Abstract

The relationship between Christianity and indigenous religion has been going on for a long time, but this relationship is not placed in the discourse of inter-religious relations. This is related to the paradigm and social construction in Christianity which has not fully recognized the indigenous religion as a "religion". By using Paul Knitter's approach to the model of inter-religious dialogue, namely exclusivism, inclusivism, and pluralism, this paper aims to observe and analyze Christian narratives and paradigms on the existence of indigenous religion. The narratives and paradigm will be divided into two parts: exclusivism, and pluralism. On the one hand, In exclusivism, indigenous religion is considered as "animism" and not yet "religious", therefore it needs to be "religiousized", or more specifically "Christianized". On the other hand, pluralism focuses on plurality, equality, and emphasizes inter-subjectivity. The analytical method used is descriptive qualitative, which consists of data reduction, data analysis, and drawing conclusions. The data in this paper are sourced from: first, the results of observations made at the Jemaat GPM Siahari, and the Mausuane tribe settlement, Seram Utara Timur Kobi District, Central Maluku Regency. Second, interviews were conducted with several young Christian generations on the Ambon island. And third, literature. In the end, the results of this study indicate that exclusive narratives of Indigenous religion (Jesus is the only way of salvation and truth, the great commission of Jesus Christ, and ancestral religions are considered to have no religion and do not have a God) still tend to be dominant in the socio-religious scope than pluralist narratives (freedom, and religious pluralism).

Abstract

From the many existing customs, one is very good and shows the sibling relationship between the immigrant community and the indigenous people of Aru. The Aru Islands have long been a place of trade because they have great natural products. Therefore, many immigrants of the Aru island to trade. It creates a sibling relationship between the two tribes. The association is framed in the Jabu-jabu bond. This Jabu relationship is established between 6 villages in the Aru Islands and one of the immigrant tribes. This bond occurs because there is a history, so they always perform traditional rituals every few years. This bond occurs when the Koba gets the Bugis and asks for rice. The Bugis people told them about the place, and during the process of taking their rice, they were helped by people from 3 villages in the Aru Islands. In the city of Dobo the immigrants (BBM and China) are more economically developed than the natives. Therefore, there is a need for a genuine understanding of how indigenous Aru people and immigrants should coexist reasonably and grow together. This research concludes that the immigrant community must respect the indigenous population and vice versa to advance the Aru Islands area. In addition to maintaining relationships with others, awareness to protect the environment is also very important. As the people of Koba and Jabu-Jabu see rice as a source of life, it must be manifested in all the universes. In this way, God can be understood as the source of universal brotherhood. And the Aru people embody it in their daily lives.

Abstract

Departed from his criticism of rigid mission practice and egocentric western philosophical hermeneutics, Sundermeier offers another point of view that mission should be oriented towards the process of interpretation and communication. Sundermeier came up with the idea of “hermeneutic of difference”, an intercultural hermeneutic approach that seeks to understand other cultures without appropriating them. Thereafter, Sundermeier arrived at konvivenz, a multicultural community that can share lives, have a good cultural understanding, and respect different aspects of each culture. According to Sundermeier, konvivenz can be a substructure for the relevant mission in the intercultural context. But, konvivenz seemed stuck on interpersonal relationships and overlooked the economic and political status gap that often makes equal intercultural relations impossible. Inter-cultural hermeneutic needs to consider the dimensions of emancipation in every cultural engagement.

Abstract

Affair is an important issue because it has a serious impact. This article would like to focus on the problem of wives whose husbands had affairs in the GPM Ewiri Klasis Congregation of South Buru. Wives whose husbands cheat on them experience a holistic impact. The research method used is a pastoral circle: problem description, problem analysis, theological reflection, and pastoral action. Based on the research, it was found that the church needs to develop a holistic model of pastoral care. Therefore, the authors use pastoral counseling steps with the ABC method from Switzer. This pastoral mentoring model is one of the relevant mentoring models to be developed by the church specifically in the Ewiri GPM congregation.

Abstract

This article aims to analyze the problem of conflict that occurred due to the division of the congregation in the Maluku Protestant Church (GPM). In particular, the Congregation of Passo became the locus of research. Using qualitative descriptive, the researcher found data from congregants against and pro of church expansion. This research used the functional perspective on social conflict from Lewis A. Coser to analyze various conflict variables in the Passo Congregation. I found that the conflict in Passo was influenced by multiple external factors, such as an understanding of the customary land, the perspective of the urban community, the relationship between the church and local government, and the interests of local politicians. The church's mission in the world is to build a peaceful fellowship. Therefore, this article finally proposes a theological perspective on the community of peace as a theological approach in understanding the issue of conflict between congregations.

Abstract

This article aims to explore the theology of minjung. It is an accumulation and articulation of theological reflections on the political experience of Christian students, laborers, the press, professors, farmers, writers, and intellectuals as well as theologians in Korea in the 1970s. Minjung theology of Korea has been known as a branch of liberation theology. However, minjung theology was born in a special situation in Korea and has distinctive features from liberation theology. Through this research, I examine the definition, background, and characteristics of minjung theology, and attempts to research reconciliation, an important topic of modern theology, from the perspective of minjung theology. Minjung is economically poor, politically weak, socially deprived, but culturally and historically rich and powerful. Also, minjung, the poor, can think. They can do theology. There is no need for them to depend upon their oppressors to tell them what the gospel is.

Abstract

Cases of divorce and adultery are found in the context of society today. The issue of divorce and adultery is also discussed in the biblical text with its context. One of them is the Gospel of Matthew, which addresses these two cases in an inseparable frame. It is interesting that divorce issues that occur are often associated with adultery committed by one partner and harming the other party. The divorce case described by Matthew is not desired by Jesus. Jesus is depicted as a character who defends women but does not rule out men. In establishing family ties, men and women are expected to have the same responsibility to maintain the sanctity of the marital relationship that has been built. This study uses library research to produce interpretations and study of the text of the Gospel of Matthew 5: 27-32 by paying attention to women's experiences using a feminist perspective.

The reality of poverty is a serious problem for the people in Maluku. Based on the data from the Central Statistics Agency, it shows that Maluku still occupies the fourth position as the poorest province in Indonesia until the first semester of the Periode in March 2018. Abstract

Violence and conflict in the name of religion have increased in Indonesia, including Maluku. Social strife in Maluku provides evidence of the reality of an objectionable and properly managed society. Conflict in the name of religion has contributed to legitimization with bible texts, including Deuteronomy 7: 1-11 and John 14: 6. Therefore, this article is the result of re-interpretation utilizing ideological criticism of these biblical texts. Through the interpretation, the authors found that the exclusive narrative of Deuteronomy 7: 1-11 and John 14: 6 was influenced by the social, political, and economic situation. Thus, both texts need to be reinterpreted contextually regarding the plurality of Indonesian society. In the end, this article emphasizes that the concept of God's people cannot be interpreted exclusively but refers to all humankind universally.
