Abstract

Collimator is a tube that functions to direct neutrons generated by a nuclear reactor for BNCT (Boron Neutron Capture Therapy Cancer). Appropriate design of the collimator for BNCT application is a tube with an inner diameter of 16 cm, an outer diameter of 19 cm and a length of 13 cm total with 12 pieces with nickel purity above 95%. Manufacturing of the BNCT collimator will be planned using centrifugal casting method and smelting of nickel with electrical arc (EA) furnace. This article reports on the smelting process of nickel, setting the parameters of the electrical arc furnace, and the chemical composition of the nickel. Results of the study show that nickel with purity 98% can be melted perfectly using the EA Furnace with a current of 600-800 A and a pouring temperature of 1600°C. The fluidity of nickel can hold up to 1 minute at a 35°C environment that allows for the centrifugal casting process. The chemical composition of the nickel before being melted is Ni (98.89%), Si (0.79%), S (0.17%), and Fe (0.15%) and after being melted is Ni (97.89%), Si (0.92%), S (0.26%), and Fe (0.90%). The chemical composition of the nickel after smelting in an EA Furnace meets the requirements of BNCT collimator.

Abstract

The propose  of this experiment was to analyze the effect of feedingspeed and cutting depth that effecting cutter temperature. The scatter diagram and variant analysis was used to analyze the data of thisexperiment. The analysis shows that both feeding  speed and cutting depth were influencing cutter temperature. The effect of interaction between feeding  speed  and  cutting  depth  were  influencing  cutter temperature.

Abstract

Tujuan analisis ini, adalah memunculkan ide penggunaan pahat insert bermata potong ganda guna mengurangi keausan pahat pada mesin bubut berdasarkan hasil penelitian sebelumnya. Berdasarkan penelitian-penelitian sebelumnya, baik yang dilakukan oleh penulis maupun peneliti yang lain, penulis menganalisis penggunaan pahat insert bermata potong ganda. Sebagai bahan referensi, penulis menggunakan bahan pustaka yang ada untuk dijadikan acuan. Analisis ini dibatasi pada modifikasi pahat menjadi bermata potong ganda, kekentalan pendingin, pemampatan tebal geram, dan keausan pahat bermata potong ganda bila dibandingkan dengan pahat bermata potong tunggal. Beberapa penelitian yang dilakukan menggunakan bahan benda kerja yang dibubut adalah VCN 150 ø 1,75 inchi dengan panjang penyayatan 200 mm. Karena diameter awal benda kerja tetap maka putaran spindel dibuat konstan sebesar 265 RPM. Untuk kedua jenis pahat menggunakan pendingin dan semua sudut- sudut pahat yang sama. Variabel yang diubah-ubah adalah kedalaman potong. Kedalaman potong untuk pahat bermata potong tunggal dirumuskan diameter awal dikurangi diameter akhir dibagi dua, demikian juga kedalaman potong untuk bermata potong ganda sama dengan pahat bermata potong tunggal. Keausan pahat modifikasi diambil keausan yang terbesar dari masing-masing mata potong untuk dibandingkan dengan pahat bermata potong tunggal. Masing-masing pengamatan dilakukan sebanyak 3 kali yang kemudian diambil rata-ratanya. Membandingkan keausan yang diperoleh pada pembubutan menggunakan pahat bermata potong tunggal dan ganda. Dari beberapa penelitian yang sudah dilakukan terjadi pengurangan keausan pada pahat bermata potong ganda bila dibandingkan dengan pahat bermata potong tunggal. Hasil pembahasan dapat disimpulkan bahwa penggunaan pahat insert bermata potong ganda memang layak digunakan untuk mengurangi keausan pahat. Abstract

The purpose of this study, are (1) to compare the wear of a single cutter with a double cutter with the use of different  cooler  viscosity, (2)  to determine  the effect of cooller  viscosity  to cutter  wear,  and (3) find  a suitable  viscosity,  cooling  to reduce  cutter  wear.  The workpiece  material  is  VCN  150 ø 1.75  inches  with  a length of cut is 200 mm. Variables that are altered depth of cut. The depth of cut is defined  initial minus end diameter  divided  by two. The depth of cut for  a double­ edged pieces  with  a single piece. Cutter  wear  modifications   largest  taken from each  eye piece for  comparison  with  a single cutter.  Research  steps  undertaken were  as follows:   wear  to keep records  of each  viscosity  cooling,  ie 14.5 poise, poise 24.8, 35.6 poise,  and poise  while the depth of 49.2 pieces  0.5; 1; 1.5; and 2 mm. Each observation   performed 3 times and subsequently taken average. Comparing  the  wear  obtained  in cutting  using  single  and  double  cutting.  The results  of this study  are as follows: (1) a reduction  in the cutter  wear  double­ edged pieces  of 18.64% compared  with a single cutter with variable thickness and depth of cut cooling. (2) work without  cooling  wear  very  large,  so  that  liquid cooling is needed in the process  of cutting the workpiece, (3) become less viscous cooling is used, a reduction  in wear and tear on the range.  Wear and tear occurs in the thickness of the smallest 14.5 poise.Keywords: cooling, wear, and the depth of cut

