This study aims to find out the perception of people in Sinarrancang, Mundu, Cirebon, West Java, on nikah sirri (“secret” marriage). Using qualitative approach the study reveals that in their opinion nikah sirri mean nikah “kyai”, it is a marriage by ulama and has become a long hereditary tradition. According to fiqih munakahat (a branch of Islamic law which studies about marriage) this kind of marriage is legitimate because it meets the conditions and requirements of marriage. According to positive law, however, such marriage is illegal for not being registered at KUA (a governmental institution which administers Muslim marriage). In order to change their perception on nikah sirri, it needs to socialize UU No. 1 Tahun 1974 continuously. KUA’s service to people has to be addressed so that its accountability and responsibility could run effectively; and more importantly the draft of Religious Courts Law Materials that would provide punishment for those conducting nikah sirri do not contradict with Islamic law.

This research was picturing the society of Ahmadiyah (which consistsof only ten families) in Kudus, Central Java. On one hand this community can be so adaptive to outers (non-Ahmadiyah people) such as joining their yasiinan or manaqiban groups and attending neighborhood meetings and can be so exclusive on the other hand. By exclusive here means that the Ahmadiyah people in Kudus will recite the quran and perform daily prayers together with themselves in their own mosque (Ahmadi mosque). The acceptance of Ahmadiyah in Kudus began when in 1989 some people in Kudus looked for physical and spiritual tranquility to Ahmadi people in Gabus, Pati, Central Java. The Ahmadi people of Gabus then taught them sesorah (Ahmadi teachings) which was suitable with them so that the Ahmadi teaching then well received. Kinship and patron client (employer-employee) relationship are two significant factors for the Ahmadiyah recruitment. The Ahmadiyah in Kudus could exist for the “center” (Bogor) sends them religious teachers who teach and lead their daily prayers in their own masjid. This masjid is built on a piece of land given by Ahmadi people. In order for their existence among local people not to be regarded such as creating “water and oil” relationship, Ahmadi people perform some social events which more outers are involved in, such as inviting them to halal bihalal forum and blood donor.

Every time, a dialogue between the Quran and its readers happens; andthe long period process of such understanding has resulted thousands andtons of interpretation books (kitab tafsir). One of them is Tafsir al-Ibriz byK.H. Bisri Mustofa and is written in Arab Pegon (Javanese language andArabic letters). This article is discussing the characteristics of the book andits method. Using descriptive analytic and hermeneutic interpretative, the studygoes to the conclusion that the book is organized according to tahlili method, namely a method which explains Quranic verses words after words. Themeaning of the words is presented in makna gandul system (the meaning iswritten under the words) while the interpretation and explanation (tafsir) iswritten out of the main body text. In terms of characteristics, the way the Tafsir al-Ibriz explains the meaning of the Quran is considered as simple. The approach applied in the book doesn’t tend to a particular interpretation style because it combines some different styles according to the contextual meanings; and this book belongs to traditional and ma’tsur category.

This article examines the doctrine of marriage in Wetu Telu society inBayan, North Lombok. According to the community marriage is carried outby three steps: perondongan, mepadik lamar, and selarian which is finishedwith some rituals, such as menjojok, memulang, sejati, pemuput selabar, akad nikah, sorong serah, nyongkolan, and balik onos nae. The marriageritual is led in accordance with Islamic teachings by the Head of Office ofReligious Affairs. In spite of referring to Islamic sharia, the Wetu Telu also strongly holdsthe teaching of their ancestors which is more identical with Siva-Buddhistteaching. After a long process of acculturation with Hinduism, the latertakes a part in marriage process within the Wetu Telu. Therefore, the mar-riage concept carried out by the Wetu Telu is a combination of Siva-Budhist (as the religion of indigenous people) and Balinese Hinduism carried out byBalinese kingdom which had been mixed with Islamic teachings that laterbecome local tradition. This local tradition then does create social stratification, marriage procedures and marriage procession. The local wisdom of marriage among the Wetu Telu has a potential role to strengthen religiousharmony in multicultural society.
