Abstract

Purpose: This study examines the challenges and implications of equating scores from different test forms, focusing on the 2021 NECO Agricultural Science examinations in North Central Nigeria. It considers factors such as school location, school type (public vs. private), and test administration (internal vs. external) to evaluate the extent to which these equated scores maintain invariance across different populations. Methodology: The study employs a non-equivalent anchor test (NEAT) group equating design and analyzes data from a population of 97,413 Senior Secondary students using the IRT statistical tool. Findings: The key findings reveal significant disparities in the equated scores between internal and external examinations, as well as between urban and rural locations. These discrepancies challenge the fairness and comparability of the examinations, raising concerns about potential biases and inequities in educational assessment. Significance: The research highlights the importance of achieving population invariance in test equating methodologies. It recommends adopting efficient equating methods, such as mean equating, and utilizing the Item Response Theory (IRT) approach for standardized test development to ensure fairness and equity in educational evaluations.

Abstract

Purpose: This research aims to analyze the difficulties experienced by junior high school students with two-dimensional space concepts. Methodology: This quantitative research employs a descriptive approach. The subjects were 30 seventh-grade students at Pekanbaru Da'wah Middle School, Indonesia. The research object is the students' test results regarding the concept of two-dimensional space. Data collection involved asking students to complete essay test questions. Findings: The results show that 50% of students had difficulty with the indicator "Applying concepts to solve problems." For the indicator "Using appropriate formulas and completing calculations correctly and accurately," 43.3% of students (13 out of 30) struggled. Regarding the indicator "Relating problems to everyday life," 30% of students (9 out of 30) experienced difficulties. Significance: The next stage is grouping students' abilities according to the indicators. It can be concluded that seventh-grade students at SMPN 1 still experience difficulties with questions on two-dimensional space.

Abstract

Purpose: The objective of this research was to investigate the challenges faced by junior high school students in solving social arithmetic problems. Methodology: This research method is a qualitative method with descriptive research type. This research was carried out at one of the Pekanbaru junior high schools with class VII subjects at Da`wah Pekanbaru Middle School, with a total of 30 students. Results: The data collection technique used in this research is a written test technique in the form of a description consisting of 5 questions. After students complete the questions, the answers will be analyzed and when the researcher finds unique answer results, the researcher will conduct an interview. Conclusions: Based on the research results, it was found that students' difficulties in solving social arithmetic problems were 1) difficulty in understanding the information from the questions, 2) difficulty in understanding the concept correctly. 3) lack of accuracy in the solution process and 4) time constraints which cause students to not be able to complete the questions properly and correctly. Recommendations: It is hoped that the results of this research will allow teachers to guide and overcome the difficulties faced by students so that students can develop their abilities in mathematics, especially social arithmetic material.

Abstract

Purpose: Good and healthy food must be free from harmful and toxic substances, such as microbial contamination, chemicals, and other materials. The term School Children's Snack Food (PJAS) is a food that is found and routinely consumed by children in the school environment, food must meet the requirements of microbial contamination limits based on SNI (Indonesian National Standard) safety testing. The cause of food poisoning that is still a serious problem in various countries including Indonesia is pathogenic bacteria. The purpose of this study is to determine the presence of pathogenic bacteria in school children's snack food samples in Medan City in the Pematangsiantar area. Methodology: The methods used were the Nearest Approximate Count (JPT) of Escherichia coli, Bacillus sp. Number Test, Staphylococcus sp. Number Test, Salmonella Identification, and Total Plate Count (TPC). Findings: The test results on JPT Escherichia coli fried meatballs include SD M (9.9 ± 3.8) MPN/g, SD 5 (8.68 ± 2.73) MPN/g, SD IT (5.08 ± 0.66) MPN/g, and SD 4 (4.26 ± 2.44) MPN/g. The results of JPT Escherichia coli in fried meatballs in SD 1 and SD 2, as well as JPT E. coli ojek in all elementary schools, namely < 3 MPN/g. Significance: Conclusion that the snack food for elementary school children (fried and fried meatballs) in Pematangsiantar did not contain contamination with pathogenic bacteria Escherichia coli, Bacillus sp., Staphylococcus sp., Salmonella, and Total Plate Count (TPC).

Abstract

Purpose: The objective of this study is to examine the use of the Gamma function in the Gamma distribution and its application in analyzing the effect of toxic doses on rats. Methodology: The methodology employed in this study utilizes a non-standard Gamma distribution, with a continuous random variable X that has parameters α and β. The research methods employed in this study include a literature review and a case study. Findings: The results of the calculations indicated that the mean time to death for the rats was 50 weeks, with a standard deviation of 22.36 weeks. Significance: It was also found that the probability of rats surviving for more than 60 days was less than 60%. Based on these findings, the study offers recommendations for the teaching of mathematics, particularly in the context of understanding probability distributions and their applications in biological and toxicological contexts. This study underscores the significance of grasping the Gamma distribution in anticipating and interpreting data in the life sciences, as well as the capacity of mathematical concepts to be operationalized in genuine settings.
