Abstract

General Background: The ability to read the Al-Quran correctly is a fundamental aspect of Islamic education, especially in Islamic boarding schools that integrate classical and modern approaches. Specific Background: Conventional learning methods often fail to address students’ varied abilities, creating a need for alternative strategies that support both accuracy and fluency. Knowledge Gap: Despite the growing number of Quranic learning methods, limited studies have examined the implementation of the Ar-Rahman method within semi-modern Islamic boarding schools. Aim: This study aims to describe and analyze the implementation of the Ar-Rahman method in improving students’ ability to read the Al-Quran. Results: The findings reveal that the method improves students’ mastery of makhraj, tajwid, and fluency through systematic and structured stages supported by teacher guidance. Novelty: The study provides empirical evidence of how the Ar-Rahman method bridges traditional Quranic pedagogy and modern educational settings. Implications: The results highlight the importance of adopting structured methods like Ar-Rahman to enhance Quranic literacy and contribute to the development of integrated Islamic education systems. Highlights : The Ar-Rahman method supports tajwid and makhraj mastery Structured stages improve students’ fluency in Quranic reading Applicable in semi-modern Islamic boarding school settings Keywords: Ar-Rahman Method, Quran Reading Skills, Tajwid, Islamic Boarding School, Pedagogy

Abstract

General background: The rapid growth of educational institutions has led to increasing competition, pushing schools to develop unique competitive strategies to attract students. Specific background: MA Islam Terpadu Darul Fikri (DAFI) in Sidoarjo leverages a 30-juz Quran memorization program to gain a competitive advantage. Knowledge gap: While many institutions use competitive strategies, there is a lack of specific research detailing how a comprehensive Islamic memorization program, integrated with general education, is successfully implemented as a core institutional strategy. Aims: This study investigates how the 30-juz Quran memorization program functions as a competitive advantage for MA DAFI. Results: The findings indicate that MA DAFI effectively integrates general education, religious studies, and skills training under a "one for all" concept. The success of this program is supported by internal factors, such as professional management, and external factors, including government policies and technological changes. Novelty: This research provides a detailed case study demonstrating how an integrated Quran memorization program can be a successful and sustainable competitive strategy for an Islamic school. Implications: The findings offer a model for other Islamic educational institutions seeking to build a unique market position and meet the needs of parents who want formal education combined with religious memorization. Highlights : The 30-juz Quran memorization program is MA DAFI's main competitive advantage. The institution integrates general education, religious studies, and skills training. The school's success is supported by professional management and adaptability to external factors. Keywords: Quran, Program, Al-Qur'an, Competitive Advantage, Islamic Education

Abstract

General background: The current era presents significant moral challenges, highlighting the critical role of character education in preparing students for a valuable life in society. Specific background: This study investigates the "One Day Boarding" program at Muhammadiyah Middle Schools and MTs in Sidoarjo, which aims to form and strengthen students' Islamic character based on the Qur'an and Sunnah. Knowledge gap: While the importance of character education is well-established, there is limited specific research on how a specialized "one day boarding" model is systematically implemented to achieve this goal within an Islamic school context. Aims: This research explores the concept and implementation of the program and its role in building students’ Islamic character. Results: The findings show that the "One Day Boarding" program is implemented through a systematic, integrated approach that includes religious practices and character-building activities. It successfully integrates cognitive, affective, and psychomotor domains. Novelty: This research provides a detailed, qualitative case study of a specific character-building program, offering a practical model for other educational institutions. Implications: The findings suggest that a structured program, supported by curriculum integration and dedicated educators, can effectively address the need for moral and religious character formation. Highlights : Program One Day Boarding is a systematic approach to character formation. The program successfully integrates cognitive, affective, and psychomotor domains. The program's success is supported by a strong curriculum and dedicated teaching staff. Keywords: One Day Boarding, Islamic Character, Muhammadiyah, Character Education, Sidoarjo

Abstract

General Background: The growing competition among higher education institutions requires Islamic universities to develop strong competitive strategies. Specific Background: Private Islamic Religious Higher Education Institutions (PTKIS) in Sidoarjo represent a significant portion of Islamic universities in Indonesia, yet their competitive edge remains underexplored. Knowledge Gap: Previous studies have not sufficiently addressed how PTKIS transform their strengths into marketable advantages in alignment with both Marx’s commodification theory and Porter’s strategic management framework. Aims: This study aims to analyze and reveal the competitive advantages of PTKIS through differentiation, cost leadership, and focus strategies. Results: Findings show PTKIS A emphasizes differentiation, while PTKIS B prioritizes cost-focused strategies. Both institutions commodify their advantages through curriculum innovation, industry-based programs, partnerships, human resource development, technology adoption, marketing, and superior student services. Novelty: The research highlights how PTKIS commodify competitive advantages into tangible educational products and services, offering a unique insight into the intersection of Islamic education and market-oriented strategies. Implications: The study provides a practical reference for higher education institutions and policymakers to strengthen strategic positioning, attract students, and ensure institutional sustainability. Highlights: PTKIS apply distinct strategies: differentiation vs. cost leadership. Competitive advantages commodified into curriculum, partnerships, and services. Offers practical insights for sustaining Islamic higher education competitiveness. Keywords: Competitive Advantages, Commodification, Islamic Universities, Strategic Management, Higher Education
