Abstract

Libraries in the digital era are experiencing significant transformation in services, especially reference services. As one of the college libraries in Indonesia, the Library of the Indonesian Education University (UPI) faces the challenge of transforming its virtual reference services through the implementation of artificial intelligence (AI). The purpose of this study is to identify the potential developments and challenges faced in transforming virtual reference services through the implementation of AI. The method used in this study is descriptive qualitative. The results of the study show that the readiness of UPI Library human resources in terms of knowledge and skills is already relevant to their educational background, and staff have the motivation to learn further. Readiness of technological infrastructure still requires improvement, particularly in server capacity and internet speed. The readiness of policies and management support, including leadership commitment to technological transformation, is strong; however, specific policies regarding new technologies still need to be formulated. Overall readiness assessment shows excellent potential for adopting AI in virtual reference services.

Abstract

The advancement of technology has brought about ease and efficiency, but along with these benefits, a multitude of complexities and risks have also arisen, Among these complexities, threats to cyber security are of utmost concern. This paper zeros in on phishing as one of the most widespread forms of digital data theft. The aim of the paper is to explore the role of digital literacy in predicting phishing behavioral responses. The research methodologies employed in this study is systematised literature review (SLR) which incorporates the methodology of collecting, analysing and synthesising previous works in the field to develop research findings. This particular review focuses on 18 articles published between the years 2014 and 2024, the review indicates that digital literacy substantially influences individuals’ capacity to prevent phising incidents. The various ramifications of phishing include monetary losses, social and security ramifications, damage to privacy and media information as well as psychological harm to the affected individuals. Phishing cybercrimes has been the primary reason for the digital literacy outreach initiatives to help the public improve their skills and understand the importance of protecting their data. Efforts to strengthen prevention may include integrating digital literacy into education curricula, conducting continuous employee raining, and adopting AI-based detection systems. Strengthening digital literacy in the outreach programs is essential to reducing the risk of phishing cybercrimes.

Abstract

This paper examines how bibliotherapy can support the mental well-being of the University of Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) community. During our time at UNIMAS, we observed the positive relationships and collaborations between the university librarians and UNIMAS counsellors and this made us appreciate the supportive services and teams available at the university. In addition to examining its supportive function, this paper also considers the various roles that bibliotherapy can play within the university context. The paper examines how bibliotherapeutic resources are selected and evaluated from the collection of Perpustakaan Tun Abdul Rahman Ya’kub (PeTARY) and how these resources, grounded in established bibliotherapy principles, can support the mental health of the university community and the emerging role of librarians in the profession. In this paper, we attempt to identify bibliotherapy resources that have the potential to produce positive beneficial outcomes for the UNIMAS community, construct a set of conceptual criteria for bibliotherapeutic texts selection, and investigate the correlation between library collections, user interaction, user participation, and the extent to which these selections have a meaningful impact. This paper also examines the influence of bibliotherapy on collection development and user engagement and identifies its potential of bibliotherapy to promote the professional development of librarians. The paper further evaluates how AI-enabled tools may enhance library services and improve user satisfaction. This paper demonstrates the impact of bibliotherapy on mental well-being to promote a resilient community and demonstrates the benefits of mixedmethods research.

Abstract

Writing plays a crucial role in student success in college, although some individuals experience difficulties in writing coherent academic texts for scientific work. Among the challenges, anxiety and self-efficacy contribute to the writing process. This study aims to determine the effect of writing anxiety and writing self-efficacy on students' academic writing skills in nine faculties at UIN Sunan Ampel Surabaya. This research employed a quantitative approach, with a population of undergraduate students from the 2022-2024 intake. Proportional stratified random sampling was used for sampling. Data were collected using an online questionnaire and a literature review. Data were analyzed using statistical tests with SPSS version 25, including validity, reliability, normality, multicollinearity, heteroscedasticity, and multiple linear regression. The results showed that writing anxiety had a negative and insignificant effect on academic writing skills (p = 0.361 > 0.05). Writing self-efficacy had a positive and significant effect on academic writing ability (0.00 < 0.05). Simultaneously, both independent variables contributed 79.6% to students' academic writing ability. These findings indicate that writing self-efficacy significantly influences academic writing ability, while writing anxiety does not show a significant individual effect.

