Tamaddun is a multidisciplinary peer reviewed and open access journal in language, literature, and culture. The aim is to publish conceptual and research articles that explore the application of any language in teaching and the everyday experience of language in education. Its scope is international in that it welcomes articles from academics, researchers, graduate students and policy makers. All articles should be in English. The scope of journal: language teaching; education; curriculum development; humanities; literature; culture; applied linguistics; culture and power in language education; multiculturalism; gender; lculture and identity; literacy, bilingualism and biliteracy education; translaguaging; classic and modern literature; religion; cultural identity; and literary education. Tamaddun is published by Faculty of Literature Universitas Muslim Indonesia in collaboration with Indonesian Applied Linguistics Association.

In this study, the writer explained about the analysis of the topic of Code Mixing occurs, the reasons, and also the frequency of Code Mixing happened among the radio announcers in Maestro Gate FM Radio of Moslem University of Indonesia. The writer uses descriptive qualitative method for analyze the use of Code mixing among the radio announcers; there are some tables and descriptive explanation of each table. When a word or a phrase from another language then Code Mixing occurred. This phenomenon happened to the radio announcers commonly. Especially the announcers of Maestro Gate FM Radio always mix the codes in some particular programs. The writer expected that the use of Code Mixing among the radio announcers that they should understand “why” and “how” Code-mixing happens in their life for communicating. So they can inform and share the main purpose of announcing some programs and give a lot of benefit through the languages they used. Because it can stimulate the environment to develop the other languages to be learned by the listener.

The research aims are to find out the concept of semantics constructed in the “ Massure” poetry and to find out the meaning of “Massure” poetry by Muskamal Bare in city of Bone, South Sulawesi. In this study, the writer used descriptive qualitative method to analyzed data. The writer observed the location, interviewed to the author and some people in Bone, South Sulawesi , and used some tools as documentation which relate to the research in Bone, South Sulawesi.“Massure“ poetry has a lexical meaning and grammatical meaning. Lexical meaning that is the meaning of each word and grammatical meaning that is the meaning of each sentence. So there are differences among lexical and grammatical meaning that contained in “ Massure” poetry by Muskamal Bare in Bone , South Sulawesi.“ Massure “ is the delivery or coveying a story Either it is about the kingdom ,hero, natural disasters and etc. In this poetry talking about customs in the kingdom of Bone. Anyone who violates customs as good as he makes all people angry and been a disaster by many people.

The research aimed to find out the meaning of dancer movements in tradition of Mappadendang in Wajo, South Sulawesi. Mappadendang is one of tradition after harverst as gratitude to God. Mappdendang perform by 4 women and 3 men that pounding the rice. When the dancer pounding the rice by using pestle (alu) and mortar (palungeng). The result of punding the rice sounds “dendang”. That sounds called for Buginese tribe is mappadendang. In this research, the writer used a descriptive qualitative method to found and analyzed data. The writer analyzed and observed the location and interviewed some informants who can and able perform tradition of mappadendang, in Wajo, South Sulawesi, and also used some tools which has related with the research. The meaning of dancer movements in mappadendang has there are many meaning. Inside of dancer movement we can found the spiritual meaning, the meaning of sense, social meaning and entertainment meaning. The main movement in this tradition is expression gratitude to God. It describe for the believe’s society in Wajo always preserve their tradition to got blessed from God. The main purpose of mappadendang for the society has been given many positive impacts such us keep the relationship between society of Wajo, the event to looking for a partner and increase the result of harverst. Those impacts made the society of Wajo always perform this tradition.

Aliran Praha merupakan salah satu aliran linguistik yang muncul pada tahun 1926 atas prakarsa salah seorang tokohnya, yaitu Vilem Matheus (1882-1945). Aliran Praha terdiri atas sekelompok ahli bahasa dari Czechoslovakia dan negara-negara lain yang tergabung dalam “The Linguistic Circle of Prague” (Kelompok Linguistik Praha). Vilem Matheus mencanangkan gagasannya mengenai studi bahasa yang tidak didasarkan pada pendekatan historis-diakronik, melainkan sinkronik. Aliran Praha ini membahas bahasa secara lebih komplet atau tuntas dengan cara sinkronis, tetapi yang paling menonjol bahasannya hanya bidang fonologi.

