Abstract

This research is to study the effect of composting time and media composition of sugar palm solid waste and  straw to an yield of straw mushroom (Volvariella volvaceae (Bulliard Ex Fries) Singer). The research held on May until June 2018. Location of this research is at Kedungsari village, Bandongan sub-district, Magelang regency. The altitude is 332 meters. Factorial experiments 4 x 3 in randomize complete block design that consist of 4 repetitions. First factor is composting time 3, 5, 7, and 9 days. Second factor is media compositions of mix sugar palm solid waste and rice straw (2% : 10%), (4% : 3%), (10% : 10%). The result of this research shows that lenght of composting declines total number of fruits bodies, total weight of fruits bodies, and biological  efficiency. Biological efficiency of  media composition about 10.22% - 19.16%. Media composition of sugar palm solid waste and rice straw do not  effect all observe parameters. Top rack position gets higher yield on total number of fruit bodies per plot, total weight of fruit bodies per plot, and biological efficiency.Composting time is three days on the composition media (10% : 10%) is more effective to the first harvest with the high yield of paddy straw mushroom.

Abstract

The research was carried out to determne the best concentration of kinetin and activated charcoal to stimulate the shoot growth of Ambon Nangka banana cultivar. This research used a Completely Randomised Design (CRD) arranged factorials. The first factor was the concentration of kinetin with 4 levels i.e. 15 µM, 20 µM, 25 µM and 30 µM. The second factor was the concentration of activated charcoal with 4 levels i.e. 0 gL-1; 1 gL-1; 2 gL-1; and 3 gL-1. Each treatment combination was repeated 3 times, which resulted in 48 experimental units. The parameters measured were the shoot emergence time, number of shoots, shoot length, number of roots and root length. The data were analyzed using an analysis of variance at 95% and 99% level of confidences. The research results showed that the interaction between kinetin and activated charcoal had no effect on shoot length of Ambon Nangka banana cultivar. It was also found that the addition of 20 µM kinetin without any added activated charcoal resulted in the highest shoot number of Ambon Nangka banana cultivar. Keywords: Ambon Nangka, kinetin, activated charcoal

Abstract

Begomovirus associated to yellow-curl disease, is an obstacle to the production of chilli in various countries, especially in Indonesia. The characterization of the visual symptoms caused by Begomovirus varies widely. The detection method used must be effective and accurate therefore provide a precise control. This study aims to detect Begomovirus infection using PCR and identify symptoms of yellow-curl disease in Magelang Regency. The research included a sample collection on chilli in Pakis and Banyuurip (Magelang), observing of variation of symptoms of Begomovirus infection, and molecular detection. Primer pairs pAL1v1978/pAR1c715 has successfully detected the association of Begomovirus with yellow-curl disease on chilli at Pakis by symptoms: mosaic, leaf cupping, plant stunting, curling, and malformation. PCR results showed that Begomovirus was not association with yellow-curl disease on chilli at Banyuurip. Molecular evidence for Begomovirus is absolutely necessary because detection based on the visual appearance of symptoms alone is not sufficient to prove infection.