Abstract

The library website serves as a digital gateway that reflects the institution’s knowledge identity and service quality. This study analyzes the role of user experience in shaping the academic knowledge image of the University of North Sumatra (USU) Library website. Using a qualitative phenomenological research approach, data were collected through semi-structured interviews with six informants, consisting of five active students as primary informants and one library staff member as a supporting informant. Data analysis followed the interactive Miles and Huberman model, emphasizing the interpretation of users’ lived experiences. The results reveal that user experience quality, which includes usability, accessibility, design appeal, information accuracy, and responsiveness, plays an important role in shaping how users perceive the library website as a representation of academic knowledge. Furthermore, the SERVQUAL dimensions—tangibles, reliability, responsiveness, assurance, and empathy—function as an interpretative framework that connect user satisfaction with knowledge dissemination. In conclusion, the USU Library website has largely succeeded in positioning itself as a digital symbol of knowledge; however, interface optimization and more intuitive navigation structures are still needed to enhance the overall user experience.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to identify the factors influencing the utilisation of electronic journals subscribed to by Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (UNY), with the aim of optimising their use and ensuring that institutional investments generate commensurate benefits. This study employed a quantitative research design using a survey method. The population consists of all UNY students, from diploma 4 to doctoral levels. The total number of UNY students is approximately 57,289. The sample was determined using proportionate stratified random sampling, in which respondents were selected randomly from proportionally defined strata of the population. This technique was used because the population was spread across several groups. The sample size was determined using Slovin’s formula, resulting in 156 respondents with a 10% margin of error. Data collection techniques included questionnaires, interviews, literature studies, and direct observation. The information system evaluation framework employed in this study was the Weber Model, which comprises eight evaluation parameters. The eight parameters of the Weber Model consist of: (1) information quality, (2) system quality, (3) individual impact, (4) perceived ease of use, (5) computer proficiency, (6) system usability, (7) system usefulness, and (8) information system satisfaction. The results indicate that all eight proposed factors have a statistically significant effect on the utilisation of the electronic journal information system at UNY.

Abstract

Research on libraries as heterotopian spaces has received growing scholarly attention, highlighting their role not only as repositories of information but also as complex symbolic, social, and experiential spaces. However, several gaps remain regarding how heterotopia is manifested in different types and forms of library spaces. This study aims to identify and analyze the characteristics of libraries as heterotopian spaces through a systematic literature review, focusing on spatial meanings, social functions, and ideological representations within library environments. This study employed a qualitative Systematic Literature Review (SLR) design. The findings show that both public and academic libraries exhibit heterotopian characteristics through their physical and digital spaces, symbolic functions, and sociocultural values. Significant differences were identified in how different library types construct cultural, educational, and ideological narratives through spatial design and user experience. These findings suggest that the heterotopia framework offers a critical lens for understanding the transformative role of libraries in the digital age. Future research is encouraged to explore additional library types and adopt interdisciplinary perspectives.

Abstract

College libraries play a vital role in supporting the educational process, many challenges exist in providing equal access to services for students with disabilities. This study aims to develop a comprehensive strategy to enhance the accessibility of library services, thereby optimizing academic support for students with disabilities and improving national standards for university libraries. The method used was a literature review, focusing on a synthesis analysis of 15 selected articles published between 2017 and 2024. The results indicate that physical, digital, and institutional barriers remain substantial and fall short of international standards, such as those established by the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA). Existing services are often fragmented, inconsistent, and constrained by limited resources, including funding and technology, as well as unstructured policies. In conclusion, the accessibility of university library services for students with disabilities remains low and suboptimal, rendering the available resources difficult to access and utilize effectively, and resulting in a high dependency on assistance from others or volunteers.

Abstract

The "study date" phenomenon has emerged alongside shifting study patterns in the digital era and the rise of collaborative learning practices in public spaces, including libraries. However, scholarly inquiry into this phenomenon from a library and information science perspective remains relatively limited, particularly regarding the link between study dates and information-seeking behavior. This study aims to examine the evolution of academic literature on the study date phenomenon through the lens of information-seeking behavior in library science. A bibliometric analysis was conducted on Scopus-indexed publications from 2016 to 2025 using the search query ("study date" AND "information seeking behavior"). Following the search and screening process, 384 documents were analyzed to map publication trends, dominant keywords, national contributions, and research themes. The findings indicate that while research on study dates in the context of information-seeking behavior is still limited, it reveals strong connections to aspects of information-seeking behavior, social interaction, and user psychological factors. Furthermore, the subject remains underexplored in the field of library and information science, thereby presenting opportunities for future research.

Abstract

Libraries face challenges in attracting visitors, particularly young people, due to the dominance of digital media and the perception that libraries are less attractive public spaces. More creative experiential marketing strategies are needed to maintain libraries' relevance. This study analyzes Night at the Library (NATL), a program developed by the Cikini Library, as a library marketing strategy using the 7P services marketing mix framework and examines its contribution to strengthening the library's image and attractiveness. A qualitative case study approach was employed. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews, non-participant observation, and document analysis involving four purposively selected participants. The data were analyzed thematically using the 7P framework and validated through source triangulation. The findings indicate that NATL enhances the library's image, expands its marketing reach, enriches visitor experiences through diverse literacy and arts activities, and demonstrates adaptability in responding to challenges and opportunities in library management. The creative management of the product, process, people, and physical evidence elements illustrates the application of the 7P services marketing mix in library services. This study provides theoretical contributions to library marketing research and practical contributions to public libraries by offering insights for developing experiential marketing strategies. The findings also suggest that the involvement of volunteers and interns can support program sustainability and serve as a replicable model for other libraries seeking to enhance service innovation and visitor engagement.
