Abstract

Generative AI tools like ChatGPT are reshaping education, yet their use in rural and religious contexts remains limited. Guided by the TPACK and Diffusion of Innovation frameworks, this quantitative study examines AI adoption and its pedagogical impact among 440 Islamic secondary school teachers in Kot Addu, Southern Pakistan. Using questionnaire data analyzed with SPSS, the study finds moderate AI adoption that supports instructional innovation and teacher–student engagement, with male teachers showing slightly higher confidence and usage than females. Despite positive effects, challenges include self-reported data bias, limited infrastructure, and cultural concerns. The findings underscore the need for targeted teacher training, culturally sensitive policies, and institutional support, while future research should explore qualitative insights and long-term educational impacts.

Abstract

This research explores the ongoing significance of Islamic law (fiqh) in tackling modern ethical challenges, including those arising from digital advancements, biotechnology, environmental changes, and shifting socio-economic frameworks. The study examine how fiqh adjusts to matters like digital financial systems, AI in medical decision-making, and bioethical challenges by integrating maqāṣid al-sharī‘ah and modern ijtihad. Utilizing a Systematic Literature Review (SLR), the research integrates fiqh with modern academic work to assess changes in methodology within Islamic law. The review highlights a notable transition from solely textual reasoning to a Maqāṣid al-Sharī‘ah that emphasizes public interest, justice, and contextual significance. Research indicates that collaborative and interdisciplinary approaches to ijtihad have become crucial for tackling complex modern ethical challenges, especially in areas that demand scientific and technological knowledge. Fiqh institutions are increasingly utilizing collective reasoning to guarantee trustworthy, evidence-based legal results. The research also underscores the increasing significance of fiqh in the ethics of the digital economy, bioethical oversight, and environmental management, where fiqh align with international standards. Despite this advancement, a significant research gap continues to exist in the practical use of Maqāṣid al-Sharī‘ah in policy, technology regulation, and actual legal decisions. In summary, the research finds that fiqh remains significantly relevant today when examined through vibrant, maqāṣid-oriented, and interdisciplinary approaches. Enhancing empirical and practical research is essential to guarantee that Islamic law remains a responsive, ethical, and solution-driven framework for addressing modern ethical challenges.

Abstract

Functional teacher education equips educators with the skills, competencies, and professional values required to address the educational and societal demands of the 21st century. Despite Islam’s emphasis on knowledge acquisition and character formation, many Islamic Studies teachers in Nigerian schools and teacher-training institutions remain insufficiently prepared for contemporary challenges. Key constraints include outdated curricula, shortages of professionally trained teachers, limited integration of digital pedagogical tools, and weak in-service professional development systems. These shortcomings restrict the potential of Islamic Studies to contribute meaningfully to national development, social cohesion, and the cultivation of critical thinking skills essential for modern learners. In the context of rapid social change, technological advancement, and rising youth unemployment, the gap between current instructional practices and societal needs has widened, highlighting the urgency for reform in Islamic Studies teacher education. This study examines the role of Islamic Studies teachers in promoting students’ holistic development moral, spiritual, cognitive, and socio-economic through the integration of functional teacher education with Islamic pedagogical principles. Using a descriptive research design, data were collected from 270 respondents in Kwara State, Nigeria, and analyzed thematically. The findings suggest that strengthening Islamic Studies teacher education through functional approaches and continuous pedagogical support can enhance the subject’s relevance and contribution to moral rejuvenation, socio-economic resilience, and sustainable national development.

Abstract

"Beyond The Binary: Gender and Legal Personhood in Islamic Law" by Saadia Yacoob is a groundbreaking work that challenges the traditional binary understanding of gender in Islamic law and explores the legal personhood of individuals who fall outside this binary. The book argues that Islamic law, when interpreted through a lens of justice and equity, can accommodate diverse gender identities and experiences. Yacoob (2024) meticulously examines the historical and contemporary interpretations of gender in Islamic law, highlighting the limitations of the binary framework and its impact on the lives of individuals who do not conform to traditional gender norms. She then presents a compelling case for a more inclusive and nuanced understanding of gender and legal personhood within Islamic law, drawing on Islamic legal principles, feminist scholarship, and contemporary legal developments. This book explores how Islamic jurisprudence constructs gender identity and legal status beyond a simple male/female binary, showing that Islamic law recognizes a variety of gendered legal subjects. Yacoob challenges the idea that gender is the primary organizing principle in Islamic law, showing that other social identities such as age and slavery also play a critical role in defining legal personhood. Through her analysis, Yacoob offers a more nuanced understanding of the Islamic legal tradition, suggesting that the construction of legal personality is relational and situational, shaped by a complex web of social relations. The book advocates an approach that relegates gender as a category of analysis in the study of Islamic law to fully understand the complex and dynamic web of relationships through which power is exercised in legal discourse. As such, “Beyond the Binary” provides new insights into how Islamic law views and regulates gender identity, challenging readers to rethink their assumptions about gender and law in the Islamic context.

The Status of Women in Polygamous Marriages and the Need for Legal Protection The need for Legal protection by Noorjehan & Soman (2022) for women in polygamous marriages is a book with the genre of social knowledge or activism and social law. the book explains that Muslim women are deprived of legal protection in family law matters in India. The need to demand comprehensive reforms in family law in accordance with the Quranic injunctions on gender justice and the constitutional principles of fairness, equality and non-discrimination.
