Abstract

The two writers of the article below describe the characteristics of fundamentalism as a school and a movement of religion. Some of them are as a moral movement to return to fundamental truth In the uncertainty of society life, back to the tenet of Holy Scripture that never denies as a guidance of daily life. In this sense, it has similarities to orthodoxy but the differences how to apply the truth of Holy Book in society. The fundamentalism believes the coming of the Thousand Year Kingdom. It does not hesitate to confront and isolate the sinning people who are not in accordance with belief norms, the fundamentalists believe that they are guided saved people, while the people are not in their group go astray. The fundamental ism movement in the beginning is sporadic individual not organize, it involves in the political domain. The writers declare that the elements of fundamentalism that mentioned above there are in every group of fundamentalism, the particular elements exist in one group whereas the other elements emerge in the other group. At least, the essence of the fundamentalism movement as effort to refer the pure doctrine to protect many kinds of fundamentalism.

Abstract

The article below traces the fundamentalism either with violence or without radicalization is not only phenomenon that emerges from the religion community but also rises from secular community. The fundamentalism of religion denotes general phenomena, which appears from the practices of religions as well as the fundamentalism of secularism and modernism. In this case, the position of human pertaining to The Holy Scripture shows sociological dimension according to an interpretation. In the history of Islam and the great religions in the world, fundamental ism either radical or not radical constitutes a social phenomena reacting to social change. The dysfunction of the values of the religion doctrine that becomes the reference of social conduct motivates the member of the community carries out to reject every social change by isolating themselves from the change. While the appearance of reinterpretation toward the old doctrine of religion faces the social change.

Abstract

The discourse on the secularization of politics and the fundamentalism of religion constitutes an interesting theme and includes the complex problem. The secularization of politics as a rigid form of rigid secularism or an extreme secularization isolates religion from state is not only a single phenomenon but it also relation with the trend of religion understanding. It covers response to abuse of state management, especially about the theocratic system and the institutionalization of religion in naive politic. But at the same time the secularization of politics beside causes and refuses the religion involving, and it also cannot answer demoralization of political state as whole, so it appears the fundamentalism of religion rigidly. In this respect, it needs new alternative to find a relationship model between religion and political domain that more flexible, dynamic, it is toward modifying prophetical politic.

Abstract

The fundamentalism of Islam emerges because of two factors- either external factor or internal factor. The external factor that causes appearing of the fundamentalism of Islam covering the fact that Muslim world faces the challenge of modernism, secularism and westernize tend to marginalize the religion (Islam) position in respective Muslim society. Whereas the internal factor includes the phenomena of religious particularly the moral decadence that happens in Muslim society. Besides, according to some researcher's analyse regarding the emerging of the fundamentalism of Islam indicates that muslim can not answer the challenge of modernity creatively and they interpret the basic doctrine of Islam rigidly and textually that not in accordance with recent situation. In other word, they do not perceive Islam by using contextual interpretation.

Abstract

The following article explains that it is very difficult to find the characteristics fundamentalism of Buddhism because the fundamentalism movement denotes the reaction to superficiality of spiritual values because of the modernization process. It invites the followers of religion back to the tenet of Holy Scripture. It is not only the superficiality of spiritual values but also the deconstruction of spiritual values themselves. If the fundamentalism emerges because of the disappointing of the secular modern society, the Buddhism at some countries tends to cooper ate with the regime of the state to support the modernization i.e. Srilangka and Thailand. Whereas at some states i.e. South Korea, Japan, Taiwan and Singapore the doctrine of Buddhism is understood from the modernism perspective, but, the spiritual values of the scripture complete the secular modem society. To save society with Holy Book indicates that the responsibilities of social, politic, and culture were regarded as Buddhism fundamentalism, in accord with social change that carried out by Soka Gakkai to overcome the frustration of society.

Abstract

Fundamentalism, as has been proved by many researchers, does not only occur in Islam. Almost all of religion across the world may be potential to be locus of fundamentalism. The Issue of fundamentalism is getting popular recently. This because there are a lot of political cases and social unrests relate with fundamentalism behavior . Here, are examired factors that cause the rise of fundamentalism, especially relates with the need for spirituality among modern people.

Abstract

In the beginning of century 21 that signed by the great changes, the clash of civilization and social conflict happening all over the world. But, the religion still plays important role in the process of globalization. In this sense, the fact, the followers of religion face the community consciousness that the structural adjustment and the cultural understanding denote irrefutable. The author tries to investigate the role of religion in the global era, which characterized by the rapid change and it is difficult to predict. This article contains the definition and the characteristics of the global era, the fundamentalism of religion, and the role of religion in the recent era. Besides, it describes the plurality of religion, conflict and integration; it also looks for the formulation how to rebuild Muslim civilization.

Abstract

This article explores the fundamentalism as a transition ideology. Actually religion is not only covers the doctrine the relationship between God and man, but it also gives the contribution to solve the critical problem of human being such as social, politic, culture problem in accordance with the substance of humanity. Because of the universality of religion that mentioned above, that is the ideal function of religion. In fact, the recent accidents in human life for instance, modernity and the tragedy of World Trade Center September, 11, 2001 indicate that religion (Islam) does not coincide with peace horizon, so Islam is regarded as a religion of fundamentalism. According to writer that fundamentalism is a kind of self defense mechanism of the communities of religion, particularly the community of Muslim how to face the problem of politic, culture, social life etc. It will and always present inhuman history, but the term that refers to it depending on who gives the name to them.

Abstract

The article below tries to describe the position of the fundamentalism of  Islam as the trend between understanding the realities of religion followers and interpreting the doctrine of religion. Actually the term " fundamentalism " is not discovered as .a particular term in Moslem society. The term is emerged in the Western society, especially in the context of the Protestant Christian in the United States of America. Historically, it appears closely relation with the role of religion facing the development of the liberalization, the modernization and, the secularization. The result of the involving causes community of western countries to place the religion institutions face knowledge, but, in this sense it becomes the diametyral enemy. At the same time, the Western colonialism against the under-developing countries and the social scientists of humanism, and orientalists introduce the term fundamentalism to their colonized people. According to them that the Islamic States or Moslem countries in the term of colonization have similarities experiences as those of theirs. Really it is stated that the phenomena of fundamentalism have similarities generally but there are some differences in the context of their particularities
