Abstract

Peripheral artery disease (PAD) is one of the chronic complications of type 2 diabetes mellitus that can be identified through the Ankle-Brachial Index (ABI). A low ABI score indicates impaired blood flow in the lower extremities. Diabetic foot exercise is a non-pharmacological intervention that can improve peripheral circulation. This study aimed to determine the difference in average ABI before and after the implementation of diabetic foot exercise in type 2 diabetes patients at the Simpang Kawat Public Health Center in Jambi City. This quantitative research used a quasi-experimental one-group pretest-posttest design. A total of 35 respondents were selected through purposive sampling based on specific inclusion and exclusion criteria. The intervention involved diabetic foot exercises performed twice weekly over a period of one week. ABI values were measured using a vascular Doppler device before and after the intervention, and data were analyzed using the paired sample t-test. The results showed a significant increase in mean ABI scores from 0.89 to 0.94 in both lower limbs. Statistical analysis revealed a significant difference (p < 0.001), and the effect size was large (d = 1.39 for the right extremity, d = 1.28 for the left), indicating the strong effectiveness of the intervention. In conclusion, diabetic foot exercise significantly improves peripheral blood circulation in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus and can be recommended as part of routine diabetes self-care management.

Abstract

Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) is a heterogeneous pulmonary condition caused by abnormalities in the airways that result in persistent airflow obstruction. Patients with COPD often complain of shortness of breath (dyspnea), fatigue, limited physical activity, and coughing with or without sputum production. They may also experience exacerbations that require specific prevention and treatment strategies. Management of COPD symptoms can be carried out through both pharmacological and non-pharmacological approaches. One non-pharmacological intervention that can be provided to COPD patients is the pursed-lips breathing (PLB) technique. This scientific paper was designed using a case report approach. The purpose of this case report is to provide an overview of the implementation of pursed lips breathing technique on respiratory frequency and oxygen saturation of patients with COPD. The subject was one patient diagnosed with COPD, admitted to the Pulmonary Inpatient Ward at Raden Mattaher Regional Hospital in Jambi. An oximeter was used as the measuring instrument to assess oxygen saturation, and a digital timer was used to measure respiratory rate over one minute. Data were analyzed descriptively by observing respiratory rate and oxygen saturation from the first day before PLB was performed until the last day of intervention. Changes in respiratory rate and oxygen saturation were observed, where on the first day, the patient’s RR was 25 breaths per minute, which decreased to 23 breaths per minute, and oxygen saturation increased from 95% to 98% after three days of therapy. Pursed-lips breathing (PLB) therapy was proven effective in increasing oxygen saturation and reducing respiratory rate in COPD patients, although the improvements were also influenced by pharmacological management, including bronchodilators and supplemental oxygen. Keywords: Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), Oxygen Saturation, Pursed-Lips Breathing, Respiratory Rate.

Abstract

Environmental pollution due to household waste remains a common problem in society that has not received serious attention. This is caused by the lack of public awareness about a healthy environment. Awareness will emerge through knowledge and a good attitude as well as real action to process waste correctly. This awareness is the responsibility of everyone, including youth organizations. As a platform for the younger generation, youth organizations can actively participate in creating cleanliness in the community through waste processing.. This study aims to describe youth knowledge, attitudes, and practices in managing waste in Mardisari, Kertosari, Temanggung. This study used a quantitative descriptive research design with 55 Mardisari youth as sample from a total population of 125 people by used simple random sampling technique. Data is collected by using questionnaires of knowledge, attitude, and practice about waste management. Data is analyzed by univariate analysis. This study shows that most of the youth are include in early adulthood (58.2%), female gender (58.2%), high school education (69.1%). Meanwhile, the description of youth knowledge was in the poor category (56.4%), their attitudes was negative (61.8%), their practices was in the poor category (58.2%). This result is expected to serve as a reference for the youth and the officials of Mardisari Village to play an active role in environmental protection by managing waste to create a healthy environment.

Abstract

Male breast cancer (MBC) is rare yet under-addressed in oncology nursing, especially regarding body image and masculinity. This qualitative study explored how men with breast cancer in Medan, Indonesia, make sense of altered bodies, masculinity, and care needs. We conducted in-depth interviews with 14 adult MBC patients (post-surgery or on systemic therapy) at a tertiary center and community support settings. Data were analyzed using reflexive thematic analysis. Three themes emerged: (1) “A scar that questions manhood” (appearance concerns, mastectomy symbolism, sexual self-esteem), (2) “Between pink ribbons and blue identities” (stigma, misgendered spaces, delayed help-seeking), and (3) “What nursing care should look like for men” (gender-sensitive education, partner involvement, symptom self-management). Participants described tension between hegemonic masculinity ideals and survivorship, affecting disclosure, adherence, and quality of life. Findings suggest integrating gender-responsive assessment of body image, tailored education (e.g., tamoxifen adverse-effects counseling), and couple-focused supportive care. Results inform practice and policy, addressing a neglected subpopulation in oncology nursing.

Abstract

The age of babies under six months is a golden period that can be realized if during this period the baby gets the appropriate nutritional intake for optimal growth and development. The purpose of this study is to determine the description of the growth of body weight and body length of babies aged 0-6 months who are given breast milk and additional food at the Rawasari Community Health Center, Jambi City. Using a descriptive quantitative method. The sampling technique used Quota Sampling with 15 respondents who were exclusively breastfed and 15 babies who were not exclusively breastfed. The results of the study The description of the weight of babies aged 0-6 months who were exclusively breastfed were in the undernutrition and overnutrition categories of 1 respondent each (7%) and the good nutrition category was 13 respondents (86%), The description of the weight of babies who were non-exclusively breastfed were in the good nutrition category of 10 respondents (67%), the overnutrition category was 4 respondents (26%), the undernutrition category was 1 respondent (7%), The description of the length of babies aged 0-6 months who were given exclusive breastfeeding and non-exclusive breastfeeding at the Rawasari Health Center had the same results, namely the short category of 1 respondent (7%) with the normal category of 14 respondents (93%). It can be concluded that babies who are given additional food at the age of 0-6 months can make babies become overweight or obese. Suggestions The results of this study can be a source of information for mothers so that they can provide nutrition to their children at the right time or age.
