Abstract

. Blood group systems are heritable characteristics controlled by multiple alleles that determine the presence of antigens A, B, or the absence of antigens (O). These systems are crucial in categorizing humans' four main blood groups. ABO blood groups have been identified to correlate with evolution, migration, local adaptations, dietary patterns, and human diseases. Unfortunately, this knowledge is poorly known in Indonesia. Therefore, we initiate this study to record university students' blood groups' diversity through the frequency of ABO alleles, ethnicities, and medical histories through questionnaires. The data analysis involved the responses of 992 students aged 17 to 23 from IPB University. The ABO estimator version 17.3 and Program R ver. 3.6.3 were utilized for data analysis, with the sample size determined using the Slovin formula. Our analysis revealed allele frequencies of 0.19 for IA, 0.20 for IB, and 0.61 for IO. The O blood group exhibited the highest prevalence, while the AB blood group was the rarest. Individuals with the O blood group identified as Javanese and Sundanese were more likely to have histories related to typhoid/typhoid symptoms and dengue fever. Individuals with O and B blood groups from the Sundanese population experienced allergies. In contrast, those with blood group B from the Javanese population were more prone to gastric ulcers and asthma. There are no significant differences between ethnicities for each illness record except asthma. All ABO blood groups for each illness record show significant differences with a weak correlation between the blood groups and type of illness.

Abstract

Fruits are one of the agricultural commodities grown in Indonesia and mango constitutes the third largest. One of the disadvantages in transporting mangoes to long distant markets is the short shelf life when fruits are stored at the room temperature. Some efforts to maintain quality and freshness have been coating the fruits with natural wax/beeswax. This study aimed to determine the effects of beeswax coating containing vegetable oil-based lecithin on physical and weight loss in mango, as well as estimate the shelf life using the Accelerated Shelf-Life Testing (ASLT) method. The coating formulation consisted of beeswax, triethanolamine, stearic acid, vegetable lecithin (soybean: rice bran), and water. Mango coated with beeswax coating with a concentration of vegetable lecithin emulsifier were varied at 0.25, 0.5, 0.75, 1%, and control (without beeswax coating) stored at room temperature 301oK and cooler temperature 286oK. Samples were monitored for five weeks and evaluated periodically for physical change and weight loss. Beeswax coated mango exhibited slower rate of ripening than the control stored in both room and cooler temperatures. The lowest total weight loss of mangoes at both temperatures for 5 weeks with beeswax coating at 0.25% vegetable lecithin emulsifier was 7.25%. The estimation of shelf life using ASLT method and Arrheinus model to mango fruit coated with beeswax coating at 0.25% vegetable lecithin concentration as emulsifier was 36.91 days.

Abstract

Kipas Merah Bireun is one of the superior soybeans which was once widely cultivated in Bireun Regency, Aceh Province, used to be as a centre of origin of Kipas Merah Bireun variety. The weaknesses of the Kipas Merah Bireun variety are relatively small seed size (dry weight 12 g/100 seeds), long harvest period and less resistance to drought stress. Therefore it is necessary to improve the quality of Kipas Merah Bireun variety soybeans in order to get soybeans with better properties, one way is to use mutation techniques. The objectives of the study reported here were to evaluate the genetic variability for seed size of single plant selection for large seed in the mutants of gamma irradiated population. The research successfully selected 41 lines soybean mutant with both of high weight seed per plant and large seed size. Several mutant lines of Kipas Merah Bireun were promising to be investigated and developed further in accordance with attempts to increase productivity in Aceh province. Therefore, further research is needed to see how the growth and production of selected mutant soybeans with large seeds in this study in various locations and planting seasons.

Abstract

The aquifers exploration has been conducted at the western part of Banda Aceh, Indonesia. This research aims to explore the aquifer layer beneath the surface and to obtain the cross-section model of the aquifer. The Vertical Electrical Sounding (VES) method was applied to investigate the aquifer layer. The VES method worked as the current penetrated into the ground using of two electrodes and the potential response due to its current being measured by another two electrodes. Ten grid points of VES has performed in western part of Krueng Aceh of Banda Aceh using the ARES (Automatic Resistivity Meter). The Res1Dinv and curve matching computer software used in VES data processing and analysis. The result shows the resistivity value of aquifer in Banda Aceh city at the range of 1 – 12 Ωm for freshwater, and 0.1 – 0.6 for brackish water layer. The first aquifer (water table) found at a depth of 0.5 to 2 meters beneath the surface. The 2-meters water table mostly located near the coastal zone or downstream zone of Krueng Aceh basin and shallow depth of 0.5 meters on the upstream. More than one aquifer layers were found beneath the surface, they were separated by aquitard layer consisting of silt to clay layers.

