Abstract

Murabahah has become a flagship product in Islamic banking in Indonesia and internationally, as evidenced by data from Bank Indonesia in 2023, which shows murabahah financing reaching IDR 380 trillion or 30.91% of total Islamic banking financing. The popularity of murabahah is supported by its fiqh scheme, which is considered to have low risk, transparency in prices and costs, fairness in payments, and compliance with sharia principles. However, the implementation of murabahah financing faces various challenges, including gaps in legal interpretation, regulatory inconsistencies, and a lack of understanding and education regarding the principles of maqâsid al-syarî’ah. This research uses normative legal methods to evaluate the effectiveness of murabahah implementation within the framework of Law No. 21 of 2008 and the principles of maqâsid al-syarî’ah. Through qualitative analysis of primary and secondary data, this research provides recommendations for improving legal interpretation, enhancing coordination between institutions, and educating the public to improve the quality and compliance with Sharia principles in murabahah financing.

Abstract

Classical Islamic economic thought plays a crucial role in shaping the conceptual foundation of modern Islamic economics, particularly through Ibn Khaldun's work, Al-Muqaddimah. This study aims to analyze Ibn Khaldun's concepts of work and production and examine their relevance in the context of modern Islamic economics. The research method employed is a literature review, examining Ibn Khaldun's primary works, Islamic economics books, and relevant scientific journal articles. The data obtained were analyzed descriptively and qualitatively to systematically and comprehensively understand Ibn Khaldun's views. The results show that Ibn Khaldun views work as the primary source of economic value, generating added value and becoming a crucial factor in creating social prosperity. Furthermore, production is understood as the result of the division of labor and specialization, which encourages increased efficiency and productivity. This concept aligns with the principles of modern Islamic economics, particularly in human resource development, productivity enhancement, and the achievement of equitable and sustainable social welfare.

Abstract

This study examines in depth the system of pagan beliefs in pre-Islamic Arabia and the profound transformation that occurred following the Prophetic mission of Muhammad. Employing a qualitative historical approach grounded in classical Islamic historiography as well as contemporary scholarly works, this research systematically analyzes the theological structure, ritual expressions, and socio-political functions embedded within Arabian paganism. The findings demonstrate that pre-Islamic paganism was not merely a simple polytheistic belief system; rather, it was deeply intertwined with tribal authority, economic networks, and constructions of social identity. Although Allah was acknowledged as the supreme deity, idols operated as intermediaries in religious rituals, particularly those centered around the Ka'bah. The transformation initiated after the advent of prophethood was marked by a revolutionary theological shift through the doctrine of tawhid (monotheism), accompanied by a gradual restructuring of social and cultural norms. Islam dismantled idolatrous practices while retaining and purifying certain existing traditions, thereby establishing a new monotheistic paradigm that fundamentally reshaped Arabian civilization. This study contributes to broader discussions concerning religious transformation and socio-theological change in early Islamic history.

Abstract

In the educational context, teachers are afforded the flexibility to determine instructional models that are best suited to the conditions and characteristics of their students. The careful selection of an appropriate teaching approach is expected to create a conducive and engaging learning environment, thereby enabling students to comprehend, internalize, and master the material being delivered. One of the active learning methods used at SMAN 2 Banjar is the role-playing method. The role-playing method is an active learning method that involves students as active participants in the learning process. This study employs qualitative research methods, utilizing data collection techniques such as observation, interviews, and documentation. The results of the study indicate that the implementation of the Role Playing method in Islamic Education and Character Education at SMAN 2 Banjar, West Java, is divided into three main steps: the introductory phase, which includes the stages of selecting roles, outlining role stages, preparing observers, and selecting actors. The second step is the core activity, which includes the role-playing process, discussion, and evaluation. The final step is the closing activity, which involves sharing experiences and concluding. The outcomes achieved through the Role Playing learning method are: (1) creating a strong learning impression; (2) being enjoyable for students; (3) fostering a spirit of optimism; (4) students actively engaging in the learning process. Meanwhile, the challenges faced by teachers in implementing this learning method include limited learning time, the need for high teacher creativity, difficulty in managing the class, and the process of selecting appropriate lesson materials to be presented through the Role Playing method.

