Abstract

Abstract

This study aims to identify various forms of cognitive impairment in elementary school students through a qualitative approach using a case study design. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation of students, teachers, and parents in the school environment. The results of the study show that students' reading, writing, and arithmetic (calistung) impairments are present in mild symptoms of cognitive impairment such as dysgraphia (technical difficulty in writing) and mild dyscalculia (difficulty in understanding complex mathematical material). Students tend to find it easier to understand contextual material related to everyday life, while abstract material such as mathematics and foreign languages remain a challenge. The use of technology in learning has not become a common practice, with students preferring to search for information in books before turning to the internet. In addition, there were also indications of mild attention deficit and hyperactivity disorders in some students, which can affect the effectiveness of classroom learning. This study emphasizes the importance of learning strategies tailored to student needs, such as contextual methods, individualized approaches, and the use of technology as a supporting medium. These findings are expected to serve as a basis for schools in designing interventions that support optimal cognitive development in students and early detection of symptoms of cognitive disorders.

Abstract

Low levels of education and limited access to information in Gamblok Hamlet, Galangpengampon Village, Wonopringgo District, Pekalongan Regency, are the main factors contributing to poor financial literacy among adolescents. Most adolescents in this area have completed only elementary or junior high school, so they lack an adequate understanding of the importance of financial planning and personal finance management. As a result, they are prone to consumer behavior, lack savings habits, and lack an understanding of the risks and benefits of investing. This community service activity aims to improve adolescent financial literacy by providing education tailored to participants' understanding levels. The implementation method includes interactive outreach involving discussions, simple budgeting simulations, educational games, and an introduction to basic, easy-to-understand investment instruments, such as savings and gold. The activity results showed a significant increase in participants' understanding of money management, the importance of distinguishing between needs and wants, and awareness of saving and of safe investments. This education not only provides knowledge but also encourages changes in behavior toward wiser personal financial management. This activity is expected to be the first step toward forming healthy financial habits, increasing economic independence, and paving the way for the socio-economic development of the younger generation in rural areas with limited access to education.

Abstract

Financial literacy is a fundamental skill that should be instilled from an early age to shape students into independent and responsible individuals. Many fifth-grade students at MII Kyai Betoro, totalling 14, still lack adequate knowledge of money management, putting them at risk of developing consumerist habits. The issue became the focus of a Community Service Program in Dukuh Sebetok, Galangpengampon Village, Wonopringgo District, through the “Smart Spending” program, which aimed to introduce basic money management concepts early on. The program employed educational approaches such as simulations, group discussions, and pre- and post-assessment. The results showed an increase in students' understanding of saving concepts from 42% to 78% after the program implementation. These findings emphasize the importance of early financial education and the support of both schools and families.