Bahasa Arab merupakan mata kuliah wajib yang diajarkan di Universitas Muslim Indonesia, Pembelajaran bahasa Arab yang digunakan di UMI ada dua yaitu Nazariyah al Furu’ yang digunakan pada Fakultas Sastra Jurusan bahasa dan Sastra Arab dan Fakultas Agama Islam Jurusan Pendidikan Bahasa Arab, dan Nazariyah al Wihdah ‘ sebagai model pembelajarn penyertaan digunakan pada jurusan selain kedua fakultas tersebut. Realitas penerapan kedua teori tersebut, hasilnya kurang memuaskan, dalam artian hasil proses belajar mengajar seringkali memberikan hasil yang tidak maksimal sebagaimana ouput yang diharapkan. Penelitian ini bertujuan mendeksripsikan efekttifitas model pembelajaran bahasa Arab (Nazariyah al Furu’ dan Nazariyah al Wihdah) di Universitas Muslim Indonesia sebagai mata kuliah yang wajib bagi seluruh mahasiswa UMI tidak hanya pada jurusan bahasa dan Sastra Arab fakultas Sastra dan Jurusan pendidikan Bahasa Arab Fakultas Agama Islam UMI. Selain itu, mengungkap faktor-faktor yang menjadi problematika dalam penerapan model tersebut dan mencari solusi strategis untuk pencapaian kualitas pembelajaran bahasa Arab. Model pembelajaran bahasa Arab ditekankan pada model komunikatif untuk meningkatkan kualitas pembelajaran bahasa Arab dan mengoptimalkan metodologis pembelajaran bahasa Arab yang efektif , maka yang dilakukan pertama adalah sosialisasi dan diskusi. Steelah itu, menyusun strategi dengan melaksanakan workshop, menghadirkan dosen bahasa Arab sebelum memasuki tahun ajaran baru untuk membangun persepsi dalam pembelajaran bahasa Arab. Kemudian menyusun modul pembelajaran bahasa Arab yang berisi materi, sistimatika pembelajaran, alat dan metoda sesuai kebutuhan peserta didik (mahasiswa)

The objectives of the research are to know how the language styles are used in advertisements High-End magazine and to know the kinds of language styles used in advertisements High-End magazine. This method of writing is descriptive by exposing aspects of language style contained in High-End magazine. In this study, the data obtained from High-End magazine, published in January 2014. The samples taken are 20 types of ads. In conclusion, there are eight kinds of language styles used by advertisers in High-End magazine. The language styles are the parable, metaphor, personification, prolepsis or anticipation, oxymoron, alliteration, asyndeton, and assonance.

The aims of this research were to find out about the process of Pekande – Kandea tradition and values moral are in Pekande - Kandea tradition in Buton history. This research used qualitative descriptive that could give an explanation about the process and moral values moral about Pekande – Kandea tradition. The result of this research should that the process of Pekande – Kandea has uniqueness and moral values moral that have a connection with heroism and togetherness. And this tradition one and only that exist also still running every year in Buton Island. The conclusion of this research is Pekande - kandea is a cultural heritage that is a nation that contains a variety of ideas knowledge of customs and behavior of the community in the past. Pekande – Kande tradition happened two times but in a different eras. This tradition also has a relationship with the Tolandona knight’s struggle who wants to return sovereignty Sultanate of Buton.

This study aims (1) to find out about The Process of wedding Ceremony in Tulehu village Central Moluccas (2) to determine the values are contained in The Process of Wedding Ceremony in Tulehu village, Central Moluccas. This study used descriptive qualitative method to analysis the process of wedding ceremony in Tulehu village, central Moluccas. The results of this study include of the process of wedding ceremony in Tulehu village, central Moluccas. There are informal notification, login request, event nahusanamng and sitting gifts, delivery of property / fare and marriage ceremony. In addition, the values contained in the customary marriage of Tulehu village, district. such as moral values, social values and religious values. The results of this study are also expected to religious leaders and community leaders in Tulehu village, Central Maluku district. to teach the customary marriage procedure to the young generation. So that culture is also known by the younger generation. in order to be inherited later. Thus, the values contained in the customary marriage process are not lost.

This study aims to determine the differences in learning outcomes between students which follows the course of study with students who do not join the course in terms of. Lessons English lessons are considered difficult by most students. This is caused by many factors diantanya class hours less, the lack of professionalism of teachers, learning styles unpleasant and so forth. To that end, so that more students master the learning should be given an extra hour, one of them with learning course program. The course is a proactive and systematic efforts in facilitating individuals achieve optimal levels of development, the deve opment of effective behavioral, environmental, and an increase in function or benefit of individuals in their environment. The population in this study is the whole class at SMPN 19 MONCONGLOE. sample includes 20 Siwa took courses and 20 students who did not join the course. In the data collection writers do the following things, namely observation, documentation, and giving the test tothe two groups. The results showed that there were differences in learning outcomes in literacy significant with an average of 90% for students who take courses to learn and 80% for students who do not follow the course to determine whether there are differences in the ability to read the learning outcomes of the two groups, the researchers used data analysis is test test, this is because the data obtained from this research is the normal data differences in learning outcomes of reading skills among students who take courses to learn with students who are not taking a course.
