Abstract

Briquettes are solid fuels derived from biomass waste obtained from the compression of the shaped powdered material. This study aims to obtain the physical characteristics and flame characteristics of leaf briquettes of Javanese bamboo (Gigantochloa Apus) and ori bamboo (Bambusa Arundinacea). The method used in this research is varying the pressing load of 5 kg, 10 kg, 15 kg, and the size of the briquette powder (particles) of 20, 40, 60, a cylinder-shaped mold with a diameter of 38 mm and an inner hole diameter of 9 mm. The analysis includes the characteristics of the fire products (area, color and temperature) and the surface morphology of the briquettes. The pressing load affects the characteristics of the resulting flame. The results showed that the type of bamboo, the size of the biomass particles and the pressing load affected the characteristics of the flame.

Abstract

Strength, toughness, machinability and damping capacity are properties of compacted graphite iron that distinguish the properties between flake graphite cast iron and spheroidal cast iron. The formation of compacted graphite can be set to achieve the required specification. The formation of compacted graphite is started from spheroidal to compacted cast iron. The residual magnesium after magnesium treatment and the solidification rate have a significant role in the formation of compacted graphite. The high content of residual magnesium can obstruct the graphite plane to grow during the transformation from spheroidal to compacted shape. In addition, the cooling rate of the casting can be controlled by varying the casting thickness. The compacted graphite in the cast iron are characterized according to shape, size and distribution. The optimum compacted graphite in the cast iron that can be produced has 30 mm of casting thickness with 0.017 % of residual magnesium.

Abstract

The reinforcing composition in hybrid composite can affect the material properties. Kenaf fiber (Hibiscus Cannabinus L.) can be used as a reinforcement for hybrid composites with high advantage. Calcium carbonate serves as a reinforcement for composite materials and was useful for increasing stiffness. The purpose of this study was to analyze the effect of variations in the composition of the addition of kenaf fiber and CaCO3 powder on the flexural strength and water absorption properties of the calcium carbonate reinforced kenaf fibers/polyester hybrid composites (PTJ/SK/CaCO3) made by hand layup method. Hybrid composites were made with various compositions of CaCO3 (0%, 2.5%, 5%, 10%, and 20% by weight). The results showed that the PTJ/SK/CaCO3 (5%wt) hybrid composite had the highest flexural strength with a value of 74.87 MPa. The increase in the amount of CaCO3 powder composition showed a decrease in the water absorption of the PTJ/SK/CaCO3 hybrid composite.

Abstract

LPG is one of the Gas Fuel products that can be used as fuel to replace the use of Oil Fuel. Therefore, an energy conversion tool is needed to utilize LPG as a motorcycle energy source. The purpose of this research is to design and manufacture a gas motor converter kit. This converter kit has three technologies, such as a fuel distribution system using a manual fuel faucet, a solenoid valve that functions to cut off gas flow, and the position of the fuel tube under the seat. The research method using VDI2221 (Verein Deutcher Ingenieure). The research result is the creation of converter kits that are made through the design, turning, milling, welding, and assembling process. The research conclusion is the converter kits can be implemented on 100cc motorcycles, and no leaks or defects were found in the converter kits, so the tool can be used properly on motorcycles.

Abstract

The landing gear of the Airbus 330 uses a green hydraulic system, which is currently still found several leaks which result in a decrease in flight safety because the propulsion force on the landing gear does not function normally so it must use the freefall system when landing. This study analyzes the events that cause leaks of the flexible hose system, swivel valve and pitch trimmer. Flexible hose in AircraftmMaintenance Manual has no limitations when a rapture occurs, while for swivel and pitch trimmers there are still limitations. The hydraulic system leak data was taken in January – December 2020 with a total of 49 cases of leaking hydraulic system cases in the landing gear area, where flexible hose has a very high leakage rate compared to other cases. To identify the causes of hydraulic system leaks, this study used ultrasonic internal leak measurement tools and hydraulic fluid analysis methods.

Abstract

Biogas is gas produced by bacteria when organic matter undergoes a fermentation process under anaerobic conditions, and will produce methane gas which is temporarily stored in a container called a biogas bag. The biogas bag needs to be controlled to ensure the biogas bag remains safe. The control system is in the form of a two-position control because it has the advantage of being cheap and simple, besides that the solenoid valve as an actuator has a non-linear output property. To detect the capacity of the biogas bag, the HCSR-04 proximity sensor is used as feedback on the set point value that is set, which is 50 cm for the maximum set point and 30 cm for the minimum set point. The results obtained by the proximity sensor is able to read the distance with an accuracy of 5.8% and the On-Off control has a response of 0.25 seconds.

Abstract

The characteristic of fluid-flow and heat-transfer on a circular cylinder with particular pattern is frequently used in various branches of modern technology today. The amount of heat transfer when fluid cureent passes through circular cylinder is expressed by Nusselt number parameter, eiter local Nusselt number (NuФ) or average Nusselt-number. Forced convection heat transfer on the circular cylinder with a staggered-type of using Reynolds-number (ReD) varied as the-value of 80, 200, 5000 while the tranverse-pitch (2D, 2D). The fluid inlet temperature entering shell is 350oK and the tube temperature is 300oK, which is modeled whith-Gambit 2.4.6 and simulated using Fluent-6.3.26 whith turbulent model k-w SST 2D steady-flow to obtain data related to the velocity profile and temperature distribution. From the simulation results obtained visualization contour of velocity, temperature and Nusselt number distribution. The smallest Nusselt value is at ReD 80 then ReD 200 and the highest is at ReD 5000.

Abstract

This study analyzes the events that cause leaks of the flexible hose system, swivel valve and pitch trimmer. Flexible hose in Aircraft's Maintenance Manual has no limitations when a rapture occurs, while for swivel and pitch trimmers there are still limitations so that research is more directed towards the causes of leaks in flexible hoses. The hydraulic system leak data was taken in January 2020 – December 2020 with a total of 49 cases of leaking hydraulic system cases in the landing gear area, where flexible hose has a very high leakage rate compared to other cases. To identify the causes of hydraulic system leaks, this study uses ultrasonic internal leak measurement tools and hydraulic fluid analysis methods. Internal leak is used to determine hydraulic flow, while fluid analysis is to determine contamination of hydraulic fluid. In measuring the internal leak, the results are satisfied so that it is known that the flow rate is not the cause of the leak. While in fluid analysis measurements, from 10 registrations there were 5 registrations that obtained particle contamination results. Improvement progress using the PDCA method is expected to reduce the level of risk of leakage in the hydraulic system by making an engineering order (EO).
