Abstract

It has been known that celery herbs (Apium graveolens L) contain unsaturated fatty acid, so it could be used as hypocholesterolemia and hypolipidemia agents. A study about the effect of celery herbs juice to cholesterole and lipid blood concentration high feeding cholesterol and lipid diet white rat, has been carried out. In this observation, 30 (thirty) male white rats with 150 to 200 g of weight and 4 months of age were used and divided into five groups randomly. The first group was as a normal control, the second group was given high cholesterol and lipid diet 2,5 g/200 g bow (body weight)/day as a treatment control. For the third, the fourth and the fifth groups, each of them was given with high cholesterol and lipid diet in the same quantity with the second group and get celery herb juice with 0,14 g/200 g bow/day; 0,72 g/200 g bow/day; 3,6 g/200 g bow/day dosage. After six weeks of treatment, the rats were surgeried, the blood was taken out from the heart and then total cholesterol and total lipid concentration were measured. The results showed that all of dosages of celery herb juice has lowering cholesterol and lipid effects, but did not decrease the total cholesterol and total lipid concentration significantly.

Abstract

An expression of the imaginary and real parts of the complex refractive index derived by Forouhi and Bloomer have been applied to obtain wider energy range of optical constants for amorphous silicon carbon (a-SiC:H) films deposited by dc sputtering method using silicon and graphite targets. Excellent agreement was obtained between the formula and experimentally measured values of both n(E) and k(E). The optical constants obey Kramers-Kronig dispersion relation and show a maximum at high-energy range. The dependence of five parameters to carbon concentration and the variation of optical constants with composition for both targets will be discussed.

Abstract

An experiment has been conducted to fi nd out the effect of ion carbonate in the calcium phosphate precipitation process. It was conducted by adding CaCl2 .2H2 O 8 mM into Na2 HPO4 .2H2 O 8 mM and NaHCO3 . The NaHCO3 concentrations varied from 0 mM, 16 mM, 80 mM, 320 mM, and 720 mM. The results of the infra red measurement indicated that the precipitation in the form of carbonate apatite crystals particularly at low ion carbonate concentrations. However, if ion carbonate concentration was higher than 80 mM the crystallization process was disturbed, and the produced calcium phosphate was dominated by amorf phase. Besides this calcium phosphate amorf, calcium carbonate compound that probably also in the form of amorf phase was also produced. Stirring of the solution infl uenced the crystallization process. It was likely that the longer time of stirring would inhibit the crystallization of calcium phosphates, but it enhanced the crystallization of calcium carbonates in the form of calcites

Abstract

Disorder Study of Amorphous Silicon Carbon (a-SiC:H) Films Deposited by DC Sputtering Method. Disorder amorphous network of amorphous silicon carbon (a-SiC:H) films has been investigated for films prepared by dc sputtering method. The films were deposited using silicon target in argon and methane gas mixtures. The optical absorption coefficients have been performed by UV-VIS (ultra violet-visible) reflectance and transmittance spectroscopy. Disorder parameter has been obtained from the optical absorption coefficient α (E) using Tauc plot. Increasing methane flow rate has an effect on increasing Tauc gap and decreasing disorder parameter. The amorphous network of the films tends to be more disorder with increasing methane flow rate. The relation of disorder amorphous network with structural and compositional properties will be discussed.
