Abstract

The background of this research is the low mathematical proofing ability of students. One alternative learning that can be applied to improve students' mathematical proofing ability is the PACE learning. The purpose of this study is to find out: whether the students' mathematical evidentiary ability using the PACE learning is better than students who use PBL (Problem Based Learning) models, and how students respond to mathematics learning using the PACE learning. The research method is quasi-experimental, with a pretest-posttest control group design research design. The study was conducted in one of the state high schools in the city of Bandung. The study population was all students of class XI, the sample students of class XI MIPA-1 as the experimental class were given the PACE treatment and class XI MIPA-2 as the control class was given the PBL treatment. The research instrument was a mathematical proofing ability test, a student questionnaire, and an educator observation sheet. The results of the research are quantitative and qualitative data. Analysis of quantitative research results using t test, while qualitative results use a Likert scale. Based on the analysis of the results of the mathematical proofing ability test, it can be concluded that: the mathematical proofing ability of students by using the PACE learning model is better than the students who use PBL learning models, and the students' responses to mathematics learning using the PACE learning are positive.

Abstract

Research on students' cognitive development has been done in several other countries. But for research in Indonesia is still rarely done. This research uses survey method with qualitative approach. The purpose of this study is to describe an understanding concept of eternity number and concept of eternity length on elementary school students through the proof of cognitive development of Piaget's theory. The stage of cognitive development in this study is limited to the concrete operation phase. A total of 29 third graders participating in the study came from elementary schools with good quality in Indonesian education standards. The supporting instruments in this research are questionnaire and interview. The data collection is done by giving experiments about concept of eternity number and concept of eternity length presented in the questionnaire, and must be answered by the students along with the reason. Students' answers were analyzed descriptively on a percentage basis. Some cases that represent the results of the analysis, validated by conducting interviews in the form of confirmation to students. Based on the results and discussion obtained conclusion, that 100% of students at the age of concrete operation stage in this study already understand concept of eternity number. And 13.79% of students at the age of concrete operation stage in this study have had an understanding concept of eternity length.

Abstract

The problem behind this research is the low level of students' mathematical understanding abilities. One alternative learning that can be applied to improve students' mathematical understanding abilities is the SFE learning model. The aim to be achieved in this study was to determine the effect of using the SFE learning model on improving students' mathematical understanding abilities. The method used in this study is a quasi-experimental method, with research design Non-Equivalent Control Group Design. The research was conducted at TULUS KARTIKA Middle School Bandung. The population in this study were all eighth grade students of SMP TULUS KARTIKA Bandung. The sample in this study were students of class VIII-A as the experimental class and class VIII-B as the control class. The instruments used are in the form of tests of mathematical understanding to determine students' mathematical understanding. Before testing hypotheses, an analysis of data normality and homogeneity is carried out first, both experimental and control classes. The data analyzed were the data from the test results of students' mathematical understanding abilities namely pretest, posttest and gain index. Based on the analysis of the results of the test of mathematical understanding ability, the conclusion is that the SFE learning model has a positive effect on improving students' mathematical understanding abilities, with medium category.

Abstract

The low ability of students in mathematical problem solving especially to face story question that relating with daily life becomes problem statement in this research. The purpose of this research is to know that increased mathematical problem solving ability of students using Means Ends Analysis (MEA) model is better or not than using problem based learning model (PBL). The approach of this research is qualitative and quantitative by using quasi experimental method. The population in this research is eight grade students of one of junior high school in Bandung. The data were collected by test of mathematical problem solving ability as main instrument and teacher’s sheet observation as supporting instrument. The conclusion of this research is increased mathematical problem solving ability of students using MEA model is better than using PBL model .

Abstract

This research is motivated by the mistakes that students did in solving the indefinite integral problems. Such mistakes might occur because of learning problems experienced by the learners. The purpose of this study is to examine the types of learning barriers experienced by learners in solving the indefinite integral problems. This research is a descriptive research with qualitative approach. The subjects of this study were the students of class XII who had experienced the indefinite integral problems. The subject was selected by a purposive sampling technique. The data were collected by using a triangulation technique. The findings showed that the LO experienced by the learners in solving the indefinite integral problems, were: (1) mistakenly understanding the association of derivatives with the indefinite integral, (2) being erroneous in deciphering the indefinite integral problems in the form of algebraic functions (polynomials, roots, and fractions) related to the operations, and (3) the students did not write “+c and dx” in integrating steps and integrating results. The LO focused on epistemological learning obstacle.

Abstract

Calculus is a must course of many major in higher education. It caused by calculus has a role as basic foundation of many theories and its application is used in many aspects of various majors. However, many students had difficulty to undersatand calculus course. Its difficulty was caused by calculus course could not been integrated with topics that was learned in each of majors. Solution of that problem is to integrated topics from various majors in calculus course and it can be done with STEM learning. STEM learning integrates science aspect (S), technology aspect (T), engineering aspect (E), and mathematics aspect (M) in learning process so it can makes calculus course to be more realistic so students can easily understand it.

Abstract

The learning process that is still dominated by the teacher by applying the procedural learning process and the assumption of some students that mathematics is a difficult and tedious lesson leads to low mathematical creative thinking ability and learning motivation for students. SQ3R learning model is an alternative learning model that can improve mathematical creative thinking ability and increase students' learning motivation to find meaning from what is learned in learning activities. The purpose of this study are (1) To find out the application of the SQ3R learning model can improve the mathematical creative thinking ability of grade VII students. (2) To find out the application of the SQ3R learning model can increase students' learning motivation. This research was conducted in SMP DUA MEI Banjaran in February - May 2018. This study used Classroom Action Research (CAR) method which lasted for two cycles. The research instruments used were observation sheets, learning motivation and test questionnaires. The results of this study indicate an increase in mathematical creative thinking ability and learning motivation of students. This can be seen from the average value of students' mathematics learning scores in the first cycle of 2.74 to 3.08 with the percentage of learning completeness of students in the first cycle of 48% to 91.67%, as well as the learning motivation of students feeling happy with mathematics is 66.44%, there is a willingness and awareness of mathematics learning at 64.53% and 69.40%, being independent by 52% and having a boost of 49%.

Abstract

This reseach was aimed to explore the low students’ ability of math. One of the way for learning could be applied to improve the students ability in exploring of math is Think Pair Share (TPS) model. The purpose of this reseach to know: the improvement of the students’ ability in exploring of math used “Think Pair Share(TPS)” and responded the students to learning of math about this learning, the metode was used is cuasi eksperimen metode with reseach design in pretest-posttest control group design.This reseach was conducted at one of SMP Swasta in Bandung. The population were all students eight grade. Students eight grade B class group as control class. Eksperiment class was given “Think Pair Share(TPS)” learning model and control class convensional learning model instrument was used to test ability about the explore math, the students respons qualitatif data and quantitatif data. Based on the result of analysis in tets  math exploring ability was concluded, the improvement of the students’ability in exploring of math with” Think Pair Share (TPS)”was more students used convensional  model learning, students answered the positif respons to “Think Pair Share (TPS)” learning model.