Abstract

This article analyzes the forms and dynamics of the resistance of the Quraisy against the monotheistic movement brought by the Prophet Muhammad during the Meccan period (610–622 CE). The study focuses on the social, economic, political, and religious factors underlying the rejection of the Quraysh elite toward the preaching of tawhid, as well as its implications for the formation of the early Muslim community. This research employs the historical research method, including the stages of heuristics, source criticism, interpretation, and historiography. Primary sources consist of classical sīrah literature and hadith, while secondary sources include modern historiographical works on seventh-century Mecca. The findings indicate that Quraysh resistance was not solely driven by theological differences, but also by perceived threats to the stability of the tribal social structure, the religious authority of the custodians of the Ka‘bah, and the economic interests of Meccan trade. The monotheistic movement was seen as potentially undermining the symbolic and material legitimacy that sustained Quraysh dominance. Despite facing intimidation, boycott, and violence, the Muslim community experienced stronger ideological consolidation. Thus, Quraysh resistance became a significant factor in shaping the theological character and social solidarity of early Islamic civilization in the Meccan phase.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze and explore the meaning of sakīnah using a semantic approach. By utilizing Toshihiko Izutsu’s semantic theory, this study aims to comprehensively reveal the basic and relational meanings of the word sakīnah, as well as the relevance of these meanings in fostering domestic harmony, particularly within contemporary society. This study employs a descriptive-analytical method with a semantic approach. The findings include the following: first, the word sakīnah is more commonly understood to have the basic meaning of mercy. Second, the relational meanings of “sakīnah” are closely associated with the wife, home, faith, prayer, the Prophet, and Paradise. Third, the relevance of sakīnah to harmony, particularly within families in contemporary society, requires actualizing sakīnah through mutual respect, honor, protection, and the provision of peace just as Eve provided peace to Adam as the first human. Therefore, sakīnah cannot be established if it is not grounded in faith; thus, the purpose of a household is not only to achieve sakīnah in this world but also to hope for sakīnah in the more eternal paradise.

Abstract

Islamic history encompasses the events occurring within the Muslim Ummah from the birth of Islam to the present day. In the historiography of Islam, two primary methods of writing are utilized: political and social. This paper examines the characteristics of these two methods. Political historiography of Islam is identified with the ruling dynasties throughout Islamic history, divided into three periods: classical, medieval, and modern. On the other hand, the social history of Islam offers a broader and multidimensional observation, maintaining that Islamic history is not solely defined by political movements. Historiography that focuses exclusively on periods of power tends to overlook many historical events, as aspects of human life beyond politics are not included as subjects of historical study.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the level of religious tolerance and perceptions of religious values, as well as to analyze the relationship between perceptions of religious values and religious tolerance among students of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Sam Ratulangi University. The study employed a quantitative approach using descriptive and correlational methods. Data were collected through questionnaires distributed to 120 active students selected using a simple random sampling technique. The research instrument used a Likert scale and was analyzed using the Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS). Data analysis techniques included descriptive analysis, validity testing, reliability testing, and Pearson Product-Moment correlation analysis. The results showed that students demonstrated a good level of religious tolerance and positive perceptions of religious values in social life. Correlation analysis also revealed a positive relationship between perceptions of religious values and students’ religious tolerance. The more positive the students’ perceptions of religious values, the higher their level of religious tolerance. This study concludes that religious values understood inclusively play an important role in fostering harmonious and mutually respectful social relationships within a multicultural campus environment.

Abstract

This article examines the concept of wasatiyyah in the Qur’an as a theological foundation and pedagogical framework for developing Islamic Religious Education (PAI) that is responsive to the challenges of religious extremism among the youth. Utilizing a qualitative approach based on thematic exegesis (mawdū‘ī tafsir) analysis and a synthesis of recent academic literature (2020–2026), this study reveals that wasatiyyah is not merely a normative discourse or a social diplomacy strategy, but rather an epistemological paradigm structured around four operational pillars: tawassuth (the middle path), tawāzun (balance), i‘tidāl (objective justice), and tasāmuḥ (active tolerance). Theologically, this concept serves as a systemic antidote to selective-textual interpretations and identity dichotomies that act as entry points for radicalization. Pedagogically, wasatiyyah demands a radical transformation in PAI learning: shifting from an indoctrinative-dogmatic model toward a dialogical, critical, and contextual approach aligned with maqāṣid al-sharī‘ah. The formulated implementation strategies include the development of Religious Critical Media Literacy (RCML), the mapping of student vulnerabilities, the strengthening of an inclusive school ecosystem based on a whole-school approach, and a holistic evaluation that measures the internalization of moderation values. An empirical study in elementary schools within Lelea District confirms that integrating moderation values through daily habits, teacher role-modeling, nationalism-religiosity collaboration, and extracurricular activities effectively builds ideological resilience and an inclusive character. This article recommends a measurable reconstruction of the PAI curriculum, the enhancement of teacher competence in critical pedagogy and hermeneutical exegesis, and the synchronization of education policies that position religious moderation as a verifiable outcome. These findings contribute to the decolonization of Islamic educational epistemology and provide an applicable operational framework for practitioners, curriculum developers, and policymakers in the digital era.
