Abstract

Introduction : Leprosy is chronic infection caused by Mycobacterium leprae which can cause long-term disability. Paucibacillary (PB) and Multibacillary (MB) leprosy has high prevalence and incidence especially in Madura Island.  One of the factor that influence isgeographical area that can make many patients not covered by health services that provide health facilities and medical professionals. The effect of geographic area to prevalence and incidence of leprosy in Madura Islands has never been studied.Method : Cross-sectional study with secondary data acquired from Health Profile of Sumenep Regency. Sample in this research were collected from data leprosy patien in 2014 – 2018 in Sumenep Regency and Poteran Island that taken by  purposive sampling method. Results : There was comparison between health facilities and health workers in Sumenep and Poteran p=0,000. There was relation between health facilities and MB leprosy prevalence in Poteran 2014-2018 p=0,029. Health facilities and health workers had no relation with incidence and leprosy prevalence in Sumenep p=0,070 and p=0,099.Conclusion : There was relation between health facilities and MB leprosy prevalence in Poteran 2014-2018. There was relation between health workers in MB leprosy prevalence in Poteran Island at 2014-2018. Further research is needed to find other factors which affected on prevalence and incidence of leprosy. Keywords: Leprosy, Geographic Area, Incidence, Prevalence

Abstract

Introduction: Cadmium (Cd) is a toxic heavy metal, and can water soluble. Chronic low-dose exposure of the metal causes disturbances on the respiratory system and kidneys. In adult zebrafish the toxic effect causes hyperplasia gill and necrotic nuclei of kidney cell in adult fish. This research studies the effect of chronic toxicity of CdCl2 on secondary lamella of gills and kidney cell nucleus in zebrafish  exposed to CdCl2 since juvenile phase to adulthood. Methods: Juvenile zebrafish (Danio rerio), age 3 months, were divided into 4 groups, namely the control group, 3 groups receiving CdCl2 dose of 0,5 ppm, 1 ppm, and 1,5 ppm respectively, for 30 days. Hiperplasia secondary lamella of gills and necrotic nuclei of kidney cells were histologically observed. Prior to the observations the gill and kidney were stained by HE. Secondary lamella gill data were tested by One-Way Anova followed by Post Hoc Tests, data of renal proximal tubular cell nuclei necrosis was tested by Kruskal Wallis followed by Mann Whittney test (p <0.05).Results: Exposure to CdCl2 doses of 0,5 ppm, 1 ppm, and 1,5 ppm significantly increased the amount of hyperplasia secondary lamella of the gills by 67%, 78%, and 86% respectively compared to those of the control group. Exposure to CdCl2 doses of 0.5 ppm, 1 ppm, and 1.5 ppm significantly increased the core necrosis of kidney cells nucleus in adult zebrafish 75%, 79%, and 84% compared to the control group. Conclusion: Exposure to CdCl2 doses of 0.5 ppm, 1 ppm, and 1.5 ppm increases the number of hyperplasia secondary lamella of gills and necrotic nuclei of kidney cells adult zebrafish. Keywords: Cadmium chloride (CdCl2), secondary lamella hyperplasia of gills, kidney cell nucleus necrosis, adult zebrafish.

Abstract

Introduction: Incision wound is disorders of skin structure that causes sensory dysfunction and the delay in this process may cause increasing the patient’s morbidity. Some alternative treatment to increase wound healing is by using herb such as Aloe vera. Therefore, the study to know the effect of Aloe vera on wound healing process by measuring the VEGF expression and number of blood vessels is needed.Method: 24 male Wistar rats aged 2-3 months divided into 4 groups, (1). K + (povidone iodine) group, (2). The treatment group given the taste of aloe with 20% concentration (KP1), (3). 40% concentration (KP2) and (3). 80% concentration (KP3) at a dose of 0.5 gr/rat/day topically for 6 days. VEGF expressions are measured using immunohistochemistry (IHK) staining and blood vessels using Hematoxylin Eosin (HE). Data obtained by statistical analysis using SPSS version 17 with a signification level p < 0.05Result: Effect of Aloe vera juice on VEGF expression in KP+, KP1, KP2, KP3 goup were (1.41±1.79), (1.40±2.09), (1.42±1.24), and (1.44±1.52) with signification value (p>0,05). Effect of Aloe vera juice on the number of  blood vessel lumen in KP+, KP1, KP2, KP3 goup were (14.7±4,94), (17.16±4,67), (25.53±5.54), dan (33.9±11.82) with signification value (p<0,05).Conclusion: Aloe vera juice affect on the number of blood vessel lumen. Further research in need to know the active compound in Aloe vera that has wound healing effectKeywords: Incision Wound, Aloe vera L., vascular endoothelial growth factor (VEGF), Blood vessels
