Abstract

Vertical jump is one of the important physical abilities that reflects the explosive power of the lower leg muscles, so it is often used to assess functional performance and explosive movement capacity. This ability is influenced by muscle strength and movement coordination. Bodyweight squats are a simple, easy-to-do exercise that has the potential to increase muscle strength and explosive ability without requiring additional equipment, making it relevant for students who generally have varied and limited physical activity. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of serial bodyweight squats on vertical jump height in male students at the Faculty of Medicine, Sam Ratulangi University. A quasi-experimental study with a one-group pretest–posttest design was conducted to compare the results before and after the intervention, which were then analyzed using the Wilcoxon nonparametric test. Measurements of vertical jump height before and after a 4-week intervention on 44 subjects showed an increase in vertical jump height with a significance value of 0.000 (p<0.05). There is an effect of serial bodyweight squat training on vertical jump height in students.

Abstract

Abstract

Overweight and obesity are important risk factors for Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM). Fasting Blood Glucose (FBG) examination assesses blood glucose levels after an eight-hour fast. Detecting FBG levels in individuals who are overweight or obese, particularly young adults, is essential for preventing metabolic disorders such as T2DM. This study aimed to describe the fasting blood glucose (FBG) profile of female students with overweight and obesity in the 2023 cohort of the Medical Education Study Program. This study employed a descriptive design with a cross-sectional approach. A total of 30 female students who met the inclusion and exclusion criteria were selected using purposive sampling. Most respondents in both groups had normal FBG levels. In the overweight group, 86.7% were in the normal category and 13.3% in the pre-diabetic category, while in the obese group, 80% had normal levels and 20% were pre-diabetic. No respondents were found in the diabetic category. Increased FBG levels were associated with factors such as a family history of diabetes, frequent consumption of sugary foods and fast food, low physical activity, and inadequate sleep duration. Most female students with overweight or obesity had normal FBG levels; however, the proportion of pre-diabetes was higher in the obese group. These findings indicate that early metabolic disturbances may occur in both groups, particularly among individuals with a sedentary lifestyle and a family history of diabetes.

Abstract

This research aims to examine articles related to the role of audit quality in detecting fraud. This study uses the blibliometrics-based Systematic Literature Review (SLR) method to identify, evaluate, and synthesize relevant empirical research results from Scopus' reputable database. The literature search was carried out with a combination of the keywords fraud detection and quality audit. Of the 110 articles identified, as many as 34 articles met the inclusion criteria after going through the selection process using the PRISMA protocol. The results of this study show that fraud detection is a multidimensional phenomenon influenced by a combination of individual auditor factors (competence, professionalism, skepticism), quality of internal governance and control, and the use of technologies such as CAATs, big data analytics, and artificial intelligence. Audit quality has proven to be an important catalyst that strengthens the effectiveness of fraud detection, although traditional proxies such as KAP size and tenure audits do not always consistently explain fraud detection capabilities. Overall, these findings confirm that synergies between audit quality, governance mechanisms, and intelligent automation are needed to improve the effectiveness of fraud prevention and detection.

Abstract

This study examines the impact of auditor market concentration and audit tenure on audit quality within technology firms listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (2022-2024). Using purposive sampling and panel data regression, audit quality is proxied via audit opinion. Findings reveal that high market concentration and extended audit tenure significantly reduce audit quality. These results suggest that oligopolistic structures and familiarity threats diminish professional skepticism. It is recommended to strengthen auditor rotation regulations and market competition oversight to ensure financial reporting integrity in digital-based sectors.

Abstract

Congenital syphilis is a serious infection transmitted from mother to fetus, causing multisystem complications in infants. A 5-month-old male infant presented with skin desquamation, alopecia, shortness of breath, and cough. Physical examination revealed alopecia, saddle nose deformity, and extensive skin lesions. Serological testing confirmed early congenital syphilis with a positive VDRL titer of 1:32. The patient also suffered from severe anemia (Hb 4.9 g/dL), thrombocytopenia, and pneumonia. Despite receiving treatment with benzathine penicillin, antibiotics, and blood transfusion, the patient’s condition worsened, leading to death six days after hospitalization. This case highlights the severe manifestations of early congenital syphilis and the importance of early diagnosis and timely treatment. Delays in prenatal screening and limited healthcare access contributed to the delayed diagnosis. Although standard treatment was administered, the patient’s prognosis was poor due to secondary infections and comorbidities. Prenatal screening and public health education are crucial in reducing congenital syphilis cases. Early detection and management are essential to improving outcomes and reducing mortality in affected infants.

Abstract

Background: Conjunctivitis is one of the most common ocular complaints encountered in primary healthcare settings, as the conjunctiva being directly exposed to the external environment is highly susceptible to irritation and infection. Although it is not a major cause of severe visual impairment, conjunctivitis frequently prompts individuals to seek medical attention. Several studies have reported a high incidence of conjunctivitis, including research at the Provincial Eye Hospital of North Sulawesi which found that 42.31% of ocular infections were conjunctivitis. Preliminary interviews at Wori Public Health Center revealed that conjunctivitis cases occur every month, yet the community’s level of knowledge varies widely. This variation highlights the need for research to assess the community’s knowledge regarding the symptoms and prevention of conjunctivitis as a basis for developing more effective health education. Objective: To determine the level of knowledge regarding the symptoms and prevention of conjunctivitis among individuals visiting Wori Public Health Center. Methods: This study employed a quantitative method with a descriptive design and a cross-sectional approach involving 97 respondents. Results: Knowledge regarding conjunctivitis symptoms was predominantly in the good category, with 74 respondents (76.2%) achieving a total score of 88.7%. Knowledge regarding prevention was also mostly in the good category, with 64 respondents (66%) scoring 83.2% in total. Conclusion: The level of knowledge among individuals visiting Wori Public Health Center regarding the symptoms and prevention of conjunctivitis is generally good, as indicated by the predominance of respondents within the good knowledge category, although a small proportion still demonstrated moderate and low knowledge levels.

Abstract

Semakin lama durasi bermain, semakin tinggi tingkat keparahan gejala dry eye syndrome.
