Abstract

Garlic (Allium sativum Linn.) is widely known by people as herb, besides having antibacterial property. Alisin is one of antibacterial active substance contained in garlic. The purpose of this study was to test the antibacterial activity of ethanol extracts of garlic leaves and bulbs against Shigella sonnei or dysentery bacteria. The determination of antibacterial activity was conducted by using disk diffusion and dilution methods. Antibacterial test results which had the best inhibitory activities against Shigella sonnei were shown by the extracts of 8% garlic bulbs and 4% garlic leaves with inhibition zone respectively 16mm and 19mm. The result showed the MIC of garlic bulbs extract was 0.5% and garlic leaves extract was 0.25%. The smallest concentration which could kill (MBC) Shigella sonnei was garlic bulbs extract 1% and garlic leaves extract 0.5%. This study showed that the ethanol extracts of garlic leaves and bulbs had antibacterial activity against Shigella sonnei.

Abstract

Increased rate of erosion and sedimentation undeniably will bring degradation to the affected area, particularly in the watershed ecosystem. This problem, however, can be reduced by applying a proper watershed management, especially in the upstream. Watershed management would be carried out based on analysis of the watershed performance. A hydrological modelfrequently used to determine the impact of the landuse and physical environmental conditions onthe rate of erosion and sedimentation spatially and temporally is Soil Water Assessment Tool(SWAT), This research aimed: (1) to determine the accuracy of the monthly model simulationand, (2) to analyze the rate of erosion and sedimentation in Keduang sub-watershed. The statistical method used to test the model was Nash-Sutcliffe efficiency (NS) and the coefficient of determination. Result of model validation obtained value of R2 = 0.79 and NS = 0.41. The area with a high erosion rate was as much as 17,950.75 ha (51.22%) and very high erosion rate was 7,771.25 ha (22.17%). Average of sedimentation rate in the outlet of Keduang sub-watershed, which was retrieved from the simulation in 2011-2014, was 408.19 tons/ha/year.

Abstract

Steady promotion on water, sanitation, and hygiene to achieve the target of Universal Access 2019 becomes a priority of Ambon local government. Various programs have been executed including the construction of public toilet and and communal waste water treatment plant (WWTP). Despite these efforts, open defecation is frequently practiced particularly in remote areas. Inquiries on the areas which can be classified as the most high-risk areas regarding with open defecation have been conducted which include Passo village in Teluk Ambon Bagualasub-district as one of these areas. It is presumed that 831 families (26.64%) in Passo Village are still practicing it. This study aimed to determine the social and technical aspects related to the practice of open defecation in Paso village. Data collections were conducted through observation, interview, and questionnaire. Based on the analysis, the social aspects that affect to performance of Open Defecation Free (ODF) was mainly due to the low capacity of local communities in building latrines, while their consciousness and attitude upon sanitation were poor. As for the technical aspects, water shortages became the primary factor for the absence of toilet, in addition to the limited area to construct it. Communal toilet turns out to be a resolution for this problem.

Abstract

Password is important information to access or enter a system. Alphanumeric is a text-based password system that is commonly used. Unfortunately, many users make a weak password that is easy to guess and vulnerable to various attacks such as brute-force, dictionary attack, guessing attack and others. To create a strong password is suggested to have a lot of variety and long, but it will be difficult to remember by the user. Graphical password is an alternative method that gives usability for the user. Based on psychological research, people are generally easy to remember or recognize an images, shapes and colors rather than text. This reinforces the researchers to develop this method. The main problem of graphical password isvulnerable to shoulder surfing. In this paper will be proposed scheme as graphical password text based that are resistant to shoulder surfing attacks using color.