Abstract

Hunting-park is a conservation area with the unique attraction of periodically hunting in terms of wildlife management. Lingga Isaq Hunting-Park (LIHP) is one of 13 hunting parks in Indonesia. However, the utilization of LIHP as a hunting park is still facing obstacles; two of which are conflicts of interest among authorities and no data of the animals, especially mammals – the most hunted creatures in the park. Therefore, a study was conducted to identify the mammalian abundance and distribution. This data would be usefull as essential decision-making for hunting-tourist attractions in LIHP. This study used the transect method, with 12 transect strips evenly distributed in those four function areas; three per each. We found 11 species of mammalian that belonging to 8 families. The protected forest had the highest biodiversity value (H’=1.50), while other use areas had the lowest biodiversity value (H’=1.16). Macaca fascicularis had the highest abundance (23 individu), while Sus scrofa was the most evenly distributed mammal in the whole landscape. Protected forests and other utilization areas have the highest habitat similarity, identified as having intense anthropogenic activities. The protected forest also has habitat similarity with hunting-park as both areas are legally protected. Nevertheless, there are only Cervus unicolor, Muntiacus muntjak, and Sus scrofa that are highly recommended for hunting tourism attractions.

Abstract

Rhizobacteria play a positive role as biocontrol agents as well as Plant Growth Promoting Rhizobacteria (PGPR) agents. The research objective was to obtain indigenous rhizobacteria isolates on cocoa plants that have the potential to inhibit the attack of P. palmivora fungal pathogens, and act as PGPR in vitro and in vivo. The results of the study concluded that isolates TRI 7/1, TRI 8/8, GM 7/9 and GM 7/10 had the highest ability to inhibit the growth of pathogen. The lowest disease severity (20%) was obtained in the seedlings treated using isolates TRI 7/1 and TRI 8/8. Rhizobacterial isolates GM 3/6, GM 5/6, GM 7/9 and GM 8/8 produce high amounts of IAA. Rhizobacteria isolates GM 5/6, GM 7/9 and GM 8/8 has very high peroxidase enzyme activity. High production of HCN compounds was obtained in rhizobacteria isolates TRI 3/3, TRI 4/10 and TRI GM 8/11. All rhizobacterial isolates gave an increase in the value of maximum growth potential, germination and vigor values for growth strength compared with the control. The rizobacteria treatments using isolates TRI 7/1, TRI 8/8, GM 7/9 and GM 7/10 were able to increase plant height, stem diameter and number of leaves at 30, 40, 50, 60, and 70 DAP compared to control treatment.

Abstract

The Tripa peat swamp forest is located on the west coast of Aceh province and falls administratively under the two districts of Nagan Raya and Aceh Barat Daya. Tripa peat swamp forest has a high diversity of plants. The previous research discovered that Myrtaceae is one of the dominant families in the forest. This study aimed to predict phylogenetic relationships among trees species within families Myrtaceae that live in the Tripa peat swamp forest using Internal Transcribed Spacer (ITS). The research was conducted at Laboratory of Forest Genetics and Molecular Forestry, Faculty of Forestry, IPB from June 2015 to December 2016. The methods were conducted with an experimental laboratory of molecular identification consisting of DNA extraction, amplification, and sequencing. Data was analyze using BioEdit, Clustal X, Mega 6, and BLAST. The morphology identification reported that there were four trees species within families Myrtaceae, i.e., Syzygium sp 1, Syzygium garciniifolium, Syzygium leptostemon and Tristaniopsis whiteana. Reconstruction of phylogenetic tree using the Neighbor-Joining (NJ) method 1000x showed that the ITS region was successfully to predict phylogenetic relationships within genus Syzygium and Tristaniopsis. Keywords: tripa peat swamp forest, tree species, phylogenetic, myrtaceae, internal transcribed spacer

Abstract

This research focuses on the Generalized Structured Component Analysis (GSCA) method in evaluating service satisfaction at FMIPA Syiah Kuala University (USK).  FMIPA USK is expected to have good service quality to satisfy stakeholders with the services provided.  FMIPA USK needs to know the factors that affect service satisfaction.  An internal survey of the integrity zone is one way to determine the quality and satisfaction of the services provided by FMIPA USK.  However, this survey uses indirect variables, so the structural equation model (SEM) can be used.  The SEM method used in this study is component-based SEM, namely Generalized Structured Component Analysis (GSCA).  GSCA is used because questionnaires do not fulfill existing assumptions in general research, and the GSCA method does not require many assumptions.  This research aims to form a model, determine the relationship between indicators and latent variables, and know the relationship between latent variables and the factors significantly affecting student satisfaction with services at FMIPA USK.  The results of this study show that the indicators used are valid and reliable.  Reliability, assurance, empathy, and tangibles is a factor that affects service satisfaction.  Models formed in this study have a GFI value of 0.962 and SRMR of 0.365, so the model used is suitable.