Abstract

This  research   is   aimed   to   determine   the   differences   of   chipcompression ratio and tool wear between a modified double cuttingtool and a standard cutting tool.The workpiece is made of VCN 150 with a dimension of e 1,75 inchand 200 mm long. Because the diameter of the blank is constant, the spindle rotation is set to 265 RPM  Both cutters use the same coolant and have the same  cutting angle.  The properties  to be varied are depth  of  cuts  and feed   Depth  of  cuts  of standard  cutting  tool  is formulated by the blank diameter substituted by the final diameter and than divided by two. The same formulation  goes for  depth of cuts of modified cutting tool. Tool wears and chip compression ratio values chosen  is  the  biggest  value  on  each  cutting  edge.  Steps  of  this research one: Record the tool wear and chip compression ratio for each feed,  which one 0,043; 0,066; 0,0875; and 0,/75  mmlrev while using depth of cuts of 0,5; I; 1,5 and 2 mm. Each treatment is done 5 times or each cutting stroke  and the average  is  taken  as a result. Comparing tool wear and chip compression ratio resulted from  the utilization of modified cutting tool and standard tool.It can be concluded from  the result  of this research  that (I)  using modified cutting tool, there is an improvement of chip compression ratio  equal  to  6,74%   compared  to  the  standard  cutter  (2)  using modified cutting tool there is a reduction tool wear equals to 14,53% compared the standard cutting /001.

Abstract

Sebuah alat untuk proses elektroplating yang mampu mengakomodasi sembilan tahap proses yang telah dikembangkan untuk praktik di SMK perlu diketahui kinerjanya terkait kelayakannya sebagai sarana pendukung praktik. Uji kinerja dilakukan pada baja lunak. Variasi kuat arus adalah 1,8; 2,6; dan 3,6 A. Variasi lama proses pelapisan adalah 4 menit 50 detik dan 9 menit 39 detik. Hasil pengujian menunjukkan bahwa kuat arus 1,8 A dengan lama proses 4 menit 50 detik dan kuat arus 3,6 A dengan lama proses 9 menit 39 detik tidak direkomendasikan untuk pembelajran praktik menggunakan alat yang dikembangkan. Karakteristik lapisan yang dihasilkan adalah mengkilap, halus, dan merata. Efisiensi alat adalah 84,45 % untuk target tebal lapisan 10 µm pada kuat arus 7,5 A/dm2.

Abstract

This research aimed to design a tool that can reduce one type of waste on the production floor, namely excessive transportation in the form of a waste of transportation time. The design of the tool was carried out by inspecting to the details of the failures that occurred in the previous means of transportation. This development research implemented stopwatch time study method and failure mode and effect analysis to find out the value of the loss of transportation time and the types of failures that cause it. The sample of the transportation process time was taken by simple random sampling method from the intensity of the transportation process per month, based on the type of transportation process on the production floor of a textile company. Then the design of the tool was carried out using the morphological matrix method and weighted objectives table to create the design that fits the needs. The results show that the prediction of the amount of excessive transportation in the form of a waste of time can be minimized by 8,11 hours. Moreover, the new design tool also has a safe structure due to its attained maximum equivalent stress was 17.4 MPa which was smaller than the maximum yield stress of the ST37 material.

Abstract

Hydrothermal processing is appraised as one of  advanced technologies for wet solid waste handling. In this study, herb residue was subjected to hydrothermal treatment. Calorific value, yield, and also proximate analysis of obtained hydro-char were investigated. A cylindrical reactor with an internal volume of 2.5 Litres made of stainless steel and a low-tech component was used in the experiment. The reactor was equipped with a stirrer to ensure heat transfer took place through the entire parts of the solid-water mixture. Solid products were dried by a microwave oven before analysis. The results show that the final temperature, holding time, and solid-water ratio have various effects on the hydro-char yield, calorific value, and proximate analysis of the hydrothermal products. The hydro-char yield decreased with the increase in final temperature and holding time. Meanwhile, the highest hydro-char yield was obtained at the solid-water ratio of ¼. The hydro-char calorific value increased with the increase in final temperature, holding time, and solid-water ratio. The rise in final temperature, holding time, and solid-water ratio resulted in  a lower moisture content and volatile matter but higher fixed carbon. Meanwhile, the ash content increased with the solid-to-water ratio.

Abstract

LPG is one of the Gas Fuel products that can be used as fuel to replace the use of Oil Fuel. Therefore, an energy conversion tool is needed to utilize LPG as a motorcycle energy source. The purpose of this research is to design and manufacture a gas motor converter kit. This converter kit has three technologies, such as a fuel distribution system using a manual fuel faucet, a solenoid valve that functions to cut off gas flow, and the position of the fuel tube under the seat. The research method using VDI2221 (Verein Deutcher Ingenieure). The research result is the creation of converter kits that are made through the design, turning, milling, welding, and assembling process. The research conclusion is the converter kits can be implemented on 100cc motorcycles, and no leaks or defects were found in the converter kits, so the tool can be used properly on motorcycles.

Abstract

The natural gas potential in Indonesia can be used to support the renewability of alternative fuels for motorcycles.LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas) is one of the Gas Fuel products that can be used as fuel to replace the use of OilFuel. Therefore, an energy conversion tool is needed to utilize LPG as a motorcycle energy source. The purposeof this research is to design and manufacture a gas motor converter kit. This converter kit has three technologies,such as 1) a fuel distribution system that uses a manual fuel faucet so that the fuel distribution process is better,2) there is a solenoid valve that functions to cut off gas flow when the vehicle stop without removing the regulatoron the fuel tube, and 3) the position of the gas fuel tube is under the motorcycle seat so that it is safer. The researchmethod using VDI2221 (Verein Deutcher Ingenieure). The research result is the creation of converter kits thatare made through the design process, turning process, milling process, welding process, and assembling process.The research conclusion obtained is that the converter kits that have been made can be implemented on 100ccmotorcycles, and no leaks or defects were found in the converter kits, so the tool can be used properly on 100ccmotorcycles.
