Abstract

The need for spices continues to increase in line with the increasing population of the growing industrial world that requires raw materials from nutmeg seeds, the parts that are utilized in nutmeg fruit are mainly the pulp, seed shell, seed coat and fruit flesh. The design of this dryer aims to increase effectiveness and efficiency in the process of drying raw materials in the community. This tool uses an electric motor as the prime mover and uses a panel box as the center of the electrical control device, which contains several components such as a regulator to control the motor speed, an MCB to protect the voltage and other components. The results of testing this tool were quite good, the results of testing the ingredients at a weight of 200-205g in 75 minutes at a temperature of 100°C left a moisture content of 15.62% in nutmeg and 39.28% in candlenut. The cashew test was carried out at a weight of 200-205g in 50 minutes at a temperature of 72.2°C leaving 50.49% moisture content. The cassava test was carried out at a weight of 200-205g in 25-29 minutes at a temperature of 122°C leaving 60.90% moisture content. Testing on corn cobs was carried out at a weight of 200-205g in 25 minutes at a temperature of 119°C with a final weight of 124g. This tool has advantages, namely, it can save drying time, temperature control is easy to do and this tool has been equipped with a current safety device in the event of an electric short circuit. This tool also has drawbacks, namely, it cannot dry raw materials in the form of sheets, slices and powders. The drying tube is not long enough, so a manual continuous cycle is required, for raw materials that require drying time exceeding 25 minutes and requires more electric power.

Abstract

Along with the increasing demand for clam meat, this causes the waste of clam shells to accumulate and not be utilized which can pollute the environment and its surroundings. The purpose of this research is to design and manufacture a shell crusher machine. The working principle of this shell crusher machine is that the crushing process is carried out by inserting the shells into the inlet which is crushed by the blade, then utilizing a gasoline motor as the main drive, where the rotation of the machine is continued by a series of main shafts consisting of blades, shafts, bearings, v-belts and pulleys, as the main components of the design of a shell crusher machine so that it can be processed to be used as animal feed and organic fertilizer which is good for plant health. From the results of the design and manufacture of this shell crusher tool it can crush every 1 kg of shellfish in 1 minute 53 seconds.

Abstract

Rice husk is a waste from rice milling that can be utilized by most people, because rice husk contains nutrients and protein. Therefore, this rice husk has many uses, one of which is used as animal feed. To make it animal feed, it requires processing in a puree way so that it is easily digested by the livestock. Seeing this problem, it is necessary to make a rice husk smoothing machine. The working principle of the rice husk smoothing machine is carried out by inserting the rice husk into the inlet funnel which will be refined by the blade, then utilizing the gasoline motor as the prime mover, where the rotation of the machine is continued by a main shaft circuit consisting of 10 blades, the shaft with a diameter of 19 mm, a bearing size of 2.5 inches, V-belt type A 41, and a pulley diameter of 10 cm, as the main components of the rice husk smoothing machine. The capacity of the rice husk smoothing machine is 2400 kg within 8 hours/day of machine operation. The results of grinding the husks within 2 minutes of testing can grind an average of 0.90 kg of fine husks with a rotation of 4815 rpm. So in a day the rice husk smoothing machine can refine 2400 kg in 8 hours or a day of machine operation.

Abstract

The development of building construction always requires materials, machines (equipment) and work methods to increase the efficiency of work completion. Sand material which is the main building material in the manufacture of a construction structure. The work method for separation is generally carried out by sieving which aims to obtain uniform sand sizes. In this study, a sand sieving machine was designed using the translation method of shaft rotary motion. Procedures in the design of the sand sieving machine are carried out by collecting initial data and field requirements regarding the sand sieving machine, determining the effective mechanism of the sand sieving machine, analyzing the elements of the sand sieving machine, and determining the design of the sand sieving machine. The working system of the machine is designed to use an electric drive motor, a pulley belt transmission system is used to reduce the rotation of the motor, then the eccentric drive shaft is used to rotate the crank which in turn moves the pusher rod so that the sieve moves translationally. The frame design of this sand sieving machine uses square profile steel 40 mm x 40 mm with a thickness of 2 mm. The box profile steel is designed so that it becomes the support of several machine components including the sieves, the dimensions of the frame are 100 cm long, 70 cm high and 70 cm wide. The calculation results obtained that the shear stress that occurs on the shaft is smaller than the allowable stress. The sieving machine design uses a belt transmission and two pulleys to reduce the motor rotation to 509 rpm, this rotation is then converted into translational motion to move the sieve with a speed of 2.34 m/s.

Abstract

The characteristics of the flow passing over the structure affect the stability, aerodynamic design and response of the structure to the flow patterns passing over it. This study numerically examines the effects of using a splitter plate on the velocity pattern, pressure, aerodynamic forces and flow deformation at a Reynolds number of 104. This study used a 2D double-type flow splitter on the downstream side with a k-ε turbulent model using ANSYS FLUENT 18.2 software. Numerical simulation results show that the use of splitter plate has changed the flow pattern passing through the square cylinder which is indicated by the reduction of negative flow zone, pressure recovery, and decrease of drag force. The flow deformation pattern is different from the cylinder without a splitter plate. Numerical data are also shown in the form of flow contours to verify the graphical data shown in the present study. This study also shows that the use of a splitter plate also shows different grid sensitivity from a regular square cylinder, so the grid sensitivity validation-verification test of a cylinder with a splitter plate is not recommended for similar cases.
