Abstract

Guava leaf has various benefits, one of them is accelerating the healing process of a wound. This study aims to formulate the ethyl acetate fraction into a gel form and test the effectiveness of gel formulation toward open wounds in 16 male mices (Mus musculus) which made excision 1 cm circular full thickness wound on the back of mice parallel with Os. vetebra. The ethyl acetate fraction of guava leaf has been made into concentrations of 5% and 7% with base gel used as negative control and Bioplacenton as positive control. The evaluation towards ethyl acetate fraction gels showed the gels have green-yellow color, guava odor, homogenous, relevant pH to the skin 6,31-6,51, and spread over 2,8-3 cm (stiff gel). The gels were applied onto the wounds twice a day for about 21 days. The observation was conducted every day towards the scab formation day, scab chipped day, and wound healing day. The data were analyzed statistically using one way ANOVA then continued with Tukey test. The average day for scab formation, scab chipped, and wound healing process, successively are in the negative control i.e. 6,50 ; 13,50 ; 20,25, then positive control of  3,75 ; 11,00 ; 17,25, for gel with 5% concentration,  3,75 ; 9,75 ; 16,50, and gel with 7% concentration,  4,50 ; 12,00 ; 18,25. The statistical result showed that the ethyl acetats fraction  could accelerate the scab formation (p0,05) and the open-wound healing (p0,05) in mice than the control negative (p0,05), but not in the scab exfoliation (p0,05). Gel concentration 5% accelerated faster in forming the scab, flaking off the scab, and  healing the wound compared with the gel concentration of 7%.

Abstract

This study aimed to evaluate the different magnetic results of an electromagnetic induction with proton magnetometer measurements on an archaeological site. The electromagnetic induction allows measuring both the apparent magnetic susceptibility in part per thousand (ppt) and the apparent electrical conductivity in millisiemens (mS/m). A proton magnetometer measures the total magnetic intensity in nanotesla (nT), caused by the induced and remanent magnetisations. An archaeological site where historical documents indicated the presence of a 13th century fortress that built by Lamuri Sultanate was selected as a test area. The measurement were conducted by divided the study area into 10 profiles. Some standard data processing have been applied to the measured data. The result of the first survey with electromagnetic induction showed low magnetic anomalies in the buried remains of Lamuri fortress. The similar value are shown as well by low magnetic field intensity in magnetometer measurement.

Abstract

This research showed the application of Proportional, Integral, and Derivative (PID) control system on heat equations that has non-integer ordered solutions on Laplace domain. Zala tuning method and Ziegler-Nichols method; which is ultimate cycle and process reaction method, are used to determine the value of Kp, Ti and Td as constants in PID to maintain the temperature of 1oC on the position of x = 3 m from the heat source with k = 0,042 m2s-1 diffusivity. Based on the results, there were ten systems that were closest in the desired criteria. With regards to overshoot and the time taken to reach the stable position, therefore the ten systems that are produced have not many differences in strengths and weaknesses.

Abstract

The interest in the development of edible and biodegradable films has increased because it is every day more evident that non degradable are doing much damage to the environment. In this research, edible films were based on blends of janeng starch in different proportions, added of palm oil or glycerol, which were used as plasticizers. The objective was to study the effect of two different plasticizers, palm oil and glycerol of edible film from janeng starch–chitosan on the mechanical properties and FTIR spectra. Increasing concentration of glycerol as plasticizer resulted tend to increased tensile strength and elongation at break. The tensile strength and elongation at break values for palm oil is higher than glycerol as plasticizer at the same concentration. FTIR spectra show the process of making edible film from janeng starch–chitosan with palm oil or glycerol as plasticizers are physically mixing in the presence of hydrogen interactions between chains.

Abstract

Nyamplung oil originated from Ujong Pancu, Aceh Besar is one of the vegetable oil sources which is not fully utilized yet. The extraction of nyamplung oil is done using soxhletation with n-hexane solvent; during this process, the oils produced is at the 55.55% levels. The product is in the form of yellowish green liquid with the density of 0.88gr/ml. The nyamplung oil extract has the iodine number of iod 83.53 mg iod/g and hydroxyl number of  64.292 mg KOH/gram which can be utilized as the raw material in making polyurethane membrane. Polyurethane membrane is synthesized by reacting fatty acids from nyamplung seed oil with hexamethylene-1.6-diisocyanate (HDMI). The ration of the oil towards HDMI is variated as, 5:1;5:3;5:5;5:7;5:9 v/w. The membrane has a composition of  5:7 v/w  with 90-100 oC polymerization temperatures and  160oC curring temperature for 8 hours is hard, homogenous and quite elastic with a transparent brown colour.

Abstract

This research aims to synthesize polyurethane membrace from avocado seed oil as a source of hydrixyl (-OH) and hexametylhene -1.6-dissocyanate (HDMI) as a source of isocynate (-NCO). The oil were extracted from avocado seeds at temperature of  60-80oC for 2 hours using n-hexane solvent. The results of FTIR spectrum analysis from avocado seed oil showed that there were -OH clusters absorption on the wavelength number of 3393.819 cm-1, thus this oil can be used to synthesize polyurethane membrane. The isocyanate composition, time and temperature during synthesis process of polyurethane membrane were varied. The polyurethane membrane were moulded in petri dishes, then heated up for 48 hours on the temperature of  70oC, and finally taken out from its mould. The characteristics of the polyurethane membrane from avocado seed oil are brown in colour, homogenous, elastic, solid, transparent and shaped like a membrane. The measurements from FTIR spectrum showed that the -NCO clusters are no longer present. This condition happened because there were no more absorption in the wavelength number of  2270 cm-1 . It can be concluded that the isocyanate has completely reacted during polymerization and the curing process, thus urethane was created in the 1699,965 cm-1 absorption which was the urethane C=O clusters absorption.
