Abstract

This research aimed to identify: (1) how Talking Chips technique can be implemented in improving the students’ speaking skill and (2) how the implementation of Talking Chips technique can improve the class atmosphere. It was a Classroom Action Research conducted to students in class VIII H of SMP Al-Islam 1 Surakarta in the academic year of 2015/2016. The data were collected through observational and non-observational technique. The data collected were analyzed by using qualitative data and desriptive statistics. By implementing this technique, the findings of this research indicate that the students’ speaking skill which covers comprehension, fluency, grammar, pronunciation, and vocabulary improve. The use of this technique can also improve the class atmosphere due to the activeness of the students in the learning activity. It facilitates the students to participate in the speaking activity equally by using chips.

Abstract

Theory and practice are the one-entity that must be mastered in studying biology. Facts show that biological knowledge is not accompanied by practice of such science so that it focuses on theory. For that, it takes a learning approach that develops the skills to process knowledge acquisition that is the process skill approach. In addition to implementation of the strategies used, success in teaching and learning can not be separated from the teacher's efforts. Lesson Study is one that can be used as a method for teachers to exchange ideas in the preparation and development of biology learning plan. The purpose of this research is to know the effectiveness of process approach based on Lesson Study on Biology student learning outcomes. This research type is quasi experimental by applying approach of process skill base on Lesson Study in experiment class and conventional learning model, that is lecturing and question and answer in control class. Results of the analysis using the effectiveness test using gain score. Average gain score of the experimental class is greater than the average gain score control class which means that learning using the approach of Lesson Study based process skills is more effective than conventional learning. Result of the affective value analysis using independent t-test shows (sig = 0,000 <0,05) so that based on the same variance assumption, the two classes have significant affective value difference or in other words there is influence of different treatment to student affective value..

Abstract

One type of measurement often done in education are measurement of the students’ performance both for cognitive and affective aspects. These measures are extremely important therefore must use a good measuring tool and the results also easy to interpret. The measurement of students performance mostly use tests. Measurement test have evolved from traditional one to modern theories to apply more realistic models which are known as item response theory. However the use of modern test theory much rely on availability of the computer software. In this paper we report the development of a web-GUI interface that can be used to analyze polytomous responses, especially using partial credit and graded response models which will also contains theories and interpretations of the results. This web-GUI interface is expected to help teachers to understand and to do the analysis of polytomous responses more easily.

Abstract

Listening is sometimes regarded as a passive skill since it is receptive skill. Thus, the role of listening is not as crucial as other productive skills.Additionally, acquiring listening skill can be frustrating for some learners because they must put great effort of which is not easy to improve their listening skill. This eventually leads learners do not pay much attention to it. Whereas listening is considered to be the initial stage in learning languages. Give an understanding about the importance of listening in language learning is essential in order to give learnersopportunity to improve their listening skill. Therefore, this paper aims to share ideas of maximizing the use of ICT especially internet-based resourcesin improving listening skill. The benefits of the useof internet-based resources will be explained in order to help the learners improve their listening skill.

Abstract

Learning of Science in Indonesia especially for Biology nowadays drives students to find out their own concept and do their own experiment so they can understand well about their own concept and learning much for the environment around them. This learning can improve student metacognitive skill that student awareness about thinking their self thinking. The learning strategy that can improve these competences is Project-Based Learning. This experiment is going to do to understand about the effect of this strategy on student metacognitive skill. The research is going on SMAN 7 and SMAN Gondanglegi Malang in second semester for 2009/2010. Students in 2 classes each school as a sample of population of this research. This is quasi experiment that use non equivalent group design and anacova nonfaktorial for analyze the results. Results of this research show that project-based learning doesn’t give different effect on students metacognitive skill even if compared by control class that learning by multistrategy. Students metacognitive skill increase to 3,2% whether students in control class increase to 5,5%. This result show us that PBL strategy must be applicate on certain condition. Project-based learning base on this research can improve not only students retention achievement, it also predict can improve students skill process, confidence, and their attitude. Based on this situation so it is important to do the next research that assay the project-based learning on improving students skill process and their attitude to the environment.

Abstract

Students’ writing anxiety leads students to have low writing skill whereas writing is undeniably crucial. This research is aimed to improve the students’ writing skill and investigate the extent to which peer correction method improves the students’ skill in writing explanation text. Peer correction is a teaching language method in which students receive feedback from their peer dealing with their writings. This method is considered as an effective teaching strategy which enables students to have enthusiasm and confidence in writing. Thirty of tenth grade students in Surakarta participated in this research. The data of this classroom action research were obtained by conducting test, observation and interview. Based on the data analyzed, it is found that the students’ writing skill on each aspect of writing is continuously improved in each cycle. This is affected by effective steps of peer correction method implemented.

Abstract

This study leaves behind the problem of how the initial conditions of study at the Institute of beauty Courses, how the conceptual model of integrated learning soft skills and hard skills, how the application of integrated learning model of soft skill and hard skills, and how effectiveness. The integrated learning model of soft skill and hard skill that can improve the competence of Learning Institute courses in the field of beauty. Theories that inform the study of educational theories outside of school, learning models, integrated learning, citizens' learning competencies, and beauty courses. The approach used in this research is qualitative research approach and approach & development, research method used is description and experiment method. The results show that: (1) the initial conditions of learning in beauty institutions are still dominated by tutors, unfeeling citizens engaged in learning, (2) validation experts have produced integrated integrated learning model in improving the competence of citizens. Learning, (3) application of model can produce model of integrated learning model of soft skill and hard skill to improve citizen learning competence, (4) model of integrated learning model soft skill and hard skill developed in this research In accordance with qualitative or quantitative analysis from The results of the test results have effectively increased the competence of participants of the Institute Learning course on beauty, the conclusion of this research is that the integrated learning model of soft skill and hard skills developed has been effective in improving the competence of learning institute courses on beauty.

Abstract

The level of student achievement is a benchmark of the quality assessment of a school. This student's assessment is based on the national final exam scores every year. When the national exam score increases, it will affect the number of students who will enroll in a school. It affects the number of classes to be opened in the registration of new student candidates. This study aims to predict student achievement based on the value of subjects that become the focus on the final national examination. One method of forecasting in the Artificial Neural Network (ANN) is the Extreme Learning Machine (ELM). The working principle in this method is basically the same as ANN method in general. Namely, there are input layer, hidden layer and output layer. By randomly assigning the input parameters, the ELM generates good generalization performance. By using 20-20-1 network architecture, this research has a result in a small RMSE value of 0.314.

Abstract

Students have a different level of prose writing proficiency. Some students are already able to write a prose pretty well while some others are not. This condition is aggravated by students’ low motivation in writing. Therefore, an effective writing learning strategy is needed. In teaching and learning process, especially in a school environment, teachers play an important role so that a learning strategy serves as a tool to improve learning. The research design used was CAR – collaborating another teacher – that was set to 2 cycles. Based on the research findings of the implementation of 3M prose writing strategy in the first cycle, students who passed were by 50% of 18 students. In the second cycle, on the other hand, students who passed were about 89%. It means that there was 39% improvement from the first cycle. We can see that the implementation of 3M prose writing strategy can improve the sixth-grade students’ prose writing proficiency at SD Negeri 8 Kilensari Panarukan Situbondo Academic Year of 2014/2015.
