Abstract

Back ground: oxidative stress is one of the problems that can encounter of diabetic patients. Reactive oxygen species formed as a result of oxidative stress. Antioxidants system serves to protection of cells from damage that may be occurred due the action of these species. In this work, we attempt to investigate the biochemical parameters including enzymatic and non- enzymatic antioxidants in patients with type 2 diabetic mellitus. Subjects and Methods: Blood samples were collected from 58 subjects include 29 males and 29 females, in age range of 40-72 years. They were classified into two groups, the first group represents patients group that include 30 patients. Second group consist of 28 healthy persons as a control group. BMI was calculated,   fasting blood glucose, uric acid, urea and creatinine levels were measured by enzymatic methods. Glutathione peroxidase (GP x) and glutathione reductase (GR) levels were measured by enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) method. Trace elements levels (zinc, magnesium and selenium) were estimated by flame atomic absorption spectrophotometer. Results: Results showed a significant increase in levels of FBG, UA, creatinine and significant decrease in levels of GP x, GR, Zn, MN, and Se in patents group related to the control group. There is no significant difference in level of urea between patients and control groups.  Conclusion: Free radical generation increase in diabetic case, that lead to decrease in antioxidants levels of GPx1, GSR, Zinc, Selenium  and Manganese. The levels of GPx1, GSR, Se, Zn, and Mn are the better indicators to evaluate the oxidative stress, and can be used as markers for early detection of diabetes. Keywords: T2DM, glutathione peroxidase, glutathione reductase, zinc, manganese, selenium.

Abstract

Wet chemical harmonics provide the ability to mimic the control of a number of nanoparticle characteristics, including size, shape, and distribution in both water and organic solvents, and the chemistry of custom-made surfaces due to unique applications. There is a rapid need for large volumes around the fixing of connectors or surfactants at some stage of the synthesis in proportion to the properties of nanoparticles. The liquid / anti-liquid solvent pair (usually Ethanol / Toluene and Ethanol / Hexane because of the gold nanoparticles, GNP) remains old in line with both partially modified and purified nanoparticles. We reserve the dispersion of neutrons at a small angle (SANS) according to the verification of the ligand form however response of modified alkanethiol gold order of silver nanoparticles under various condition to combat solvent (CO2 ethanol). Legend lengths and solvent ligand for kanithol riches, however, silver NPs have been determined to decrease along with high anti-solvent concentrations that immediately affect the dispersion of the solution. This research led to an increased appreciation for liquid precipitation procedures due to metallic nanoparticles, yet provides vital consequences for modeling the strength of future interaction. Keywords: Wet synthesis, Biomedical application, Bone Regeneration, UV-ViS.

Abstract

Traumatic brain injury has been recognized as a cause of epilepsy. Epilepsy could impair cognitive function and the cognitive profiles are as heterogenous as the epileptic syndromes themselves. In most idiopathic epilepsies, cognition is only mildly deteriorated or even normal, whereas symptomatic epilepsy disorders are accompanied by focal deficits according to the specific functions of the respective areas. Poor cognitive outcome is generally associated with an early onset and a long duration of the seizure and with poor seizure control. We report a 31-year-old man, with a specific generalized tonic clonic seizure during sleep since one year ago. MRI shows cystic encephalomalacia in left frontal lobe due to head trauma 3 years ago. This patient had executive function disorder which was caused by uncontrolled frontotemporal epilepsy due to traumatic brain injury. We propose AED and cognitive stimulation to be performed routinely to prevent further cognitive deterioration. Keywords: Executive function, Frontotemporal epilepsy, Traumatic brain injury.

Abstract

Thalassemia is a genetic disorder of hemoglobin production which causes chronic anemia. Complete blood count showed lower HbA, MCV, MCH, increase RDW-CV and increase HbA2 (>3,5%) and HbF (>1,5%). Thalassemia major patients need regular and lifelong blood transfusion which started early in life. Thalassemia intermedia, usually with milder symptoms, require blood transfusion at later age, with lower transfusion rate. This study aims to compare hematologic, HbA2 and HbF profiles as well as height, weight, Body Mass Index and spleen size in thalassemia patients grouped based on transfusion start whether in early or later age (before or after 10 yo). Results showed that the hematologic, HbA2 and HbF profiles were not significantly different in both groups. The clinical profiles i.e. Height and weight were below 3rd percentile in both groups; low BMI and more patients underwent splenectomy in group of those with early onset blood transfusion. Keywords: Thalassemia, Transfusion, Hematologic, Height, Weight, BMI.

Abstract

From year to year, the amounts of gangrene patients continue to gradually increase. This is due to lack of consistent routines in checking blood sugar levels which result in blood sugar levels being uncontrolled. In gangrene patients who do not receive treatments, this will lead to amputation and can reduce the patient's quality of living. This study aims to determine the blood sugar levels in patients with diabetes mellitus with gangrene complications in hospitals in Palu City. The method used in the study is cross-sectional with prospective data collection, in which for examination of GDP is implemented using the auto check tool. The results of this study utilized the wilcoxon test to see a decrease in blood glucose levels before and after receiving antidiabetic and insulin therapy. The total research samples consisted of 30 patients within 1 month monitoring duration. From the results of research conducted for 3 months, it showed a significant decrease in fasting patients' blood glucose levels, with an average value before and after using antidiabetic therapy indicated as 285.87 mg / dl and 173.07 mg / dl. It is then concluded that there is a decrease in blood sugar levels in patients who suffer from diabetes mellitus with gangrene complications due to the use of antidiabetic therapy, namely insulin. Keywords: Blood Sugar Levels; Diabetes Mellitus; Gangrene; Insulin.

Abstract

Pangasius is a type of catfish that is endemic to the waters of Mekong basin in south-east Asia, belongs to the family Pangasiidae. It is generally processed to frozen fillets for domestic consumption and also exported to Europe and USA. Freezing and cold storage is an efficient method which preserves taste and nutritional value. Glazing is a process used to reduce undesirable drying or dehydration of fish during frozen or cold storage. Objective of the current research studied the feasibility of edible coating in maintaing and preserving the chemical, microbial and sensory attributes of frozen Pangasius fillet. The frozen Pangagius fillets were glazed by different formulas (N0: control or glazing with clean water; N1: 3% w/w chitosan and glycerol; N2: 3% w/w whey protein concentrate and glycerol; N3: 3% w/w alginate an glycerol; N4: 3% w/w carrageenan). The chemical quality was based on the analyzed results of ammonia (µNH3/g) and pH; biogenic amines such as putrescine (mg/kg), cadaverine (mg/kg), histamine (mg/kg), spermine (mg/kg), spermidine (mg/kg); lipid oxidation or malondialdehyde value (mg/kg); microorganism such as Total plate count (cfu/g), Enterobacteriaceae (cfu/g), Coliform (cfu/g), E. coli (cfu/g), Staphylococus (cfu/g), Listeria (cfu/g), Salmonella (cfu/g), Vibrio (cfu/g); sensory score. All treated frozen Pangagius fillets were tested after 12 months of storage. Results revealed that the incorporation of 3% w/w chitosan and glycerol in ice‐glazing could inhibit microbial spoilage and lipid oxidation and therefore maintain the freshness of Pangasius fillet during frozen storage. Under the optimal conditions, the shelf‐life of Pangasius fillet could be extended up to 12 months at −18 °C. The study indicated that the combination treatment with edible coating could be commercially utilized to maintain the freshness and prolong the shelf‐life of frozen Pangasius fillet. Keywords: Frozen, Pangasius fillet, Glazing, chitosan, Glycerol, Whey protein concentrate, Alginate, carrageenan.
