effectiveness of mindfulness-based interventions for perinatal maternal mental health. The review used a systematic literature review design with the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) approach. Literature searches were conducted through Google Scholar, ScienceDirect, PubMed, and SpringerLink for articles published from 2021 to April 2026. A total of 13 studies met the inclusion criteria. The reviewed studies mainly consisted of randomized controlled trials evaluating mindfulness counseling, mindfulness-based childbirth and parenting programs, meditation, relaxation techniques, and digital mindfulness interventions. Overall, mindfulness-based interventions demonstrated positive effects in reducing anxiety, depression, stress, pregnancy-related distress, and fear of childbirth. Several studies also reported improvements in emotional well-being, childbirth satisfaction, mindfulness awareness, maternal–fetal attachment, and breastfeeding self-efficacy. Mindfulness-based interventions represent effective complementary approaches for improving perinatal maternal mental health, particularly in reducing psychological distress and enhancing maternal emotional well-being during pregnancy and postpartum.
