Abstract

This service focuses on increasing the awareness and understanding of Ma'had Al-Jami’ah UIN K.H. Abdurrahman Wahid Pekalongan students on the importance of choosing halal skincare products as part of their responsibility as Muslim consumers. The main objective of this activity is to provide education on the concept, characteristics, and identification of halal skincare products so that students do not only follow viral cosmetic trends, but also pay attention to aspects of Sharia in the use of personal care products. The implementation method consists of counseling with a participatory approach, starting with a pre-test to measure the initial knowledge of the participants, the delivery of material by resource persons through active discussions, to evaluating understanding at the end of the activity. The results of the activity showed an increase in participants' awareness in distinguishing halal and non-halal products, as well as an increased interest in paying attention to labels and distribution permits when buying skincare. Although the activity ran effectively, the limited presentation tools were a challenge in delivering the material. However, the enthusiasm of the participants and active involvement during the discussion are indicators of the success of this program. In the future, it is hoped that similar activities can be carried out in a sustainable manner with the support of digital media in order to reach a wider audience and shape consumptive behavior that is in line with sharia values.

Abstract

Rapid urbanization in urban areas has led to the conversion of agricultural land into residential areas and infrastructure, which has had a direct impact on the decline in local food availability and increased dependence on supplies from outside the city. Urban farming or city farming has emerged as an innovative and sustainable solution to strengthen food security, especially for low-income communities. This community service activity was carried out in the Kuripan Yosorejo sub-district using a Participatory Action Research (PAR) approach, which involved 30 active participants in training and assistance in cultivating food crops in their yards. The crops cultivated include fast-growing vegetables such as spinach, kale, pak choi, and sweet corn. The results of the activity show that more than 80% of the plants grew well, and around 60% of participants used the harvest for family consumption, while the other 20% sold their produce on a small scale. In addition to economic and nutritional benefits, this program also has social and environmental impacts, such as increased interaction between residents, greening of the home environment, and increased awareness of the importance of healthy food consumption. Urban farming has proven to not only provide solutions to food issues but also strengthen the role of households as producers and agents of change in urban areas. Moving forward, this activity has the potential to be expanded through multi-stakeholder collaboration to create resilient, healthy, and empowered cities.

Abstract

Religious diversity in Indonesia often presents challenges for local belief systems, including Hindu Kaharingan practiced by the Dayak community. Although integrated into the structure of Hinduism, its practices remain distinctive and deeply rooted in cultural values. Modernization and the rise of digital media have created a dilemma between preserving tradition and adapting to contemporary changes, making persuasive communication strategies essential for religious counseling to remain relevant, particularly for younger generations. This community service program employed the Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD) approach at Balai Basarah, Bantai Karau, East Barito Regency. The target groups included traditional leaders, religious counselors, youth, and Balai Basarah administrators. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation, with triangulation applied to ensure validity. Findings reveal that Balai Basarah functions not only as a ritual space but also as a center for learning Kaharingan values. Persuasive communication strategies proved effective when integrating three key approaches: (1) psychodynamic, through the use of emotional narratives rooted in ancestral stories; (2) sociocultural, by reinforcing Dayak norms and cultural symbols; and (3) meaning construction, by simplifying messages supported with basic media such as leaflets and community-based online communication. Youth participation increased, particularly as the counseling was perceived to be more relevant and inclusive. This program demonstrates that tradition does not have to conflict with modernization, but can instead be strengthened through adaptive communication strategies grounded in local wisdom.
